Objective To observe the oxygenation and heartbeat duration effect of peritoneal ventilation with oxygen on a rabbit asphyxia model so as to provide a basis for treatment of severe respiratory damage with peritoneal oxygenation technique. Methods Twenty-four New Zealand rabbits were randomized into control group, air group and oxygen group, eight rabbits per group.Trachea dissection and intubation, carotid artery and vein catheter and placement of peritoneal cavity in and out of air duct were performed. An asphyxia model was built by clamping the tracheal catheter and was administered with peritoneal ventilation (with air in air group and oxygen in oxygen group).Indices including blood gas and mean arterial pressure (MAP) before and at an interval of one minute after asphyxia and heartbeat duration were observed, and their differences between groups were compared. Results The arterial partial pressure of oxygen ( PaO2 ) in the oxygen group was higher than that in the control group within four minutes after asphyxia. The partial pressure of carbon dioxide ( PaCO2 ) [ (77.6 ± 11.2) mm Hg] in the oxygen group was significantly lower than (89.1 ± 10.1 )mm Hg in the control group at four minutes after asphyxia. The heartbeat duration [ (6.48 ± 0.89 ) minutes ] in the oxygen group was longer than (5.03 ± 0.51 ) minutes in the control group.MAP had no obvious changes in the three groups. Conclusion The transperitoneal ventilation with gaseous oxygen can alleviate the decrease of PaO2,increase of PaCO2 and prolong the duration of heartbeat in an asphyxia rabbit model.

To enhance the production of ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-PL) by improving dissolved oxygen level of the fermentation system, different oxygen-vectors were added to broth and n-dodecane was screened as the best oxygen-vector. The best amount of n-dodecane was 0.5% (V/V) and the best time was at start of the fermentation. In a fed-batch fermentation in a 5 L bioreactor, ε-PL concentration reached a maximum of (30.8 ± 0.46) g/L and the dry cell weight obtained was (33.8 ± 0.29) g/L, increasing by 31.6% and 20.7% compared with the control group, respectively. This improvement can be related to 0.5% n-dodecane could maintain dissolved oxygen concentration > 32% of air concentration compared with 23.8% in ε-PL production phase, and the production of a main by-product, poly-L-diaminopropionic acid, fell by 31%. These results indicated that the dissolved oxygen level in the broth was improved by adding n-dodecane, which can inhibit the by-product production and improve the biosynthesis of ε-PL.

Objective To clarify the applied anatomy of Chinese female breasts,to improve the breast reduction mammoplasty, and to compare the quality of life in women with symptomatic macromastia before and after reduction mammoplasty with the modified round block technique. Methods The blood supply and innervation of the nipple-areolar complex were dissected in 6 Chinese adult females (12 breast specimens).Special attention was paid to the Würinger horizontal septum and the medial and lateral ligaments. The specific beneficial effects of reduction mammoplasty were evaluated with the modified round block technique, and a general questionnaire the Short Form-36 Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36) was used in this study, which has good reliability and validity. The scores of the patients before and after the surgery were collected respectively. Results In 12 breast specimens, there existed Würinger horizontal septum and the medial and lateral ligaments. The blood supply and nerve innervation of nipple-areolar complex went along Würinger horizontal septum. In all the patients enrolled,SF-36 showed significant higher quality of life after the operation with regard to 7 of 8 investigated domains.Role of emotion increased most significantly.Increased self-esteem and increased personal and public self-consciousness after surgery were observed. Conclusions The incidence of postoperative complications is reduced after using the modified round block technique.Patients have a higher degree of satisfaction overall. These data are further evidence that breast hypertrophy is not solely an esthetic problem. The reduction mammoplasty with the modified round block technique is an ideal technique.

Objective :
To explore the mechanism by which total flavones of rhododendron ( TFR) protect against cerebral ischemia⁃reperfusion ( I/R) injury by inhibiting the TNF⁃α/caspase⁃8/caspase⁃3 signaling pathway .
Methods :
The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) method was used to establish the rat I/R model . Rats were randomly divided into Sham surgery , MCAO , and post⁃I/R intervention with TFR 200 mg/kg (TFR 200 mg/ kg) groups . After establishing the MCAO rat model , rats in the TFR 200 mg/kg group were administered TFR (200 mg/kg) solution for 14 consecutive days following I/R injury surgery . Hematoxylin⁃Eosin (HE) staining was used to observe neurological function scoring , cerebral blood flow assessment , histological examination of brain tissue , assay kits were used to detect lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and neuron⁃specific enolase (NSE) activities in rat serum . ELISA assay kits was used to measure interleukin⁃1 (IL⁃1) and interleukin⁃6 (IL⁃6) levels , and Western blot and immunohistochemistry were conducted to detect the expression levels of cleaved caspase⁃3 , caspase⁃8 , and TNF⁃α proteins in rat brain tissue 14 days post⁃surgery .
Results :
After cerebral ischemia⁃reperfusion treatment , MCAO resulted in abnormal neurological function in rats , significantly increased neurological function scoring index , obvious changes in cerebral tissue histomorphology and cerebral blood flow , significant upregulation of cleaved caspase⁃3 , caspase⁃8 , and TNF⁃α protein expression levels in brain tissue , and significant elevation of LDH , NSE , IL⁃1 , and IL⁃6 levels in serum . Rats in the TFR 200 mg/kg group showed significantly reduced neurological function scoring , significant improvement in cerebral tissue pathological damage , decreased expression levels of cleaved caspase⁃3 , caspase⁃8 , and TNF⁃α proteins in brain tissue , as well as decreased levels of LDH ,NSE , IL⁃1 , and IL⁃6 in serum .
Conclusion
TFR may alleviate cerebral ischemic hypoxic injury by inhibiting the TNF⁃α/caspase⁃8/caspase⁃3 signaling pathway .

Objective To predict and assess biomechanical responses and injury mechanisms of the thorax and abdomen for small-sized females in vehicle collisions. Methods The accurate geometric model of the thorax and abdomen was constructed based on CT images of Chinese 5th percentile female volunteers. A thoracic-abdominal finite element model of Chinese 5th percentile female with detailed anatomical structure was developed by using the corresponding software. The model was validated by reconstructing three groups of cadaver experiments (namely, test of blunt anteroposterior impact on the thorax, test of bar anteroposterior impact on the abdomen, test of blunt lateral impact on the chest and abdomen). Results The force-deformation curves and injury biomechanical responses of the organs from the simulations were consistent with the cadaver experiment results, which validated effectiveness of the model. Conclusions The model can be used for studying injury mechanisms of the thorax and abdomen for small-sized female, as well as developing small-sized occupant restraint systems and analyzing the forensic cases, which lays foundation for developing the whole body finite element model of Chinese 5th percentile female.
