Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2010;35(4):365-369
OBJECTIVE:
To examine the influence of exogenous fat (lard) on the bone mineral density (BMD) of lumbar spine measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometer (DXA) Hologic QDR 4500A in different sites in healthy women.
METHODS:
Lard packets (5 cm or 10 cm thick) were prepared. The lumbar spine (LS) DXA scans were performed on 37 women(Group A), who were repeated with lard packets (5 cm or 10 cm thick) placed over the abdomen, and the hip DXA scans were performed on 18 women(Group B), who were repeated with lard packets (5 cm or 10 cm thick) placed over the left thigh. Whole body DXA scans were performed on 8 women(Group C), who were repeated with 5 cm thick lard packets over the abdomen. The pair t-test was used to compare the value of BMD with and without lard.
RESULTS:
After lard was placed over abdomen, the bone area (BA), bone mineral content (BMC), and BMD of the LS decreased significantly (P<0.001);at the hip, BA had no significant change, but the BMC and BMD of the neck, trochanter, and inter trochanter increased significantly (P<0.01~0.05). The BMD of the whole body had no significant change (P>0.05).
CONCLUSION
Lard impacted the BMD by DXA Hologic QDR 4500A, BMD of the LS significantly decreases, but BMD of the whole body has no significant change. BMD of the hip significantly increases with lard.

Purpose:
Bone destruction and pain caused by cancer is one of the most devastating complications of cancer patients with bone metastases, and it seriously affects the quality of patients’ life. Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN) is a cell adhesion molecule with increased expression in a variety of tumors. This study focused to clarify the specific function of EMMPRIN in bone metastasis of breast cancer.
Materials and Methods:
Adenovirus with shRNA-EMMPRIN was transfected into MRMT-1 rat breast carcinoma cells, and the MRMT-1 cells with different expression levels of EMMPRIN were implanted into the bone marrow cavity of rat tibia. Next, the effect of down-regulation of EMMPRIN was evaluated as follows: bone damage was detected by X-ray radiological and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining; the tumor burden was evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining; the test of pain-related behaviors was assessed used the bilateral paw withdrawal mechanical threshold; and the levels of secretory factors in tumor conditioned medium were determined by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Results:
We found that down-regulation of EMMPRIN in tumor cells can simultaneously reduce tumor burden, relieve cancer-induced bone destruction and pain.
Conclusion:
Materials and Methods
EMMPRIN is expected to be a therapeutic target for relieving bone metastasis of breast cancer and alleviating cancerinduced bone destruction and pain. The method of targeting EMMPRIN may be a promising strategy for the treatment of cancer in the future.

Objective To survey the prevalence of greenhouse farmer's lung and related risk factors in part of rural areas of Liaoning Province. Methods Using uniform scheme, procedures and questionnaire,a survey for 5420 farmers(2660 men and 2760 women)with complete data who work inside greenhouses was performed in Shenyang,Xinmin,Chaoyang, and Jinzhou between August 2006 and June 2009.Pulmonary function tests was performed for every active farmer. Results Greenhouse farmer's lung was diagnosed in 308 cases,205 men(66.55%,205/308)and 103 women(33.44%,103/308),a prevalence of 5.7%(308/5420).The prevalence rate of greenhouse farmer's lung in males was significantly higher than that in females(?2=39.93,P0.05).In the 308 cases, the number of patiernts presented with fever chill,cough/sputum,chest tightness/shortness of breath were 180(58.44%),192(62.34%),160(51.95%)respectively,and the number of crepitations, radiological changes, spirometry abnormalities and serum IgE antibodies(+)was 164(53.25%),153(49.68%),147(47.73%)and 136(44.16%)at the time of the study.62.34%(192/308)of patients with greenhouse farmer's lung were mild and 38.66%(116/308)were severe. Conclusion The total prevalence rate of greenhouse farmer's lung in part of rural areas of Liaoning Province was 5.7% and multiple risk factors were associated with the disease.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2023;41(4):463-470
OBJECTIVES:
To evaluate the effects of a Twin-block appliance on the condyles of patients with ClassⅡmalocclusion by conducting a systematic review and a Meta-analysis.
METHODS:
Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and VIP Database were electronically searched. Randomized controlled trials, controlled clinical trials, and single-arm trials on condylar changes produced by a Twin-block appliance in patients with ClassⅡmalocclusion were included. Two reviewers independently extracted and assessed the risk of bias. Meta-analyses were conducted with Review Manager 5.3.
RESULTS:
Eight studies were included; among which, seven were of high quality. After treatment with a twin block appliance, condyles moved anteriorly. The anterior joint spaces decreased (P<0.000 01), whereas the posterior spaces increased (P<0.000 01). The superior spaces were not changed (P=0.11). Moreover, a significant difference was observed in the increase of the condylar space index (P<0.000 01). After treatment, the anteroposterior diameters of the condyles and condylar height increased (P=0.000 2 and P<0.000 01, respectively). By contrast, no significant changes were discovered in the medial external diameters of the condyles (P=0.42).
CONCLUSIONS
A Twin-block appliance can promote the growth of a condyle in the posterior and upper direction and move it forward in favor of the correction of Class Ⅱ malocclusion.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2024;30(1):81-86
ObjectiveTo observe the effect of neural mobilization based on shoulder control training on shoulder pain and upper limb function in stroke patients with hemiplegia. MethodsFrom January, 2020 to November, 2021, 43 patients with hemiplegia after stroke in the Second People's Hospital of Nantong were randomly divided into control group (n = 21) and treatment group (n = 22). The control group received shoulder control training, while the treatment group received neural mobilization in addition. Before and after four weeks of treatment, they were evaluated with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) of pain and Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremities (FMA-UE). ResultsOne case dropped off in the control group and two cases dropped off in the treatment group. After treatment, the NRS score and FMA-UE score improved in both groups (|t| >7.898, P < 0.001), and they were better in the treatment group than in the control group (|t| >2.337, P < 0.05). ConclusionNeural mobilization based on shoulder control training can significantly alleviate shoulder pain and improve upper limb motor function in stroke patients with hemiplegia.
