This paper analyzes the distribution and achievements of the Science Foundation for Youth undertaken by female scientists at Peking University Health Science Center from 2002 to 2012.It reveals the importance of the Science Foundation for Youth in the development of female scientists.

Recently the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has put forward some measures to promote the development of women science and technology (S&T) talents.The paper analyzes the NSFC funded projects undertaken by women S&T researchers at Pekiing University Health Science Center from 2006 to 2010.To address the problems revealed in the analysis,the paper proposes the suggestions to further develop women S&T talents with the support of National Science Foundation of China.

[Summary] Gender difference study of meniscus injury shows certain clinical significance in understanding epidemiologic characteristics of meniscus injury .Several large amount case studies demonstrated that the risk of meniscus tears was significantly higher in male than in female .However , in certain kinds of sports and special types or locations of meniscus tears , especially in medial meniscus posterior root tear ( MMPRT ) , there were more females than males .Further large amount case studies were needed for a deeper understanding of meniscus tears .In this paper,we reviewed the current situation and progress of gender difference of menisus tear .

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine gland malignanct tumor. Numerous studies have found that the content of peripheral blood circulating RNA in various cancer types is aberrantly expressed, which could be a potential biological diagnostic marker and therapeutic target. Tissue-speciifc messenger RNA has a dysregulated expression and may be used for the diagnosis and residual/metastatic detection of thyroid cancer. Recent studies have showed that non-coding RNA (ncRNA) could act as oncogene or tumor suppressor gene in bacteria, fungi and mam-mals. It plays a regulatory role in occurrence and development of tumors and stably exists in peripheral blood. It is hopeful that it will become a new marker for diagnosis of tumors. This review introduces some latest research progress on circulating RNA associated with thyroid cancer; and emphatically discuss the role of mRNA, microRNA (miRNA), long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and circular RNA (circRNA) in thyroid tumorigenesis and metastasis.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of atorvastatin combined with valsartan on efficacy,safety and related indi-cators in patients with chronic nephritis. METHODS:86 patients with chronic nephritis were randomly divided into control group (43 cases)and observation group(43 cases). All patients were given low-salt,low-protein and high-quality diet with protein intake of 0.8 g/(kg·d),appropriately given Cyclophosphamide tablet,Prednisone tablet,Penicillin V potassium tablet and other conven-tional treatment. Based on it,control group was given 160 mg valsartan,once a day in early morning. Observation group was addi-tionally given 20 mg atorvastatin,once a day before bedtime. They were treated for 6 months. Clinical efficacy,24 h protein amount (24 h pro),serum creatinine (Scr),blood urea nitrogen (BUN),glomerular filtration rate (GFR),C-reactive protein (CRP),total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG ),low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) in 2 groups were observed,and incidence of adverse reactions was followed-up for 9 months. RESULTS:The total effective rate in ob-servation group was significantly higher than control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in 24 h pro,Scr,BUN,GFR,CRP,TC,TG,LDL and HDL between 2 groups(P>0.05). After treatment,24 h pro,Scr,BUN and CRP in 2 groups were significantly lower than before,and observation group was lower than control group,GFR was significantly higher than before,and observation group was higher than control group,the differenc-es were statistically significant(P<0.05). TC and LDL in 2 groups were significantly lower than before,HDL was higher than be-fore,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);but there were no significant differences in the TG between 2 groups and before and after treatment(P>0.05). And there was no significant differences in the incidence of adverse reactions between 2 groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Based on the conventional treatment,the efficacy of atorvastatin combined with valsartan is superior to valsartan alone in the treatment of chronic nephritis,and it can significantly improve renal functions,with similar short-term safety.

Objective To study Evaluation of serum soluble ST2 protein and brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP)in patients with acute heart failure and prognosis of patients with acute heart failure.Methods Fifty cases patients with acute heart failure from April 2014 to April 2015 in the First Hospital of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Beijing were researched.Detection of all patients with serum ST2,NT-proBNP,50 patients with acute heart failure were divided into heart failure group,50 healthy persons were selected as the control group.The control group and the observation group general heart failure data,the observation group and the control group of cardiac biomarker blood level,cardiac function level NT-proBNP blood concentration level,classification of cardiac function between ST2 blood concentration level were compared.Results Cr,BUN of heart failure group were higher than the control group,there was no significant difference between other indicators(P＞0.05).ST2((0.46±0.07)ng/L)in heart failure group was lower than the control group((0.66±0.20)ng/L),NT-proBNP((4160.20±57.49)ng/L)was higher than the control group((58.97±4.39)ng/L),heart function IV NT-proBNP blood concentration of the highest(9 428.29±75.93)ng/L,followed by grade III(1 921.01±30.27)ng/L,the second lowest(321.02±16.80)ng/L,(P＜0.01).Heart function IV level ST2 blood concentration was the highest(1.95±0.69)ng/L,followed by grade III(1.27±0.61)ng/L,class II minimum(0.78±0.24)ng/L(P＜0.01).Conclusion The serum ST2 and NT-proBNP are used to detect the patients with acute heart failure,can provide accurate diagnosis basis,has a very important value judgment on the classification and prognosis.

Sepsis refers to the infection caused by systemic inflammatory response syndrome.Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death in critically ill patients in the ICU and its morbidity and mortality are increasing year by year globally.According to statistics,in China,the incidence of sepsis in ICU is 8.68％ and the mortality rate can be as high as 44.7％,therefore,severe sepsis in the field of medicine to become one of the problems to be overcome.MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of sepsis through the TLRs / NF-κB signaling pathways,which play an important role in immune regulation.In this review,the progress of miRNAs involved in TLRs signaling pathway in sepsis is reviewed.

Objective To investigate the value of three-dimensional color power angio(3D-CPA)in the prenatal diagnosis of pernicious placenta previa (PPP ) with placenta increta.Methods The ultrasonographic findings of PPP with placenta increta diagnosed in our hospital by 2D-CDFI and 3D-CPA were reviewed and compared with pathologic histology examination.For each of the two imaging methods, sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value and prenatal diagnose accordance rate were summarized. Results For 3D-CPA,sensitivity,specificity and positive predictive value were 91.1%,88.9% and 93.3%, respectively.The results of 3D-CPA were higher than those in 2D-CDFI (sensitivity 76.4%,specificity 66.7%,positive predictive value 81.5% ),and were statistically significant (P <0.05 ).The diagnose accordance rate of 3D-CPA was statistically higher than that of 2D-CDFI (90.4% vs 73.0%;P <0.05). Conclusions 3D-CPA can display abnormal vascular reconstruction between the placenta and uterine wall from various angles,and is more accurate than 2D-CDFI.3D-CPA plays an important role in the prenatal diagnosis of PPP with placenta increta.

Objective To investigate the plasma PAF-AH level in type 1 diabetes patients and the association between the PAF-AH gene polymorphism and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methods Plasma PAF-AH in115 type 1 diabetes patients and 106 controls were determined by PAF-AH assay kit, and PAF-AH gene G275A genotypes were detected by PCR-RLFP. Results The activity of plasma PAF-AH in the patients with type 1 diabetes was significantly lower than that in the controls. Compared with control group, the frequencies of the GA genotype on G275A polymorphism were significantly higher than that in T1DM group. Conclusion The activity of plasma PAF-AH in the patients with type 1 diabetes was significantly lower than that in normal controls. The G275A polymorphism of PAF-AH gene might be related to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
