AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effect of a new warm moist air device assisted with eyelid massage in the treatment of office dry eye (ODE).METHODS: Sixty ODE patients were recruited,and these patients were randomly divided into two groups.One group received artificial tear treatment,and the other group received a new eyelid warm moist air device combined with eyelid massage treatment.Subjects completed the ocular surface disease index (OSDI),which was followed by fluorescein tear breakup time (BUT),corneal fluorescein staining (CFS),Schirmer I test (SⅠt) and meibomian gland secretion function evaluation at baseline,and 2 and 4wk after treatment.RESULTS: In these 60 patients,48 patients(23 in artificial tear treated group and 25 in the new warm moist air device assisted with eyelid massage treated group)were positive for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).Compared to artificial tear treatment,the new warm moist air device assisted with eyelid massage treatment showed favorable therapeutic effect on OSDI (FGroup=41.63,P<0.01),BUT (FGroup=60.47,P<0.01) and the grade of meibum quality (FGroup=12.12,P<0.01) during 4wk treatment in this study.No significant difference was found in SIT (FGroup=0.17,P>0.05),CFS (FGroup=1.79,P>0.05) and meibomian gland expressibility (FGroup=0.68,P>0.05) between the two groups during 4wk treatment.CONCLUSION: This new eyelid warm moist air device assisted with eyelid massage has favorable therapeutic effect over artificial tear in ODE treatment.

Human history has never seen so many infectious diseases as in recent times and human being has to face this great challenge threaten public health.The increased global population,increased travel,human-induced global changes,poverty and the breakdown of public health measures,all of these factors make that novel infectious diseases can emerge in any part of the world at any time.In this article,we point out some shortages in diagnosis and screening the infectious diseases in the laboratory,emphasize the importance of surveillance,finally give some suggestions about how to improve the current ability to detect, prevent and treat the infectious diseases.

Objective: To research the usability of the purpose-in-life test (PIL) for Chinese university students and evaluate the test’s reliability and validity. Methods: 1171 University students were measured by PIL, SCL-90 and Index of Well-being, and 140 University students were retested by PIL. Results: PIL had four factors (life feeling, life goal, life attitude and self-control) which were extracted by factor analysis. The split half reliability was 0.786, the Cronbach ?-co-efficient of PIL and the four factors were 0.878, 0.860, 0.809, 0.270, 0.406 respectively. The test-retest reliability were 0.837,0.849,0.630,0.314,0.728. The scores of Index of Well-being, the total scores of SCL-90 and the factor of depression were used as external criterion;the criterion correlation coefficient were 0.769,-0.504,-0.560 respectively. Objective To study the state of psychoanalysis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and assess the Quality of life with fluoxetine therapy. Methods Fifty-three patients were evaluated by self-rating depression scale (SDS). The depression group were treated with fluoxetine. The quality of life of patientswith RA at the study entry and at the end of study were evaluated by questionnaire. Results 77.6% of these patients had clinical features of depression. A high frequency including upset, loss of interest, insomnia, irritability and life devoid of meaning were observed. The SDS and quality of life scores were improved after treated with fluoxetine. Conclusion There is serious depression in patients with RA. The therapy with fluox-etine can help to improve the quality of life.

Objective To probe into the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with herbal medicine with the functions of detoxication and purging fu-organ on patients with constipation of phlegm-heat and bowel-repletion type in acute cerebral infarction.Methods The enrolled cases were randomly assigned to an observation group of 35 cases and a control grouD of 35 cases.Besides both groups were treated with routine neurological treatment and acupuncture with the flinchon of brain activating,the observation group was treated by acupuncture combined with herbal medicine with the functions of detoxication and purging fu-organ and the control group was treated with Dilute Glycerol.Such indexes of patients in both groups were observed 7 days and 21 days before and after the treatment as clinical effect of constipation,scores of related symptoms,and scores of traditional Chinese medical category and clinical effect.Results The effective rates of eonstipation 7 davs and 21 days after treatment were 93.7% and96.9% in the observation group,and 61.8% and79.4% in the control group,with significant differences between the two groups(P＜0.01).After the treatment for 7 days and 21 days,the symptoms of constipation.dark tongue,yellow and greasy fur were improved significantly in the observation group than those in the control group(P＜0.05);The observation group also showed a definite therapeutic effect than the control group on treating the svmptoms of upset minded,constipation,red or dark tongue,yellow and greasy fur(P＜0.01).The scores of traditional Chinese medical category of the observation group were lower than that of the control group(P＜0.01)after treatment for21 days.The total improvement rate was 97.0% in the observation group comparing 55.8%in the control group,showing significant difference(P＜0.01).Conclusion The method of acupuncture combined with herbal medicine with the functions of detoxication and purging fu-organ has a definite therapeutic effect on treating constipation of phlegm-heat and bowel-repletion in acute cerebral infarction.It can also improve clinical effects of these patients,which is worth generalizing in the clinical practice.
