Objective In order to offer scientific evidence for prevention and therapy of Lyme disease, we had investigated the natural infection of lyme disease Borrelia burgdorferi(Bb) of 4 ticks in Diebu and Huajian areas of Gansu province. MethodsEpidemiology detection of natural infection of lyme disease Bb was accomplished for four dominant tick ( Dermacetor silvarum , Dermacentor nuttalli , Haemaphysalis Japonica and Ixodes Crenulatus ) at Diebu, Diebu forest zone(Qin mountain), north of Min Mountains of Huajian region and Huajian forest zone, north of Qilian Mountains of Sunan region, Gansu, from March to June, 2010. The methods of dispersion of clamp every 10 m which was put in the morning and retrieved at night were used to capture rodent animal and gnawer retrorse hair inspection insect methods were used to collect parasitic tick. Flagging methods were used to collect free tick.Four kinds of live adult ticks were dissected after cleaning and disinfection. Intestinal contents were smeared, lyme disease Bb was observed under dark-field microscope. Etiological agent was cultivated and separated. Separated spirochete was confirmed by spirochete monoclonal and polyclonal antibody. Results The ticks collected were classified as 2 families, 8 genera, 36 species, i.e. Ixodidae 6 genera, 33 species and Argasidae 2 genera, 3 species. The method of dark-field microscope was used to detect the lyme disease spirochete in 201 ticks intestines after dissection of Dermacentor silvarum, Dermacentor nuttalli, Haemaphysalis Japonica and Ixodes Crenulatus, the lyme disease Bb-positive were 25 with positive rate of 12.44％(25/201). The lyme disease Bb was cultivated and separated from 12 ticks with the positive rate of 18.46％(12/65) after inoculation and cultivation of 3 species, 65 ticks of Dermacentor silvarum, Dermacentor nuttalli and Haemaphysalis Japonica. ConclusionsDermacentor silvarum,Dermacentor nuttalli and Haemaphysalis Japonica have different degrees of natural infection of lyme disease Bb.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical application of pedicled superficial circumflex iliac artery (SCIA) flaps in Burns and Plastic Surgery.

METHODS19 cases with skin and soft tissue defects were repaired with the Superficial circumflex iliac artery flaps. The defects located in the hand and forearm, the lower abdomen and perineal area, the radicle area of thigh, etc. Before the SCIA flaps were transfered to the recipient areas, 15 cases with different kinds of wounds were debrided thoroughly, 3 cases with scar were removed directly. The size of the flaps ranged from 3.0 cm x 4.5 cm to 26.0 cm x 22.0 cm, and the pedical was 5 cm to 7 cm in length.

RESULTSThe flaps in the 18 cases survived completely. Skin necrosis in the distal end of the flap appeared in 1 case, and the wound healed after the second repair. The follow-up period rang from 3 to 18 months. The apperance and function of the hand or foot was satisfactory.

CONCLUSIONSBecause the pedicled SCIA flaps can be obtain conveniently and contain sufficient blood-supply, so the flap is easy to survive and the flap can be designed in a large size. We believe it is an ideal method to use this flap to repair skin and soft tissue defects located in hands, forearms, the lower abdomen and perineal areas, the radicle area of thigh and so on.

A new organic-soluble co-reactant of N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(propyl)-pentanediamine (TPPD) was synthesized and co-immobilized with tris ( 2, 2’-bipyridine ) ruthenium ditetrakis ( 4-chlorophenyl ) borate ([Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2) on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for electrochemiluminescent (ECL) study. The hydrophobicity of TPPD prevented its leakage from the electrode surface, thus the long-term stability of the ECL electrode was enhanced. The TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode exhibited strong, stable and reproducible ECL signal. The ECL signal could be quenched efficiently by phenol with a quenching efficiency of 95. 4% in the presence of 0. 1 mmol/L phenol, demonstrating the potential of the modified electrode in determination of phenolic compounds. The transient-state of the electrogenerated chemiluminescence reaction was also investigated, which revealed that the TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode had a longer lifetime than conventional TPA-Ru(bpy)2+3 co-reactant system.

Objective To investigate prognostic factors for bloodstream infection in adult patients. Methods Clinical data of 131 adult patients with positive blood cultures during January 2002 to December 2003 in the Hospital were collected and 91 cases of them were retrospectively analyzed to understand their pathogen species and prognostic factors for it.Results Blood samples from 91 patients were cultured positive,53 cases(58.2%)with gram-negative bacteria mainly including Escherichia coli,Salmonella spp. and Klebsiella pneumoniae,28(30.8%)with gram-positive bacteria,mainly including Staphylococcus aureus and coagnlase-negative Staphylococci,eight(8.8%)with fungi and two(2.2%)with multiple infections.Case fatality ratio in this group of patients with septicemia was 30.8% during their hospitalization,and that in those with Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Staphylococcus aureus,Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and E.coli with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase was over 50%.Case fatality ratio was associated with severity of sepsis(OR=1.15)and inappropriately initial empirical treatment with antibiotics (OR=6.77).Conclusions Pathogen causing bloodstream infection in adults were mainly gram-negative bacteria and severity of infection and inappropriate initial antibiotics treatment could increase their fatality.

Objective To observe the influence of weight - lost therapy on obese children with impaired glucose tolerance( IGT), insulin resistance. Methods Fasting,post- prandail 2 hours blood glucose and insulin were measured in 14 obese children (age 8 - 15 years) with IGT before and after two - month weight - lost iherapy. Glucose were measured with enzymeoxidize assay, and insulin were measured with radio-immunity assay(RIA). Results Among 14 obese children with IGT, after two-month weight - lost the-rapy, there were 9 children becoming normal OGTT. There were significantly lower in the concentration of fasting insulin and post - prandail 2 hours blood insulin and glucose[(14.23?2.35) mIU/L,(47.20?10.26) mIU/L,(5.36?0.91) mmol/L] than before weight -lost therapy[ (32.54?7. 13) mIU/L,( 164.53?33.60) mIU/L, (8.75?1.09) mmol/L](P

Objective To analyze the ABCD1 gene mutations in 5 cases of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy(X-ALD) patients and 2 cases of their mothers.Methods Of 5 patients with X-ALD,10 exons and flanking intronic sequences of ABCD1 gene were amplified by polyme-rase chain reaction,and then sequenced directly.The outcomes were compared with normal ABCD1 sequencings to identify the mutation type and site.Thirty normal men were examined in the mean time as control for the confirmation of mutations and gene polymorphisms.Results Three patients showed ABCD1 gene mutations,1 had a point mutation in exon 6,Arg518Gly(CGG→GGG);2 patients showed the same novel mutation in exon 1 with 8 bases deletion(134del8).Four gene polymorphisms were identified in exon 7.They were Gly551X(GGC→GGT),Arg554His(CGT→CAT),Gln567Arg(CAA→CGA) and Val582Ile(GTC→ATC).ABCD1 gene mutation was not found in 2 mothers from 2 unrelated fa-milies with X-ALD.Conclusions Three cases of 5 were detected for ABCD1 gene mutations.Between them,the 134del8 mutation is a novel one.Four new gene polymorphisms were detected in exon 7 in normal Chinese people,which were Gly551X,Arg554His,Gln567Arg and Val582Ile.

AIM: To investigate the efficacy of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and taurine (Tau) in preventing hyperoxia-induced the lens opacification and the changes of biochemical parameters on organ cultured rabbit lenses.METHODS: Twenty-four lenses from adult rabbits were divided into the control group, the hyperoxia-exposed group, the hyperoxia-exposed group containing 20mmol/L of NAC, the hyperoxia-exposed group containing 80mmol/L of Tau, respectively. The treated groups incubated with hyperoxia ( pO2>80%) for 4 hours per day throughout a 7-day period. Lens transparency, histology and enzymatic activities measurements were determined after this incubation.RESULTS: Gross morphological examination of these lenses revealed some severe cortical opacification in the hyperoxia-exposed group, moderate cortical opacification in the control group and the Tau treated group. There was minimal cortical opacification in the NAC treated group. The glutathione (GSH) content and the activity of Na, K-ATPase were significantly decreased in the hyperoxia-exposed group than that of the control group, by 37.8% (P<0.05) and 53.5% (P<0.05), respectively. However, they were increased in the two treated groups, especially in the NAC treated group. There were no significant differences in the water-soluble protein content and the catalase and GSH reductase activities in all group lenses.CONCLUSION: Hyperoxia can induce the cortical opaci-fication in the lens. The role of NAC in the prevention of hyperoxia-induced cataract is superior to Tau.
