?AIM: To investigate NO levels in tears and anterior chamber inflammation after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation with trabeculectomy through different operative incisions.?METHODS: Totally 49 patients ( 50 eyes ) with primary acute angle - closure glaucoma and cataract were randomly divided to single-incision group and double-incision group. Both were treated by phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation and trabeculectomy after routine IOP-lowering drugs treatment. Preoperative and postoperative NO levels in tears were compared, and the aqueous flare and cells were examined using a laser flare-cell meter ( LFCM) .?RESULTS:Postoperative tear NO was 9. 86±0. 78μmol/L in single-incision group , it was 9. 13 ± 0. 67μmol/L in double-incision group, the differences was statistically significant(t=3. 57,P<0. 05). Postoperative aqueous flare values was 62. 42±18. 16 pc/ms in single-incision group;it was 52. 20 ± 17. 57 pc/ms in double-incision group, the differences was statistically significant(t=2. 02, P<0. 05).?CONCLUSION: The early inflammatory injury of double-incision was significantly lower than that of single -incision. It has the advantages of safety. But the surgical skill should be improved to less the injuries caused by operations.

OBJECTIVETo observe the therapeutic effect of Hongbeiyegen [the root of Alchornea trewioides(Benth.) Muell.-Arg.] on alcohol-induced liver fibrosis (AF) in rats and explore its mechanism.
METHODSIn rats with AF, the serum levels of transforming growth factor beta1 (TGFbeta1) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) were detected along with examination of the changes in serum hyaluronic acid (HA), laminin (LN), procolagen type III (PC III), collagen type IV (C IV), glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (ALT) and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase (AST) levels.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, Hongbeiyegen could significantly reduce the levels of TGFbeta1, TIMP-1, HA, LN, PC III, CIV, ALT and AST in rats with AF.
CONCLUSIONHongbeiyegen can relieve and ameliorate liver fibrosis possibly by inhibiting the expression of TGFbeta1 and TIMP-1.

OBJECTIVETo study the correlation between noise and blood pressure and/or hypertension, and its age characteristic.
METHODSThe pure tone audiometric and blood pressure examinations were performed in 14537 workers from 157 factories. Hearing impairment was used as a surrogate indicator of cumulated noise exposure. The associations of hearing impairment and duration of noise exposure with blood pressure and hypertension were analyzed respectively after age and gender stratification.
RESULTSMost of the objects were males (81.2%), younger than 35 years old (77.8%), and the duration of exposure to noise was less than 5 years (73.6%). The prevalence of hearing impairment in males was significantly higher than that in males, and increased with age and duration of noise exposure. Only in males with age younger than 35 years old, the systolic and diastolic blood pressures of subjects with sensorineural hearing loss significantly enhanced, and the diastolic blood pressure and prevalence of hypertension increased with duration of noise exposure. The risk of hypertension in males with sensorineural hearing loss significantly increased, the odds ratios in subjects with age younger than 35 years old and with age older than 35 years old were 3.0 (95%CI: 1.5 ∼ 6.1) and 2.1 (95%CI: 1.2 ∼ 3.4), respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe severe hearing impairment induced by noise was associated with hypertension. It is suggested that people should pay attention to the effects of noise on hypertension in young workers.

OBJECTIVETo isolate viruses from mosquitoes in the south of Xinjiang and identify these viruses primarily.
METHODSA total of 13 491 mosquitoes were collected in the south of Xinjiang from Jul to Aug, 2005. These mosquitoes were divided into 130 groups and grinded respectively. The supernates were inoculated in C6/36 and Vero cells. Viruses isolated were detected, the genomic nucleic types by electrophoresis of viral genomes and the morphologies observed under electronmicroscope.
RESULTSAll 42 viruses were isolated, which caused CPEs on C6/36 but not on Vero cells. 27 viruses showed similar genomic profiles with 12 dsRNA segments. 1 virus displayed genomic profile with 10 dsRNA segments. 5 viruses took on similar genomic profiles with about 4 kbp DNA band. 9 viruses did not get any taxonomy information. Electromicroscopic pictures of these viruses revealed that above four types of viruses had distinguished morphologies indicating different virus species.
CONCLUSIONThere should be several virus species in the mosquitoes in the south of Xinjiang. dsRNA virus with 12 genomic segments should play analysis a predominant role in the south of Xinjiang.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the situation of occupational health surveillance and the characteristics of occupational diseases in Guangzhou.
METHODSThe situation of occupational health surveillance and the morbidity of occupational diseases were studied retrospectively by use of the physical examination data collected from the labour hygienic reports of the city from 1993 to 2002. The data were divided into two groups: the first group from 1993 to 1997, and the second from 1998 to 2002.
RESULTSAnnual average of occupational health examination in the past 10 years was over 75%. The data in the second group (1998 - 2002) showed that the number of hearing loss observed subjects, noise surveilled personnels, dust and chemicals contraindicated personnels were significantly higher than those in the 1st group (P < 0.01). The morbidity of chronic occupational disease newly occurred was 91 cases in lst group, and 181 cases in 2nd group (P < 0.05), in which the incidence of chemical poisoning and noise induced hearing loss increased significantly but that of pneumoconiosis between two groups was not significantly different (P > 0.05). In the past 10 years, 581 cases of occupational diseases were diagnosed, of which, 309 cases (53.18%) were acute poisonings, while 272 cases (46.82%) were chronic occupational diseases. Pneumoconiosis, lead and benzene poisoning were common in chronic occupational diseases (16.70%, 16.87% respectively). With the passage of time, the incidence ages of pneumoconiosis, chemical poisoning and total occupational diseases tended towards younger. The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01)
CONCLUSIONA normal system for occupational health surveillance has been developed in Guangzhou. Detectable rates in focused surveillance and contraindication have been obviously increasing. The incidence of occupational disease (mainly including acute occupational poisoning, pneumoconiosis, lead and benzene poisonings) is also going up. The incidence age of chronic occupational diseases tends to be younger accompanied with a shorter work history.

OBJECTIVETo study the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of renal epithelial neoplasms.
METHODSNinety-one cases of renal epithelial neoplasms with detailed pathologic records were enrolled. In addition to microscopic examination, Mowy's colloidal iron staining and immunohistochemical studies (CD10, vimentin and CK7) were also performed.
RESULTSAmong the 91 cases, there were 78 (86%) clear cell renal carcinoma cases, 8 (9%) papillary renal carcinoma cases, 4 (4%) chromophobe renal carcinoma cases and 1 (1%) renal oncocytoma case. Sixty-three of the 78 clear cell renal carcinoma cases were positive for CD10 and 69 were positive for vimentin (81% and 88% respectively), with prominent cell membrane staining. The majority (74/78) of clear cell renal carcinoma were negative for CK7. All 17 clear cell renal carcinoma cases showed negative or focal coarse droplet-like staining pattern for Mowy's colloidal iron stain. All 4 chromophobe renal cell carcinoma cases showed prominent cell membrane staining for CK7 and blue reticular staining pattern for Mowy's colloidal iron stain. All of which were negative for CD10 and vimentin. The case of renal oncocytoma failed to react with antibodies to CD10, vimentin and CK7, or Mowy's colloidal iron stain.
CONCLUSIONSCD10, vimentin, CK7 and Mowy's colloidal iron stains have proved to be useful in differential diagnosis of common renal tumors which may not be easily distinguished on the basis of histologic examination alone.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2011;31(7):1197-1199
OBJECTIVETo investigate the mRNA expression of collagen genes in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and paired normal oral mucosal tissue.
METHODSThe differential mRNA expressions of collagen genes between 30 OSCC tissues and the paired normal oral mucosal tissues were detected by RT-PCR.
RESULTThe relative expression level of COL1A1 mRNA in the 30 cancerous tissues was up-regulated by 2.78 folds as compared with its expression in the paired normal samples, suggesting its significant overexpression in OSCC (P<0.001). The expression levels of COL1A2, COL4A1, COL4A2, and COL5A2 mRNA in the cancerous tissues were up-regulated by 1.07, 1.15, 1.27, and 1.16 folds compared to those in paired normal samples (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONCOL1A1 mRNA overexpression may play an important role in the carcinogenesis of OSCC and can be a potential molecular marker of OSCC.
