Objective To observe the effects of standardized three stage rehabilitation treatment on the neu- rological deficit scores (NDS) and ADL performance of ischemic stroke patients.Methods A total of 164 ischemic stroke patients were recruited and randomly divided into a rehabilitation group and a control group.The neurological function and ADL performance of the patients were assessed by using NDS and Modified Barthcl Index (MBI) at the admission,at the end of 1st,3rd and 6th months post stroke.Results No significant differences were found be- tween the rehabilitative and the control groups with regard to NDS and MBI at admission.The NDS demonstrated a decreasing tendency,while the MBI score an increasing tendency in both groups.In the control group,significant difference of NDS was found between admission and the end of 1st month as well as between the end of the 1 st and the 3rd months.In rehabilitation group,significant difference was revealed between all the time points with regard to NDS and MBI scores.At the end of the 1st,3rd and 6th months,the MBI scores of the rehabilitation group were signifi- cantly higher than those of the control group,indicating that the ADL performance of those treated with standardized three-stage rehabilitation protocol was improved quicker than those without the protocol.Conclusion Standardized three-stage rehabilitation treatment could improve the neurological function and ADL performance of the ischemic stroke patients.

Objective To investigate the clinical results of minimal invasion spinal surgery (MISS) in treating tibial plateau fractures to provide best procedure for such treatment.Methods The study involved 36 cases with tibial plateau fractures resulted from traffic injury,fall-from-height injury and strain injury including 24 males and 12 females at age of 19-65 years (average 42.6 years).According to Schatzker classification,there were seven cases of typeⅠ,five typeⅡ,five typeⅢ,five type IV,sev- en typeⅤand seven typeⅥ.All cases were treated by different methods of MISS.Results Follow up for 8-24 months in 35 cases showed fracture healing within 3-4 months,without severe complications such as poor wound healing,infection or osteofascial compartment syndrome.Meanwhile,no traumatic knee osteoarthritis,inversion or eversion of the knee were found.The mean range of knee motion was 94?,with fine knee function in 32 cases (91.4%) according to Merchant score.Conclusions Treatment of tibi- al plateau fractures should adopt limit incision,indirect reduction and biofixation to take place widespread exposure and rigid plate fixation.MISS is safe and effective for tibial plateau fractures.

The in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer technique has been widely applied in human insemination. The rate of successful insemination is gradual y rising, and the in-vitro fertilization directly determine the insemination outcome.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the difference between the two common using insemination methods, microdrop and open, in in-vitro fertilization and embryo development.
METHODS:A randomized study was conducted to compare microdrop and open insemination methods among non-male factor patients undergoing in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. A total of 1 175 cases were enrol ed in the research. There were 573 cases in the microdrop group, and 602 cases in open insemination group. The fertilization rate and embryo development in the two groups were compared.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The fertilization failure rate [total fertilization failure rate+low fertilization rate (<25%oocytes fertilized)] in the microdrop insemination group was higher than in the open insemination group (11.9%, 3.3%, P<0.001), while the good quality embryo rate and pregnancy rate did not differ significantly between the two groups (al P>0.05). The open insemination method is a simple insemination method with a lower fertilization failure rate. As the fertilization is a highly complicated process involving many extrinsic and intrinsic factors, further study is needed to confirm the effects of the two insemination methods on in-vitro fertilization outcome.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects and action mechanism of electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment on rats with transient cerebral ischemia/reperfusion.

METHODSA total of 144 healthy SD male rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group (group S), an ischemia/reperfusion group (group I/R) and an EA pretreatment group (group EA), 48 rats in each one. The model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion was established by using 4-vessel occlusion method in the group I/R; after 5 min of cerebral ischemia, the reperfusion was performed. The group EA was treated with EA at "Dazhui" (GV 14) and "Baihui" (GV 20) 5 days before model establishment, 30 min per time, once a day. In group S, bilateral foramen alares were exposed without burning on the vertebral arteries, and bilateral common carotid arteries were unfolded and not occluded. The rats in the group I/R and group EA were sacrificed 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h after reperfusion and those in the group S were sacrificed at corresponding time to collect hippocampus example. The Western-blot method was used to measure the expression of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP 78), and HE staining method was used to count the number of surviving neurons, and TUNEL method was used to measure the number of apoptotic neurons.

RESULTSCompare with the group S, the number of surviving neurons in hippocampus was reduced at each reperfusion time point and the number of apoptotic neurons was increased (all P<0.05) in the group I/R and the group EA; the expression of GRP 78 at each reperfusion time point in group I/R and group EA was increased (P<0.05). Compared with the group I/R, the number of surviving neurons in hippocampus was increased at each reperfusion time point and the number of apoptotic neurons was reduced in the group EA (P<0.05); the expression of GRP 78 at each reperfusion time point was further increased (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe electroacupuncture pretreatment has obvious cerebral protection on rats with ischemia/reperfusion, which is related with further increasing the expression of GRP 78 in ischemia area, leading to relieved endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Objective To determine the extent and distribution of error in knee joint proprioception and e- valuate the relationship between knee joint proprioception and pain and dysfunction.Methods Twenty-eight knee OA patients (19 female and 9 male) were compared with 27 age-matched healthy adults (20 female and 7 male). To compare the microcalorimetric fingerprint profiles of Lonicerae japonicae Flos (Lj.F) and Lonicerae Flos (L.F), microcalormietry was applied to find the heat change regularity of Bacillus shigae (B. shigae) metabolism affected by Lj.F and L.F (we choose Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz in this paper) with different concentrations. The thermogenic curves and thermodynamics parameters were investigated as evaluation index, and then the date of experiment was studied by similarity analysis. All the results indicated that the Lj.F and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz (L.m.H-M) significantly impacted the microbial growth and had good similarity in its inhibitory activities. The combination approach of chemical analysis with bioassay was developed and employed to ensure the safety and efficacy of Chinese herbal medicines.

OBJECTIVETo introduce the operation indication, operation fashion, operation time, mainipulation point, and treatment effect of pelvic ring disruptions with percutaneous fixation.

METHODSFifty-eight patients with pelvic ring disruptions were treated with sacroiliac screws, pubic ramus screws or pubic tubercle screws and iliac wing screws, and the effects was evaluated.

RESULTSAmong the 58 patients, the result of reductions in 52 cases was satisfied, 6 cases was dissatisfied; fracture point in 57 cases was healed up, 1 case disconnect; vessel and nerve was not injured in 56 cases, S(1) nerve root was injured in 2 case, bequeathing anaesthesia of lower limbs and saddle area.

CONCLUSIONSThe technique with percutaneous fixations is minitraumatic and reliable to fix the pelvic ring disruptions with little bleeding. These percutaneous techniques have a good outlook. Bone tractions with big weight before operation make for reductions in operation.

To separate and identify chemical signals which induce Thesium chinense haustorium formation, the components of T. chinense roots secretion collected with XAD-4 resin were detected by GC-MS. The effect of DMBQ as exogenous signals to induce haustorium formation in T. chinense was studied. Fifty-three compounds of 9 types had been detected, including hydrocarbons, esters, organic acids, ketones, alcohols, nitrogen containing compounds, phenolic acids, aldehyde and quinine. It is worth noting that the 2, 5-di-tert-butyl-1,4-benzoquinone has the core structure of 1,4-benzoquinone, which may play an important role in the parasitic relationship of Prunella vulgaris and T. chinense: DMBQ worked effectively on inducing haustoria, but induction effects vary widely in different concentrations. DMBQ with the concentration of 1 μmol x L(-1) showed the best effect of the inducing ability with a ratio of 110.52 when treated to induce haustoria.
