Objective To investigate the relationship between abnormal bone mineral density (BMD) and subclinical thyroid dysfunction. Methods Thyroid function, biochemical indicators of bone metabolism and BMD were reviewed retrospectively in the subjects who received health checkups from July 1, 2009 to January 31, 2017 in the Health Check-up Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital. People who had thyroid dysfunction, recognized risk factors for osteoporosis, and medication history were excluded. A cross-sectional analysis of thyroid status and biochemical indicators of bone metabolism was performed by the standard methods. BMD at the lumbar spine and femoral neck was measured using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results A total of 6884 subjects (3726 women and 3158 men) were enrolled in the study, with an average age of (50.74 ± 10.41) years. They were divided into three groups:subclinical hyperthyroid, subclinical hypothyroid, and euthyroidism. The alkaline phosphatase in subclinical hyperthyroid group was higher than that in the euthyroidism group[ (67.95±20.64)U/L vs. (63.88±18.99)U/L]. Calcium and phosphorus in blood were higher in both subclinical hyperthyroid and subclinical hypothyroid groups. The rate of abnormal BMD in male euthyroidism, subclinical hyperthyroid and subclinical hypothyroid groups were 36.10%(1049/2906), 29.27%(12/41) and 27.01%(57/211), respectively. The rate of abnormal BMD showed no difference between subclinical hyperthyroid group and euthyroidism group (P>0.05). The rate of abnormal BMD was lower in subclinical hypothyroid group than in euthyroidism group (χ2=7.0901, P<0.01), especially in the males aged 40-49 years (χ2=10.4618, P<0.01). The rate of abnormal BMD in female euthyroidism, subclinical hyperthyroid and subclinical hypothyroid groups was 38.81%(1286/3314), 45.83% (33/72) and 40.88% (139/340), respectively. The rate of abnormal BMD showed no difference among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion There is no significant difference in the rate of abnormal BMD between subclinical thyroid dysfunction group and euthyroidism group, possibly because abnormal serum biochemical indicators preceded the presence of low BMD. More sensitive methods used to determine the status of bone metabolism await to be developed.

Objective To explore the effect of shifting the little finger abductor muscle and cutting open the metatarsophalangeal joint dorsal articular capsule to improve the appearance and function of reconstructed thumb. Methods From August 2007 to May 2012,twelve cases of Ⅳ°or Ⅴ°defect of thumb were repaired by free transplantation of the second toes with metatarsophalangeal joint.During operation, using the abductor muscle of little finger to reconstruct palmar opposition function, cutting open the joint capsule of metatarsophalangeal joint, adjusting the tension of the joint by the little finger abductor muscle and toe short extensor muscles, which were used to improve the appearance and function of reconstructed thumb. Results Twelve reconstructed thumbs all survived.Followed up from 6 to 24 months, the appearance and function were improved obviously.According to the evaluation trial standards, nine cases were optimal and 3 cases were good. Conclusion The shift of the little finger abductor muscle could reconstruct palmar opposition function, combined with metatarsophalangeal joint dorsal articular capsule incision and adjusting joint tension, could improve the appearance and function of reconstructed thumb. The effect of operation was satisfied.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2004;21(4):674-676
Ligament injury always has an unsatisfied outcome because of the poor blood supply and scar tissue formation. This may result in severe joint dysfunction. Tissue engineering, as a most prospective field, may provide an effective approach for the treatment of ligament injury. This paper has reviewed some recently published articles focusing on the sources of seed cells in ligament tissue engineering, application of growth factors, screening of scaffold materials with specific mechanical and biodegradable properties, and interaction between cells and scaffold materials. At present, what should be extensively studied are scaffolds with specific mechanical and biodegradable properties, and bioreactors providing three-dimensional culture microenvironment mimic in vivo.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(2):336-340
Low shear stress is a component of the tumor microenvironment in vivo and plays a key role in regulating cancer cell migration and invasion. The integrin, as a mechano-sensors mediating and integrating mechanical and chemical signals, induce the adhesion between cells and extracellular matrix (ECM). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of low shear stress (1.4 dyn/cm2)on the migration of HepG2 cells and the expression of integrin. Scratch wound migration assay was performed to examine the effect of low shear stress on the migration of HepG2 cells at 0 h, 1 h, 2 h and 4 h, respectively. F-actin staining was used to detect the expression of F-actin in HepG2 cells treated with low shear stress at 2 h and 4 h. Western blot analysis was carried out to determine the effect of low shear stress on the expression of integrin at different durations. The results showed that the migrated distance of HepG2 cells and the expression of F-actin increased significantly compared with the controls. The integrin alpha subunits showed a different time-dependent expression, suggesting that various subunits of integrin exhibit different effects in low shear stress regulating cancer cells migration.

Objective To assess and review the methods of the reversed posterior interosseous artery flap for treating the contracture of the first web space. Methods Forty-two cases of the first web space severe contracture were cured by the reversed posterior interosseous artery flap rotate at 1.5-2.0 cm proximal ulnar styloid process after release the adhesion. After operation curative effects were evaluated by measuring the first web space with Gu's method. Results The flap of 42 cases obtain success, however 3 cases was partly necrosis of epidermis. Follow-up examination was obtained in 31 cases for average 18 months after operative. The width of the first web space was augmented an average of 37.9 mm. Rehabilitation training after operation can enhance the effect of the therapy with 8.6 mm more expanded. Conclusion The flap is an ideal choice for treatment on the defect of the contracture of the first web space and rehabilitation training after operation is important.

Objective:To study the effect of Shenqi Fuzheng injection combined with interferon-α (IFN-α) on the expression of STAT1 gene in hepatocellular carcinoma cells, and to elucidate its mechanism of IFN-α synergistic effect.Methords:The effect of IFN-α injection alone or combined with Shenqi Fuzheng injection on the proliferation of MHCC97-L cells was detected by MTT assay.IFN-α was detected by Real-time PCR and Western-blot respectively. The expression of STAT1 mRNA and protein in the experimental group, the negative control group (NaCl) and the blank control group were determined, and the effect of Shenqi Fuzheng injection on the transcription and expression of STAT1 was determined. The expression of STAT1 in lentiviral vector MTT assay was used to detect the effect of IFN-α alone or in combination with Shenqi Fuzheng injection on the STAT1 gene silencing cells. The expression of STAT1 was detected by RT-PCR and Western-Blot in MHCC97L cells.Strain,on cell proliferation. Results:Compared with IFN-α alone,Shenqi Fuzheng injection combined with IFN-α enhanced the inhibitory effect of IFN-α on MHCC97-L (P<0.01) and up-regulated the expression of STAT1mRNA and protein (P<0.05).Successfully constructed the STAT1 gene silent in the MHCC97-L cell line. There was no significant difference in the inhibition rate of MHCC97-L between Shenqi Fuzheng injection and IFN-α (P>0.05).Conclusion Shenqi Fuzheng Injection can up-regulate the expression of STAT1 in human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line MHCC97-L,so as to increase the effect of IFN-α.
