Background Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) can quantitatively analyze some ocular parameters in vivo.Although human ocular parameters have been obtained by SD-OCT,few studies were performed in animal experiment.Objective This study was to investigate the anterior and posterior segment parameters of C57BL/6 mice and pigmented rabbits using SD-OCT in vivo.Methods Some anterior and posterior segment ocular parameters,including the central corneal thickness (CCT),anterior chamber depth (ACD),white-to-white (WTW),optic nerve head (ONH) depth/width and retinal thickness,were measured in 8 eyes of 4 health SPF C57BL/6 mice and 12 eyes of 6 health SPF pigmented rabbits using SD-OCT.Results For C57BL/6 mice,Cornea,iris,lens in pupil area were clearly exhibited by SD-OCT.Mean CCT,ACD and WTW were (96±9)μm,(460±8) μm and (2.86 ± 0.41) mm pre-mydriasis,respectively,the corresponding values of post-mydriasis were (96±8) μm,(356±20)μm and (2.87±0.62)mm.There were no statistical differences of CCT and WTW between pre-and post-mydriasis (t =0.478,P =0.647 ; t =-0.737,P =0.485).ACD of post-mydriasis was significantly shallower than that of baseline (t =-13.022,P＜0.001).For the pigmented rabbits,the thickness of corneal thinnest point,retinal thickness,ONH depth and width were (370 ± 10) μm,(175 ± 4) μm,(1.35 ± 0.51) mm and (4.52±0.82) mm,respectively.Conclusions As a non-contact and non-invasive technology,SD-OCT can provide not only high resolution cross-sectional ocular images,but also high precise quantitative parameters for both C57BL/6 mouse and pigmented rabbit in vivo.

Objective To evaluate the effects of hydroxyapatite (HA) extensively-coated prosthesis on elderly patients undergoing hip arthroplasty.Methods From February 1997 to May 1999,96 patients Were treated with hydroxyapatite (HA) coated prosthesis and followed up for their hip arthroplasty.Their results were studied clinically and roentgengraphically to evaluate chiefly their Harris scores,complications and thigh pain.The survival of prosthesis was evaluated according to Kaplan-Meier methods.Results The 60 cases were followed up for eight years on average(range,sevon to nine years).Their mean Harris scores were improved from 42 preoperatively to 90 postoperatively.Fifty-eihgt cases felt no pain at their hip,but two did at their thigh.No radiolucent lines were observed.All the prostheses achieved bony stabilization and remolding.Conclusions HA coated prosthesis can achieve fine fixation,because it helps bone conduction,resists axial force and torsion,and reduces operative risks.

Objective To explore the risk factors and protective factors for stomach cancer in Ganyu county.Methods Data of 319 pairs of new stomach cancer cases and health controls(1:1 matched)were studied by conditional Logistic regression method on the influential factors.Results The main risk factors for stomach cancer were the habits of eating hot foods(OR= 2.21,95%CI:1.57～3.12),the history of upper gastrointestinal inflammation(4.26,2.59～7.03),family history of cancer(2.29, 1.37～3.82);The main protective factors were often eating raw garlic(OR=0.64,95%CI:0.42～0.96),regular drinking tea(0.37, 0.25～0.54).Conclusion Unhealthy dietary habits,the history of upper gastrointestinal inflammation and family history of cancer are related to stomach cancer,while eating raw garlic and regular drinking tea may be effective in preventing the occurrence of stomach cancer.The results could be applied in stomach cancer prevention activities in Ganyu county.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of An-pressing manipulation in improving post-stroke muscle spasticity, by observing the changes of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine (Gly) in plasma and gray matter of L1-L3 spinal cord anterior horn in post-stroke rats with muscle spasticity after An-pressing manipulation intervention. Methods: Ten of 80 adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly selected as the blank group, and the remaining 70 were used for modeling. The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model was established by insertion suture occlusion method in the left external carotid artery. Thirty rats with a Longa neurological score of 2-3 points and a modified Ashworth spasticity scale score of 1-, 1+, or 2 were included in the experiment. Using the random number table method, the 30 successfully modeled rats were randomly divided into a model group, an An-pressing tendon group and an An-pressing muscle belly group. Two days after modeling, rats in the An-pressing tendon group and An-pressing muscle belly group received An-pressing manipulation on the tendon and belly of quadriceps femoris muscle respectively, with the pressure of (350±50) g and the frequency of 5 s/time, 15 min per session, once a day for 5 continuous days. After the 5th treatment, the tension of the rat quadriceps femoris muscle was evaluated using the modified Ashworth spasticity scale. The Gly levels in rat plasma and L1-L3 segments of spinal cord were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The GABA levels in rat plasma and L1-L3 segments of spinal cord were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Results: The decrease in rat muscle tension scored by the modified Ashworth spasticity scale in the An-pressing tendon group was more significant than that in the An-pressing muscle belly group (P<0.01); the increases in Gly and GABA levels in the rat plasma and L1-L3 segments of spinal cord were more significant in the An-pressing tendon group than those in the An-pressing muscle belly group (all P<0.01). Conclusion: Based on the theory of 'anti-stretch reflex' of tendon organs, the use of An-pressing manipulation to induce the 'anti-stretch reflex' by stimulating the tendon organs can improve the muscle spasticity of rats, which is better than An-pressing the muscle belly. Increased levels of Gly and GABA in rat plasma and L1-L3 segments of spinalcord may be one mechanism of An-pressing manipulation to improve muscle spasticity by stimulating tendon organs.

Aim To evaluate the effects of pantoprazole on various experimental acute ulcer inrats and mice. Methods The model of a gastric ulcer of rats or mice was caused bystree- induced ulcer and ligatel pylurus-induced ulcer. Results & Conclusions At adose of 5, 10, 20 mg? kg-1 of Pantoprazole can markedly decrease the ulcer index ofstree-induced ulcer. Pantoprazole(4, 8, 16 mg? kg -1 ) significantly decrease the areaof ligated pylorus-induced gastric ulcer. It was also found that pantoprazole caninhibit the output of basic gastric acid.

Objective To analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of non-iodized salt at household level based on geographic information system (GIS) in Chongqing.Methods The database of non-iodized salt at county level from 2001 to 2010 was established in Chongqing.By using GIS technology,the spatial distribution and spatial autocorrelation were analyzed by ArcGIS 9.3 software.Results The rate of non-iodized salt was fluctuated between 2.35％-5.78％ during 2001-2006 and the rate was reduced to less than 2.00％ after 2007.The result of spatial autocorrelation analysis on non-iodized salt from 2001 to 2006 indicated that Moran's Ⅰindex was 0.145578,0.078801,0.108033,0.091957,0.127749,0.214302,respectively(Z value was 3.066275,1.977321,2.541619,2.309972,2.900446,3.874203,respectively,all P ＜ 0.05).The spatial distribution of non-iodized salt had marked spatial cluster through Chongqing region from 2001 to 2006.The result of local spatial autocorrelation analysis from 2001 to 2006 indicated that Fengdu and Fuling were two high-risk areas(all P ＜ 0.05).Dianjiang,Yubei,Jiangbei,Wulong and Banan were also confirmed as high-risk areas in 2001,2005 and 2006(all P ＜ 0.05).The results also indicated that the distribution of non-iodized salt in the seven high-risk areas was positively correlated.The result of spatial autocorrelation analysis on non-iodized salt from 2007 to 2010 indicated that Moran's Ⅰ index was 0.018361,0.016186,0.040769,-0.059691,respectively (Z value was 1.093310,0.787361,1.071811,-0.583820,respectively,all P ＞ 0.05).The spatial distribution of non-iodized salt was at random on the whole from 2007 to 2010.However,there were four local high-risk areas.The distribution in Fengdu and Dianjiang was positively correlated,while that in Jiangjin and Shizhu was negatively correlated.Conclusions The distribution of non-iodized salt at households level in Chongqing is changed from spatial distribution before 2006 to random distribution after 2007,but there are high value areas,which should be taken as the focus of monitoring.

Objective To determine the relationship of the expression of aquaporin 5 (AQP5)with clinicopathology and prognosis of colorectal cancer.Methods We collected data from 45 patients with primary colorectal cancer without any adjuvant therapy before operation.The expression of AQP5 was measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC).Then we analyzed the correlation between AQP5 expression and clinicopathological parameters (including age,tumor size,clinical staging,tumor location,lymph node and pathological type)and the connection between AQP5 expression and prognosis based on follow-up data.Results Of the 45 tumor specimens,14 (31.1%)had a high level of AQP5 expression,29 (64.4%)exhibited a moderate level of staining,and 2 (4.4%)had an absence of AQP5 staining.AQP5 was only occasionally detected in para-neoplastic [3/45 (6.67%)]and normal tissues [3/45 (6.67%)].The overexpression of AQP5 was also positively associated with TNM stage (P =0.002),lymph node metastasis (P =0.01 6),and distant metastasis (P =0.000).However,it had no significant association with age, gender,histologic grade or tumor size (P > 0.05 ).Conclusion AQP5 may be used as a novel biomarker for predicting the prognosis of colorectal cancer.

Objective To explore the effect of community comprehensive intervention on stroke-prevention-related knowledge, belief and behavior of hypertensive patients. Methods The community-based comprehensive interventions were done to 77 hypertensive patients, with the measures including archives establishment, hypertension-phased management, regular follow-up and multi-mode health education. The stroke-prevention-related knowledge, belief and behavior of them were assessed by the stroke-preventing knowledge questionnaire (SPKQ), champion′s health belief model scale (CHBMS) and (stroke-prevention behavior questionnaire,SPBQ) before and after the intervention. Results Their knowledge on daily-life and pre-stroke symptoms and part of their behaviors (health duty, physical exercises and stress management after the intervention were superior, as compared to the pre-intervention (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in other stroke-related knowledge and behaviors and health belief in comparison of the pre-and post-intervention (P>0.05). Conclusion The community-based intervention can improve parts of stroke prevention knowledge and health behavior among hypertensive patients. The intervention needs to be modified based on ecological models of health promotion and health belief model.

Objective To investigate the influences of UVA on the secretion and expression of chemokine CXCL11/I-TAC by HaCaT cells induced by interferon γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). Methods HaCaT cells were cultured in the presence of IFN-7 and TNF-a and irradiated with UVA of 2, 4 and 8 J/cm~2, respectively; those cells receiving neither treatment with IFN-γ or TNF-α nor UVA irradiation served as the negative control, and those receiving only cytokine treatment but no irradiation as the positive control. After another 24-hour culture, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect the protein levels of CXCL11/I-TAC in the supernatant of HaCaT celb, real time PCR to measure the mRNA expression of CXCL11/I-TAC in these HaCaT cells. Results As far as the negative control HaCaT cells were concerned, there was a minor secretion of CXCL11/I-TAC protein and expression of CXCL11/I-TAC mRNA. After treatment with IFN-7 and TNF-a of 10 μg/L, the protein and mRNA expressions of CXCL11/ I-TAC were synergistically upregulated, whereas the induced secretion and expression of CXCL11/I-TAC by HaCaT cells were dose-dependently inhibited by UVA irradiation. Conclusions UVA irradiation inhibits the secretion and expression of CXCL11/I-TAC by HaCaT cells, which in turn suppresses the chemotaxis of Th1/ Tel cells in some degree.
