AIM: To observe the interocular symmetry of primary angle-closure suspects` (PACS) parameters using IOL Master.METHODS: A cross-sectional observational study.Totally 112 eyes from 56 subjects were enrolled to detect the difference of the bilateral axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and white to white distance(WTW), and to evaluate the correlation between the interocular differences of △AL, △ACD and △WTW and age, gender.RESULTS: All the parameters were analyzed by paired-samples t test and there were no significant interocular difference (P>0.05).There was no relation of ΔAL,ΔACD and ΔWTW with age and gender.CONCLUSION: Interocular symmetry of parameters by IOL Master was observed in PACS, and we found that the symmetry would not be altered when the age and gender had changed.

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical efficacy of mouse nerve growth factor (NGF) in the treatment of sudden deafness. METHOD: A retrospective analysis was performed on 115 cases of hospitalized patients who were suffered from sudden deafness. Patients were divided into two groups according to treatment medicine. Control group: patients were treated with intravenous vasodilators, energy mixture, steroid pulse therapy, and methylcobalamin neurotrophic therapy. NGF group: intramuscular NGF treatment was added on the basis of conventional therapy mentioned above. Both treatments lasted 14 days, the total efficiency were compared. Patients were further divided into sub-groups according to age, duration and the level of pre-treatment PTA, and the treatment efficiency was further compared. By SPSS 11.0 statistical analysis, a P < 0.05 was considered as statistical significant difference. RESULT: (1) The total efficiency of NGF group was significantly higher than control group. (2) Regard of age, the efficiency of NGF treatment group was significantly higher than control group. (3) For the patients whose duration were less than 7 d, or the PTA < or = 60 dBHL, the efficiency of NGF group were significantly higher. For the patients whose duration were more than 7 d, or the PTA>60 dBHL, the efficiency of NGF therapy was not superior to the traditional treatment. CONCLUSION NGF can significantly improve the symptom of patients with short duration or low PTA. For this kind of patients, NGF adjuvant therapy should be recommended. For the patients with longer duration and higher level of PTA, NGF therapy is not advocated. NGF treatment should not be in consideration of the age.

Objective To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of green tea extract (GTE) in improving lipid metabolism in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS).Methods All relevant published articles in Chinese and English literature database were searched to collect the randomized controlled trials comparing the efficiency and safety of GTE in patients with MS.The meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.2 software.Results Nine studies involving 566 patients were included.The results of recta-analysis showed that:GTE significantly reduced the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (SMD =-0.33,95％ CI-0.56 ～ -0.09,P=0.007)compared with placebo at the treatment endpoint.There were no statistical significance in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD =0.19,95 ％ CI-0.04 ～ 0.43,P =0.10),total cholesterol (SMD =-0.13,95％ CI-0.39 ～ 0.13,P =0.33),and triglyceride (SMD =-0.07,95％ CI-0.46 ～ 0.33,P =0.74) levels between two groups.There was no significant difference in the overall rate of adverse events between two groups (OR =0.97,95 ％ CI 0.54 ～ 1.76,P =0.93).Conclusion GTE significantly reduces the level of LDL-C in patients with MS,and the adverse events were rare and mild.

Objective: To identify the influence of extracts and active components of Rhizoma Coptidis on gastric smooth muscle contractility of guinea pigs, and to explore the potential pharmacological mechanism of Rhizoma Coptidis in "invigorating the stomach" and "impairing the stomach". Methods: Observing the effects of the water extract and the alkaloids from Rhizoma Coptidis (at doses ranging from 0.3 to 1 000 mug/L) and other active components such as berberine, palmatine and jatrorrhizine (at doses ranging from 0.3 to 1 000 mumol/L) on the spontaneous and electrical field stimulation (EFS)-induced contractions of antral circular smooth muscle strips from guinea pig stomach via a force transducer in vitro. Results: The water extract or the alkaloids from Rhizoma Coptidis could improve the spontaneous contraction at the low doses, but inhibit the spontaneous contraction at the high doses. Berberine, palmatine and jatrorrhizine also showed the similar effects. Moreover, the water extract and the alkaloids of Rhizoma Coptidis, as well as berberine, palmatine and jatrorrhizine could increase the EFS-induced contraction. Among the three monomers, jatrorrhizine exhibited the most potent effect on EFS-induced contraction. Conclusion: The effects of Rhizoma Coptidis in "invigorating the stomach" or "impairing the stomach" may be related to its effect on gastric smooth muscle contractility. Berberine, palmatine and jatrorrhizine are all effective components of Rhizoma Coptidis affecting the contraction of gastric smooth muscle, among which jatrorrhizine is the most potent agent in promoting the contraction while berberine is the most potent one for inhibiting the contraction.

Objective To compare the surgical outcomes between laparoscopic and open surgeries in treatment of ectopic oviduct pregnancy, and investigate the clinical value of laparoscopic surgery. Methods Two hundred and forty-six patients with ectopic oviduct pregnancy in our hospital from June 2009 to March 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. 134 cases were treated with laparoscopic operation and 112 with open surgery. Some parameters such as operative time, blood loss, usage of pain-killer, hospital stay were compared between both groups. Results All operations were successful. Laparoscopic surgery was shown to be superior to open operation in the parameters of operative time, blood loss, usage of pain-killer and hospital stay ( < 0.05) . Conclusion Compared with open operation, laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of less trauma and rapid postoperative rehabilitation. It may become the first line treatment for ectopic oviduct pregnancy.

Objective To systematically evaluate the efficacy of green tea extract (GTE) on weight control in metabolic syndrome (MS).Methods Related randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about GTE and MS were searched and identified from PubMed,Scopus,PsycINFO,EMBase,the VIP database,CNKI,and Wanfang Resource Database.Valid data were extracted according to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria.The RevMan 5.2.2 software was used to carry out the meta-analysis.Results A total of 10 trials involving 626 patients were ultimately included.Meta analysis showed that:1) compared with the placebo group,body weight (SMD=0.19,95％ CI-0.34 to-0.03,Z 2.34,P=0.02) and waist circumference (SMD=-0.19,95％CI-0.36 to-0.02,Z=2.15,P=0.03) were significantly decreased in the GTE group;2) no significant difference was found between the two groups in BMI (SMD=0.14,95％ CI-0.31 to 0.03,Z=1.63,P=0.10),hip circumference (SMD=0.15,95％CI-0.11 to 0.42,Z=1.12,P=0.26) or waist-to-hip ratio (WMD=-0.02,95％CI-0.05 to 0.01,Z=1.32,P=0.19).Conclusions Green tea extract can significantly reduce body weight and waist circumference in patients with metabolic syndrome.

Objective To investigate the application value of microcolumn gel technology in screening hemolytic disease of the newborns(HDN) .Methods The direct antiglobulin test(DAT) ,antibody release test and free antibody test were performed in 212 cases of suspected HDN in our hospital by using microcolumn gel assay .Results In 212 cases of suspected HDN ,50 cases(23 .6% ) were diagnosed as HDN ,including 45 cases (21 .2% ) of ABO‐HDN and 5 cases (2 .4% ) of Rh‐HDN .In 45 cases of ABO‐HDN ,23 cases (36 .5% ) were A blood type and 22 cases (28 .2% ) were B blood type .The sensitivity of antibody release test ,DAT and free antibody test was 100% ,28% and 92% respectively .Conclusion The microcolumn gel technology can detect HDN fastly and accu‐rately ,with the advantages of simple operation ,less sample consumption ,high sensitivity and specificity ,which can provide reliable basis for HDN diagnosis and is worth popularizing and applying in clinic .

Objective To study the infection rate and sensitivity of genitourinary tract mycoplasma among the patients in the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) hospital ,and its similarities and differences with the western medicine hospital ,thus to increase the therapeutic effect by combining with the related therapeutic measures of TCM .Methods The mycoplasma identification and drug susceptibility test results in 4 086 female genital tract specimens were performed the retrospective analysis .Then the medica‐tion strategy was investigated by combining with clinic .Results Of the 4 086 specimens ,1 891 cases were Mycoplasma positive with the total positive rate of 46 .3% ;in which the positive rate of ureaplasma urealyticum(UU) was higher(40 .7% ,1663 cases) , the most sensitive drugs were pyostacin and josamycin with the sensitive rates of 99 .11% and 99 .01% respectively ;mycoplasma hominis(M H) was less with the positive rate of 2 .7% (110 cases) ,josamycin and doxycycline were sensitive;the positive rate of UU and M H was 2 .9% (118 cases) ,doxycycline and pyostacin were sensitive with the sensitive rates of 95 .77% and 95 .26% re‐spectively .Conclusion Mycoplasma has higher infection rate in the genitourinary tract among gynecological patients ,the results are similar between the hospital of TCM and Western medicine hospital ;UU is mainly Mycoplasma type;the drug susceptibility test re‐sults reveal that the empirical medication for anti‐mycoplasma infection can select doxycycline and josamycin;it is recommended that the combined therapy with syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine by combining with the drug sensitivity test re‐sults has better clinical efficacy .

Objective:To observe the effects of rosiglitazone on transforming growth factor-?1(TGF-?1)/SMADs signal pathway in dia- betic rat myoeardium(DM)and cardiac remodeling.
