Objective To investigate telomerase activity in patients with psoriasis. Methods The telomerase activity in the skin lesions of patients was detected by TRAP (Telomeric repeat amplification protocol)——ELISA which is based upon PCR amplification of the initial telomerase product and detected by ELISA. Results Telomerase activity was detected in the lesions of psoriatic patients, but the level of it was lower in comparison with that in tissues of malignant tumor and K562 cell line. Conclusion These findings support that the increase of telomerase activity may be linked to the pathogenesis of psoriasis and that the telomerase activity can be detected not only in malignant tumors but also in nonmalignant skin diseases.

Objective To describe the effect of loop diuretic on renal function in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods Data were of 211 impatients diagnosed as HF collected in a nested case-control study. The association of application of loop diuretic with renal function was assessed to identify whether loop diuretic was an independent risk factor of worsening renal function(WRF).To identify WRF,we defined serum creatinine level as a rise ≥26.5 μmol/L compared to the level at admission. Therefore, the subjects were divided into case group(serum creatinine level ≥ 26.5 μmol/L,n =66)and control group(serum creatinine level < 26.5μmol/L,n =145).Results The doses of loop diuretic were higher in the case group([385.17 ± 49.37]mg)than the control group([244.50 ± 34.82]ag)(P < 0.05),but it was not independent risk factor of WRF (P>0.05).Creatinine level and NYHA class at admission were independent risk factor for WRF,with OR of 2.248(95 % CI:1.088-4.647)and 2.485(95 % CI:1.385-4.459)respectively(Ps < 0.05).Conclusion The doses ofloop diuretic were not independent risk factor of WRF,creatinine level and severity of HF at admission are the most important predictors of the occurrence of WRF.

Objective To measure the expressions of Toll like receptors (TLRs) in lesions of condyloma acuminatum (CA). Methods Tissue samples were resected from lesions of 25 patients with CA and normal skin of 16 human controls. Frozen sections were prepared and the expressions of TLRs 1 - 10 were measured by immunohistochemical staining. Results In normal skin samples, there was a strong expression of TLR 6 and 9, medium expression of TLR 1, 3, 10 and weak expression of TLR 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 in the stratum corneum and stratum granulosum, but a weak or negative expression of TLRs in the stratum spinosum and stratum basale. In contrast, a strong expression of TLR 1, 3, 6, 9, medium expression of TLR 4, 8, 10 and weak expression of TLR 2, 5, 7 were detected in keratinocytes of almost all epidermal layers except for stratum basale in CA lesions. Conclusions The expressions of TLRs, especially TLR 1, 3, 6, 9, are markedly enhanced in proliferated keratinocytes in CA lesions compared with normal skin, which is likely to be associated with anti-viral immunity triggered by HPV infection.

Objective To investigate the adverse effects of nano-titanium dioxide (TiO2 )on kidney tissues in healthy rats and rats with oxidative stress (OS).Methods Thirty-six healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into control group, alloxan-treated group, nano-TiO2 treated (NM) group, and alloxan and nano-TiO2 dual treatment (OS-NM)group.Nano-TiO2 of three concentrations (0.5,5 and 50 mg/kg body weight)was injected intraperitoneally. The level of OS biochemical factors and blood urea nitrogen (BUN)and pathological changes of kidney were determined. Results Compared with those in NM and OS groups, the levels of O2 -· and superoxide dismutase (SOD)in OS-NM group were significantly increased after exposure to nano-TiO2 of 5 mg/kg body weight (P <0.05).Nano-TiO2 of 50 mg/kg body weight led to significant changes of O2 -·,SOD,and glutathione (GSH) levels in OS-NM group in comparison with OS and NM groups (P <0.01).The levels of O2 -· and GSH between OS group and NM group changed significantly (P < 0.05 ).Compared with healthy rats,OS rats showed significant increased BUN level (P <0.01),cell number and edema of renal tubular epithelial cells after nano-TiO2 exposure.A synergic effect between OS condition and nano-TiO2 level was shown on the increased level of O2 -·.Conclusion Nano-TiO2 induced more adverse effects on the kidney in OS rats, suggesting a synergistic effect between nano-TiO2 and OS.This result provides experimental evidence for patients’safe use of nano-TiO2 .
