Mean flow rate (MFR) ,vocal intensity (I) ,pitch frequency(P) ,pitch perturbation (PP) and vocal efficiency (I/F) were measured simutaneously during sustained phonation of the vowel [i] at wide range levels of intensities in 158 nor mal subjects and the same parameters were measured at moderate vocal intensity level in 136 patients with various kinds of laryngeal diseases. PP indicates the amount of irregular vibration of vocal folds and I/F represents efficient transition from MFR to acoustic energy. When phonation at different intensities ,MFR,P and I/F increase but PP decreases when I increases. At moderate intensity phonation, there are positive correlations between MFR and I,and between I and P but negative correlation between MFR and I/F,between I(male) and PP,and between P(fe-male) and PP.Most of the patients with laryngeal diseases showed higher MFR and PP but lower I/F than normal subjects.MFR, PP and I/F could be used as objective and quantitative parameters with I and P as reference parameters in assessing laryngeal function of phonation.

Acid/base mutants of glycosidases, namely thioglycoligases, are able to catalyze thioglycosides synthesis. Now, many thioglycoligases, including ?-thioglucoligase, ?-thiomannoligase, ?-thiogalactoligase, ?-thioxyloligase and ?-thioglucoligase, have been developed from bacteria and archaebacteria, and applied in synthesizing various thioglycoligases. Recently, thioglycoligases have been used to glycosylate the glycoprotein and firstly generate the thioglycoprotein. The novel extended synthetic function of glycosidases would promote the development of glycobiology, biotechnology and pharmacy.

Purpose To detect the expression of insulin-like growth factor-ⅡmRNA-binding protein 3 (IMP3) in preeclampsia (PE) placentas. Methods The levels of IMP3 expression were measured using immunohistochemistry in 8 cases of mild PE, 41 cases of se-vere PE, 6 cases of fetal growth restrict ( FGR) without PE and 22 cases of normal late trimester of pregnancy placentas. Results Compared with normal late trimester of pregnancy, the expression of IMP3 was obviously decreased in severe PE placenta ( Z =-2. 063,P<0. 05), decreased in mild PE (Z= -1. 31,P>0. 05). The expression of IMP3 in severe PE placenta was lower than that of mild PE placenta but not statistically significant (Z= -0. 233,P>0. 05). The expression of IMP3 in early onset PE placenta was lower than that of late onset PE placenta but not statistically significant(Z= -0. 108,P>0. 05). Compared with normal late tri-mester of pregnancy, the expression of IMP3 was significantly decreased in PE with FGR placenta (Z= -2. 375,P <0. 05), de-creased in FGR without PE and PE without FGR (Z= -1. 225,P>0. 05, Z= -1. 36,P>0. 05). Conclusion The results indicate that IMP3 protein expression is low in sever PE, which may be one of the pathogenesis of PE. IMP3 may be used as a marker to predict PE with FGR, and to provide a basis for the development of a novel therapeutic target in PE.

A highly phytase-producing strain B.licheniformis LL8 was obtained by several mutagenesis of UV with B.licheniformis as starting strain. The new strain produced about two folds of phytase activity as compared with the starting strain. The production performance of the strain was stable. The cultivation conditions were optimized by single factor and orthogonal experiment. When the mutant B.licheniformis LL8 was cultivated at 55℃, initial pH 7.5 with the inoculation size of 10% for 30h in WBE medUm, the phytase activity was up to 2268.4U/mL.

Aiming at local field potential, the present paper introduces a method of estimating lag of neuron activities between brain areas based on windowed Harmonic wavelet transform (WHWT). Firstly, the WHWT of signals of two brain areas are calculated. Secondly, the instantaneous amplitude of the signals is calculated and finally, these amplitudes are cross-correlated and the lag at which the cross-correlation peak occurs is determined as the lag of neurons activities. Comparing with amplitude cross-correlation based on Gabor wavelet transform (GWT) or Hilbert transform (HT), this method is more precise and efficient in estimating the directionality and lag.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2006;0(04):-
Oligosaccharides are one of the essential physiological constituents of glycoproteins and glycolipids on mammalian cell surfaces and microbial metabolites. They have considerable potential as therapeutics but are only now slowly assuming this important role. One of the reasons for their slow development has been the considerable difficulty in synthesizing oligosaccharides on the scale necessary for their clinical evaluation. Classical chemical and enzymatic methods both have limitations in synthesizing large-scale oligosaccharides. In recent years, the rapid progress on molecular biotechnology has promoted the development of retaining glycosidases in oligosaccharides synthesis, which led to the production of a novel class of enzymatic activities termed the glycosynthases. These new enzymes are retaining glycosidase mutants in which the catalytic nucleophile has been converted to a non-nucleophilic residue, synthesizing oligosaccharides in high yields ( the highest yields reach 99%) without any hydrolysis. Furthermore thioglycoligases and thioglycosynthases have been developed subsequently in the past three years. Glycosynthases can be screened in high-throughput assay by the two-plasmid system and the yeast three-hybid system respectively. Their activity can be significantly enhanced by substituting alternative residues for nucleophile, additional random mutations and optimizing reaction conditions. Their regioselectivity can be modified through changes in receptors.

Visual perceptual learning refers to the special improvement of perceptual performance benefit from repetitive training with a visual task.A typical time course of visual perceptual learning presents an initial rapid improvement, and then gradually processes like an asymptote in gain.During the process of perceptual learning, the influence of critical amount and perceptual learning rules on learning effect, memory consolidation and interference, and the role of sleep on preventing interference and promoting consolidation in perceptual learning, all get involved. This article reviewed the aforesaid content and then elaborated some strategies in application of visual perceptual learning in the treatment of amblyopia.
