Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of thermo-chemotherapy and thermo-lipiodol embolization intreatment of primary hepatocellular carcinoma(PHC).Methods One hundred and sixteen cases of PHC were divided into three groups.Group A(38 cases)was treated with normal temperature chemotherapy and normal temperature lipiodol,Group B(40 cases)with thermo-chemotherapy and normal temperature lipiodol and group C(38 cases)with thermo-chemotherapy and thermo-lipiodol.Group B and group C were called the thermotherapy group.Results In the thermotherapy groups,the rates of tumor size reduction were significantly greater than those in the normal group.There were no significant different in the hepatic function tests among the three groups.The 6-,12-,18-,and 24-month survival rates of the normal group and thermotherapy groups were 97%,58%,39% and 18%,versus 99%,79%,57% and 36%,respectively.No significant differences were found in the rates of reduction of tumor size and survival rates between group B and group C.Conclusion Thermo-chemotherapy and thermo-embolization possess significant effect on PHC but without conspicuous damage to liver function.

Electric and electronic products are required to pass through the certification on electrical safety performance before entering into the market in order to reduce electrical shock and electrical fire so as to protect the safety of people and property. The leakage current is the most important factor in testing the electrical safety performance and the test theory is based on the perception current effect and threshold. The traditional method testing the current threshold for perception only depends on the sensing of the human body and is affected by psychological factors. Some authors filter the effect of subjective sensation by using physiological and psychological statistical algorithm in recent years and the reliability and consistency of the experiment data are improved. We established an experiment system of testing the human hody's current threshold for perception based on EEG feature analysis, and obtained 967 groups of data. We used wavelet packet analysis to detect a wave from EEG, and used FFT to do spectral analysis on alpha wave before and after the current flew through the human body. The study has shown that about 97.72% alpha wave energy changes significantly when electrical stimulation occurs. It is well proved that when the EEG feature identification is applied to test the human body current threshold for perception, and meanwhile alpha wave energy change and human body sensing are used together to confirm if the current flowing through the human body reaches the perception threshold, the measurement of the human body current threshold for perception could be carried out objectively and accurately.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the biological and molecular biological characteristics of Klebsiella pneumoniae in burn patients in order to give the first hand information for preventing and controlling of hospital acquired infections.METHODS The identification was done by Bio-Merieux ATB expression.Antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed with K-B method.The plasmid DNA was extracted by Alkaline Lysis,and separated by electrophoresis on the gel.The ESBLs detection was based on NCCLS.RESULTS The K.pneumoniae from the burn patients and the environment were sensitive to CIP,FOX and IPM,but showed resistance to the rest 12 antibiotics.The plasmid DNA profile analysis showed 3 types,and the relative molecular mass was approximately 4.7?106,3.6?106 and 2.0?106.The molecular biological characteristics showed these pathogens were ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae,which was different from the control bacteria.At the same time,the pathogens caused the original infection were detected,and they were accordingly Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus pyogenes,and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.CONCLUSIONS The outbreak in burn patients is caused by ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae,which has the same antibiotic resistance spectrum and plasmid DNA profile.This ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae has the same origin.The pathogen might be transmitted by the case history clips and the door knobs.It was suggested that something must be done to enhance the antisepsis administration in order to prevent the hospital acquired infection.

Objective To investigate the expression of Dickkopf-3 (Dkk-3) in esophageal cancer and normal esophageal tissue and the relationship between Dkk-3 expression and the biological behaveior of esophageal cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical method of S-P was used to examine Dkk-3 expression in 69 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and 5 cases of normal esophageal tissue with non-tumor tissue microarray and the results were analyzed and correlated with their clinical and pathological features. Results Positive Dkk-3 expression was observed in 65.7% (44/67) of the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cases, but only one of the five cases with normal esophageal tissue showed positive microvascular expression of Dkk-3. In cases with positive expression of Dkk-3 significant differences were found in fiber membrane infiltration, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM staging (P < 0. 05), while no significant differences were found in the age, gender and pathological grading (P > 0. 05). Conclusions The upregnlation of Dkk-3 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma may contribute to tumor invasion and metastasis.

Objective To investigate the effect of short stature homeobox (SHOX) gene promoter-372G →A mutation on the promoter activity and its mechanism.Methods The luciferase report gene vectors containing human SHOX gene promoter-372G or -372A were contructed.Their transcription activities were detected in chicken chondrocytes.Double-stranded DNA probes containing-372G or-372A were produced by PCR,and used for detecting the affinity with nuclear transcription factors by electrophoretic mobility shift assay(EMSA).Results The transcription activity in a-372A promoter construct was significantly higher than that in the wild type-372G (P<0.01).The result of EMSA showed that-372A gene mutation resulted in loss of the binding affinity to nuclear transcription factors.Conclusion The-372A mutation increases SHOX promoter activity with decreased DNA binding affinity to transcription factors,which may contribute to impaired long bone growth in patients with idio pathic short stature.

Objective To investigate the changes of hippocampal neurogenesis and cognitive dysfunction induced by cranial radiation therapy.Methods C57BL/6J mice aged 10 d were subjected to 10 Gy whole brain irradiation with 6 MV X-rays to develop irradiation-induced brain injury model.Morris water maze was designed to estimate spatial learning and memory.At different time post irradiation,brain tissue was removed to stain with hematoxylin-eosin for the pathological results.DCX and PCNA immunohistochemical staining was used to mark the level of neurogenesis in the hippocampus,and ED1immunohistochemical staining to mark the activation of microglia.The TUNEL assay was used to assess the apoptotic neuron death in situ in the hippocampus.Real-time PCR was supplied to inspect the expression of TNF-α and IL-1 β mRNA.Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) was tested for the concentration of TNF-αt in the plasma.Results Pathological studies demonstrated that radiation could induce interstitial edema,inflammatory cell infiltration,cell degeneration,necrosis,apoptosis in the acute phase,edema subsiding,reduction of inflammatory cells,and cytothesis in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus.IHC studies revealed that,at different time post irradiation,the number of DCX-positive cells and PCNA-positive cells decreased (F =4.9-12.5,5.2-15.7,P ＜ 0.05) but ED1-positive cells increased significantly (F =20.8,P ＜ 0.05).TUNEL-positive cells began to appear in the dentate gyrus of hippocampus 6 h post-irradiation,and its number reached to the highest level at 48 h post-irradiation (F =15.1,P ＜ 0.05).The formation of γ-H2AX foci got at the top 0.5 h post-irradiation (F =18.4,P ＜0.05) and then decreased.After irradiation,the expressions of TNF-α and IL-1β mRNA in the the irradiated group was higher than those of the control group (t =16.3,12.7,P ＜ 0.05).The concentration of TNF-α in the plasma of the irradiated group was higer than that in the control group 3 h post-irradiation,and maximized at 1 week post-irradiation (F =10.5,P ＜ 0.05).Morris water maze tests showed that the latency had no significant differences between the irradiated group and the control group at 1,2,3 d postirradiation,but the latency in the irradiated group was longer than that in the control group with a significant differences at 4,5,6 d post-irradiation (F =7.01,8.17,4.22,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Irradiation-induced cognitive dysfunction may be caused by microglial activation and suppression in hippocampal neurogenesis following cranial radiation therapy.

Objective To explore any changes in the surface electromyography (sEMG) signals measured on the spastic upper limb muscles of stroke parents during maximum isometric voluntary contraction and to analyze any abnormal synergy patterns quantitatively in order to design better rehabilitation programs for developing coordination.Methods Ten stroke survivors with hemiparesis were selected into a patient group and ten healthy counterparts were recruited into a control group.sEMG signals were recorded bilaterally from the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU),biceps brachii (BB),triceps brachii (TB) and deltoid (D) during maximum isometric voluntary contractions involving wrist flexion and extension,elbow flexion and extension,and shoulder abduction.The two groups' co-contraction ratios (CR) and co-activation ratios were calculated and compared.Results During elbow flexion and extension the average CR of the BB on the affected side was significantly higher than that on the unaffected side and also significantly higher than the control group average.The average CR of the TB on the affected side was significantly higher than that of the healthy controls.In all cases the average CR of the BB was larger than that of the TB.The difference in CR between the TB and the BB on the affected side was significantly larger than on the unaffected side and the control group average.During elbow flexion,the co-activation ratio of the FCU,TB and D on the affected side was significantly higher than on the unaffected side and among the healthy controls,and the co-activation ratio of the FCU on the affected side was significantly higher than that of the D and TB.During elbow extension,the co-activation ratio of the FCU,BB and D on the affected side was significantly higher in the same way,and the co-activation ratio of the FCU on the affected side was again significantly higher than that of the D and BB.During wrist flexion,the average co-activation ratio of the BB and D on the affected side was significantly greater than that on the unaffected side and among the healthy controls,and the co-activation ratio of the BB on the affected side was significantly higher than that of the D and TB.During shoulder abduction,the co-activation ratio of the BB on the affected side was significantly larger than on the unaffected side and among the healthy controls.Conclusion After a stroke the upper limbs often show flexor spasticity and abnormal synergy patterns.Rehabilitation strategy should be adopted to tackle these so as to enhance overall limb coordination.

Adielectrophoresis-basedmicrofluidicchipappliedtocellspatterningisdesignedandfabricated, and it demonstrates non-contact and batch manipulation of cells. The microfluidic chip employs a PDMS microchannel and two ITO electrodes, which are designed as astep shape. The distribution of electric field caused by the microelectrodes is simulated by finite element simulation software, COMSOL. The position of the maximum intensity of electric field is also determined. The ITO microelectrodes and the PDMS microchannel are fabricated using MEMS fabrication process. After oxygen plasma surface treatment, the PDMS microchannel and glass substrate with the ITO microelectrodes are aligned and bonded to form experimental microfluidic chip. Through DEP experiment with the varying frequencies, DEP response of yeast cells is examined, and the electric field frequency of the both positive and negative DEP responses are confirmed. The results showed that yeast cells in solution conductivity of 60 μS/cm had negative DEP movement at the frequency of 1 kHz to 10 kHz, positive DEP movement at the 500 kHz to 10 MHz, and no DEP movement at the 50 kHz. Under the condition of the sinusoidal potential of 8Vp-p and the electric field frequency of 5 MHz, the yeast cells were aligned into chains along the step edge of microelectrodes.

Objective To improve the differential diagnosis between autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) and pancreatic cancer (PC) by a contrast analysis of imageological features.Methods Thirty-six patients who had postoperative pathological with Asian AIP standards and 95 patients who had postoperative pathological consistent with PC.The imageological results of these AIP and PC patients were analyzed.Results AIP was significantly less than PC in the enhanced CT of a mass or enlargement of the pancreatic head,enlargement of the lymph nodes around the pancreas,dilation and interrupt in pancreatic and bile duct,peripheral vascular and organ involvement (11/27 vs.28/40,2/27 vs.17/40,13/27 vs.32/40,1/27 vs.10/40,8/27 vs.26/40,2/27 vs.15/40,0/27 vs.15/40,0/27 vs.10/40,P ＜ 0.05).AIP was significantly more than PC in the enhanced CT of a diffusely enlarged pancreas,calcification or pancreatic calculus,capsule-like rim or the vague peripancreatic fat interval (4/27 vs.0/40,7/27 vs.0/40,10/27 vs.6/40,P ＜ 0.05).AIP was significantly less than PC in the three-dimensional ultrasonography of dilation diameter of pancreatic duct and dilation of common bile duct [(0.421 ± 0.270) cm vs.(0.594 ± 0.270) cm,1/18 vs.16/26,P＜ 0.05].AIP was significantly less than PC in the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography of dilation of common bile duct and interrupt in pancreatic duct (7/13 vs.16/18,1/13 vs.10/18,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion AIP as a unique type of chronic pancreatitis can be distinguished from PC on distinctive imageological features

Objective To improve the different diagnosis between autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP) and pancreatic cancer(PC) by a retrospective analysis of clinical symptoms and serological features.Methods The analysis included 36 patients who had postoperative pathological,serological findings consistent with Asian AIP standards and 95 patients who had postoperative pathological consistent with PC pathological standards.All patients were admitted by the surgery department of our hospital from January,2003 to October,2011.A retrospective comparative analysis of the clinical manifestations,serology data of these AIP and PC patients was conducted.And summary the differential diagnosis characteristics of AIP and pancreatic cancer in the clinical symptoms,the serology.Results The features of different diagnosis:(1) The age of patients with PC was higher than AIP((60.9 ±9.0) years vs.(53.56 ± 14.6) years,t =3.48,P ＜0.05),and AIP preferred to male groups (x2 =2.88,P =0.09).(2) The clinical features of AlP and PC with the age characteristics were easily confused.Both clinical features were relatively typical in younger age which could be found earlier and relatively insidious in the older age which might be found with delay.(3) AIP were often complicated by biliary system inflammations(AIP =47.2％,PC =12.6％,x2 =18.12,P ＜ 0.05),while PC were usually complicated by the cysts in liver and kidney (PC =29.5％,AIP =0,x2 =13.50,P ＜ 0.05).(4) The high titer in CA199 had a higher value in the diagnosis of PC (concentration:group AIP =20.51 (9.55,86.5) kU/L,group PC =326.50 (94.38,10393.00) kU/L; positive rate:group AIP =35.70％ (10/28),group PC =86.70％ (65/75),P =0.000).The high titers in amylase (concentration:group AIP =103.50 (72.00,252.00) U/L,group PC =46.50 (21.65,96.90) U/L; positive rate:group AIP =45.00％ (9/20),group PC =19.40％ (7/36),P =0.043),lipase(concentration:group AIP =340.50(152.05,495.80) U/L,group PC =107.40(23.40,177.26) U/L,P =0.005 ; aspartate aminotransferase (positive rate:group AIP =75.00％ (27/36),group,PC =55.90％ (52/93),P =0.046) andγ-glutamyltranspeptidase (positive rate:group AIP =79.40％ (27/34),group PC =57.10％ (52/91),P =0.022) had higher values in the diagnosis of AIP.The significant increases in CA199 were not the basis which excluding AIP.Conclusion AIP as a unique type of chronic pancreatitis can be distinguished from PC on distinctive clinical,serological characteristics.
