Objective To explore the risk factors in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus with cerebral infarction. Methods Retrospective investigarion was performed on 148 elderly hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes.The patients were classified based on the presence or absence of cerebral infarction and compared with 60 controls.Logis- tic regression analysis was used to reveal the risk factors for cerebral infarction.Results The levels of systolic blood pressure(SBP),body mass index (BMI),fasting blood glucose (FBG),total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG) and plasma fibrinogen(Fg) were higher in the patients with cerebral infarction[141.15?17.46)mmHg,(23.81?3.53)kg/m~2,(8.82?2.81)mmol/L,(5.69?1.15)mmol/L,(2.08?0.75)mmol/L and (4.08?0.65)g/L] than those without cerebral infarction[(129.78?14.65) mmHg,(22.18?3.22)kg/m~2,(7.06?1.72 )mmol/L,(5.09?1.12)mmol/L,(1.62?0.43)mmol/L and (3.48?0.58)g/L].The logistic analysis showed COUR,SBP,FBG, TC,TG and Fg were the independent risk factors for cerebral infarction.Conclusion Early intervention of the inde- pendent risk factors including SBP,FBG,TC,TG and Fg in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes was important for reduction and postponement of cerebral infarction.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) exerts its biological functions by its specific VEGF receptors (VEGFR), which includes VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, VEGFR-3, neuropilin-1, and neuropilin-2. These VEGFR distributes in endothelial cells, and are also expressed in normal skin, inflammatory skin diseases, and skin cancers. The VEGF-VEGFR signaling pathway may be a new key target in the management of the skin diseases.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of fetal bovine serum (FBS) on expression of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in normal epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts.

METHODSKeratinocytes and fibroblasts were incubated with 10% FBS. PEDF protein level in the cells was determined by immunofluorescence and Western blot.

RESULTSPEDF was localized mostly in the cytoplasm,while some in the nuclei. The distribution of PEDF in cytoplasm was in a granular pattern. 10% FBS increased the expression of PEDF both in keratinocytes and fibroblasts,but histamine and Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) did not interfere the distribution of PEDF in cells.

CONCLUSION10% FBS can upregulate expression of PEDF in epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts.

OBJECTIVETo observe the changes in matrix metalloproteinase-2,7 (MMP-2,7) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) in deep partial thickness burn during the process of wound healing, and the effects of bFGF on wound healing.

METHODSThe rats inflicted by 30% TBSA deep partial thickness burn were randomly divided into simple scald and bFGF treatment groups. Biopsies from wound skin were harvested at 3 and 6PBHs and 1, 3, 7, 14 PBDs for the detection of the epithelialization rate and collagen content. The above indices were also detected in the skin of another 6 normal rats as normal control.

RESULTS(1) The epithelialization rate in bFGF treatment group was higher than that in simple scald group during 3PBH to 14 PBD. (2) The collagen contents in both bFGF treatment group and simple scald group were continually decreased during 3 PBH to 3 PBD, and increased from 7 to 14 PBD, but still lower than that in normal control (P < 0.05). (3) The expression of MMP-2,7 and TIMP-2 in simple scald group enhanced from 1 to 14 PBD, and peaked on 7 PBD. (4) The expression of MMP-2,7 in bFGF treatment group was similar to that in simple scald group from 3 to 6 PBH, while the expressions of MMP-2,7 and TIMP-2 was higher than those in simple scald group from 1 to 14 PBD.

CONCLUSIONThe collagen deposition would be affected by the activities of extracellular matrix in scald wound in rats. Changes in MMP-2,7 and TIMP-2 expressions were an important process of wound repair, which was closely related to the acceleration of wound healing by the application of bFGF.

The pathogenesis of psoriasis recently made great advancement due to the introduction of transgenic mouse model. K14-VEGF transgenic mouse showed many of the cellular and molecular features of psoriasis, including angiogenesis in dermis, altered epidermal proliferation and differentiation. Psoriasis of early onset and severe disease showed significantly increased frequency of the +405CC genotype and the C allele. Transgenic mice with keratinocytes expressing active Stat3 (K5. Stat3C mice) developed a skin phenotype closely resembling psoriasis. Stat 3 may link activated keratinocytes and immunocytes required for development of psoriasis. More recently, a novel mouse model with epidermal specific double-knockout of the c-Jun and JunB genes showed developments of psoriasis-like skin phenotype and arthritic lesions. All these data provided more profound understanding in pathogenesis and therapy of psoriasis.

AIMTo investigate whether if the Habenula is the main relay involved in the vasopressor effect induced by the stimulus of insular cortex, central-, lateral amygdaloid nucleus respectively.

METHODSElectrostimulation of the nuclei mention above respectively, and microinjection of lidocaine into Habenula unilaterally and bilaterally.

RESULTSWhen INS or CeA was stimulated, inducing an obvious increase of blood pressure. To stimulate INS or CeA after microinjecting lidocaine into Hb 5 minutes, the amplitudes of the vasopressor responses were decreased significantly, and the decrease of the bilaterally was larger (decreased value: 41.7% in INS, 46.1% in CeA) than that of unilaterally (decreased value: 36.9% in INS, 39.6% in CeA).

CONCLUSIONHabenula is one of the main relays involved in the vasopressor effects induced by the stimulus of insular cortex, central-, lateral amygdaloid nucleus.

Based on variation of Pinus massoniana families, heritablility and correlation analysis, the contents of shikimic acid and procyanidine (heritability 0.90, 0.70), dry weight of single branch (heritability 0.60) and and leaf length (heritability 0.46) were screened out as quality, yield and harvest cost traits of Folium Pini, respectively. For the different medicinal application of Folium Pini, varied methods were chosen to estimate weight and construct index equation. Weight adjustment based.on equal emphasis were used as economic weight determining method to select the best families, and the index (accuracy 0. 936 4 and heritability 0. 881 6) obtained was a little better than that obtained by equal emphasis, and much better than that by restricted index. The superior families selected with adjustment weight and equal emphasis were No. 46, 43 and 28. Partial regression were used as economic weight determining method to select the best families,and the index obtained had the highest accuracy (0.941 5) , index heritability (0. 889 9) and the genetic gain of shikimic acid content. The superior families selected with this method were No. 46, 27 and 47. No. 46 was the best families with maximal economic benefit. Our study indicated that suitable method for estimate weight and construct index equation can be applied for better accuracy of superior families selection of P. massoniana.

OBJECTIVETo determine the autocrine effect of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on epidermal keratinocytes HaCaT cells.

METHODSCultured HaCaT cells were treated with various concentrations of VEGF(165) (0,1,5,10,25,50,100 ng/ml) or Avastin (0,0.063,0.125,0.25,0.50,1.0,2.0 mg/ml) in vitro. HaCaT cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay and the cell migration was measured by migration assay. The effect of VEGF(165) (10 ng/ml) on phosphorylation of ERK1/2 was detected in HaCaT cells pretreated or not pretreated with Avastin (0.5 mg/ml).

RESULTSVEGF enhanced the proliferation and migration of HaCaT cells in a dose-dependent manner, while Avastin inhibited the effects of VEGF also in a dose-dependent manner. VEGF(165) (10 ng/ml) induced the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 in HaCaT cells,but which was blocked by Avastin (0.5 mg/ml).

Objective:To determine the prevalence and risk factors of asthma among adults. Methods:A total of 37 670 adults aged 18 years and above was enrolled in Songjiang District， Shanghai using a multi-stage stratified sampling method between April 2016 and October 2017. Statistical analysis， such as t-test and Chi-square test， was performed to check the difference between the participants with asthma and non-asthma participants. Risk factors for asthma were examined by logistic regression analysis in all participants. Results:Overall， 36 698 subjects were enrolled in the study， in which 752 had asthma. The overall prevalence of asthma was determined to be 2.05%. The prevalence in females was 2.16%， and that in males was 1.88%， which didn’t achieve significance（P>0.05）. Compared to non-asthma participants， those with asthma were more likely to be older （［60.3±9.48］ years vs. ［56.29±11.31］ years）， widowed （6.91%>4.45%，P<0.05）， with educational level of primary school and below （58.64%>46.55%， P<0.01）， higher level of total cholesterol （TC） and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C） （P<0.05）， had more co-morbidities， such as hypertension （42.00%>15.00%，P<0.001）， chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） （6.25%>0.41%，P<0.001）， chronic bronchitis （51.33%>6.32%，P<0.001） and tuberculosis （2.66%>0.96%，P<0.05）， depression（2.13%>0.41%，P<0.05）， and Parkinson's disease （0.93%>0.39%，P<0.05）. Multivariable analysis showed that family history of asthma， history of hypertension， chronic bronchitis， COPD， depression and educational level of primary school and below were the risks factors associated with adult asthma （P<0.05）. Conclusion:Prevalence of adult asthma in Shanghai has increased in recent years. Targeted health education may be strengthened for improving adult awareness towards asthma and reducing the disease burden.
