1.Evaluation of binocular minimum thickness of cornea in Chinese myopic population

Background Central corneal thickness (CCT)is an important parameter to evaluate corneal healthy status and is crucial for surgical planning.However,clinical study found that the center of cornea does not correspond to the thinnest point of cornea.Thus,it is essential to characterize the minimum corneal thickness(MCT) and its location.Objective Present study was to determine the thickness and location of MCT and its relationship to the fellow eye using Pentacam High Resolution technique.Methods The 564 eyes from 282 Chinese myopic patients were reviewed in this study.The CCT,MCT,pupillary central corneal thickness(PCT) and x-y coordinate of thinnest point were bilaterally measured.Written informed consent was obtained prior to the ocular biomedical measurement.Results CCT was (540.07±31.78) μm in the right eyes and (539.24±31.06) μm in the lefi eyes; PCT was (540.25±30.75)μm in the right eyes and (539.48±31.00)μm in the left eyes.MCT was (537.87± 31.91)μm in the right eyes and (536.35±31.24)μm in the left eyes,showing significant differences in all the parameters between the right eyes and left eyes expect for PCT(CCT:P=0.046;PCT:P=0.065 ;MCT:P=0.000).The C CT,PCT and M CT were significantly correlated between the right eyes and left eyes (r =0.97,0.97,0.98,P< 0.01).Bland-Altman plot showed a good consistence between the both eyes.The mean distance from the center was (0.50±0.21) mm in the right eyes and (0.56±0.22)mm in the left eyes,showing a significant difference (P =0.000).The difference between CCT and MCT was approximately (2.20±1.74)μm in the right eyes and (2.88±1.75) μm in the left eyes.The location of MCT in both the right eyes and left eyes tended to symmetry along the vertical midline.The distance between the R (x,y) to transformed L (x,y) was (0.29 ± 0.17)mm and the angular distance was (28.28±28.21)degree.Conclusions This study offers a range of MCT and its location in Chinese myopic patients.The difference exists between the CCT and MCT in bilateral eyes.The location of the thinnest point tends to be symmetrical along the vertical midline between the both eyes.The changes of these parameters may be helpful for the diagnosis of some corneal diseases.

Objective To evaluate the effect of pulmonary function test on infants with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). 4.Circulatory sleep apnea: Preliminary report of clinical observation on sleep apnea in patients with chronic heart failure.

OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study is to investigate the occurrence and mechanism of Cheyne-Stokes breathing pattern in patients with heart failure.
METHODSFifty-six patients who performed polusomnography sleep testing at National Center of Cardiovascular Diseases Fuwai Hospital from March to May in 2015. We divided them into chronic heart failure (CHF) group and non-CHF group.
RESULTSThe occurrences of sleep apnea in two groups were high. In CHF group (n = 11) , there were 10 patients with apnea hypopnea index (AHI) > 5; and their AHI was 23.93 ±14.63. In non-CHF group (n = 45), there were 33 patients whose AHI > 5; and their AHI was 16.20 ± 18.76. The ratio of center sleep apnea to all gross sleep apnea ratio in CHF group was higher than that in non-CHF group (80.21% ± 30.55% vs 27.16% ± 35.71%, P < 0.01 ).
CONCLUSIONBased upon the new theory of holistic integrative physiology and medicine, we explain the mechanism of circulatory dysfunction induce the oscillation breathing in patients with CHF. The sleep apnea and C-S respiration in CHF should be called circulatory sleep apnea, rather than central sleep apnea.

5.Antimicrobial resistance characteristics of and disinfectant-resistant gene distribution in Staphylococcus aureus isolates from male urogenital tract infection.

OBJECTIVETo study the antibiotic- and disinfectant-resistance features of and disinfectant-resistant gene distribution in Staphylococcus aureus (Sa) isolated from the urogenital tract of male patients with urogenital tract infection (UTI). total of 152 Sa isolates were collected from the urethral discharge specimens from male UTI patients. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of antimicrobial agents and disinfectants commonly used against Sa were tested by standard ager dilution; the methicillin-resistant Sa (MRSA) isolates detected by cefoxitin disk diffusion and mecA gene amplification; Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) genotyping performed by multiplex PCR; the disinfectants gene qac (quaternary ammonium compound) amplified by PCR; and the clonal relatedness of qacA/B-positive MRSA isolates investigated by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE).
RESULTSOut of the 152 Sa isolates, 91 (59.9%) were found to be MRSA. SCCmec genotyping showed SCCmec V to be the main type, accounting for 63.7% (58/91), with 8 (8.8%) isolates of SCCmec I, 2 (2.2%) isolates of SCCmec II, 19 (20.9%) isolates of SCCmec III, and 4 (4. 4%) isolates of SCCmec IV. The Sa isolates exhibited high rates of non-susceptibility to penicillin (95.4%) , erythromycin (72.4% ) , ciprofloxacin (42. 8%), and levofloxacin (44.7%), and a fairly high sensitivity to nitrofurantoin, teicoplanin, linezolid, and vancomycin. The MIC in the Sa isolates was 0. 25 -16 microg/ml for chlorhexidine; MIC50 and MIC90 were 2.0 and 4.0 microg/ml respectively for MRSA strains and both 1.0 microg/ml for MSSA strains. Out of the 152 Sa isolates, 72 (47.4%) harbored the qacA/B gene, 6 (3.9%) the smar (qacC + qacD) gene, 9 (5.9%) the qacE delta 1 gene, and 2 (1.3%) the qacH gene, but no qacG and qacJ genes were detected. CONCLUSIONClinical Sa isolates exhibited varied degrees of resistance to commonly used antibiotics, and in a polyclonal manner. some showed a robust tolerance to chlorhexidine. The main disinfectant-resistant gene is qacA/B. Antimicrobial agents and disinfectants should be used rationally according to clinicians.

6.Determination of imperatorin in tetraploidy radix Angelicae dahuricae.

OBJECTIVETo determine the content of imperatorin in the tetraploidy radix angelicae dahuricae, and compare it with the original diplontic varites.
METHODThe chromatographic method was carried out on Nova-pak (4.6 mm x 200 mm, 5 microns) column with acetonitrile-water solution as a mobile phase. The flow rate was 1 ml.min-1. the detection wavelength was at 248 nm, and the column temperature was 25 degrees C.
RESULTThe eontent of was imperatorin in the tetraploidy radix 0.460% and 0.225% imperatorin in the diplontic species.
CONCLUSIONThe content of the mainly active constituent in the tetraploid is double to what it is in the original diplontic species.

7.Coumarins from Leonurus japonicus and their anti-platelet aggregative activity.

Chemical constituents of Leonurus japonicus were isolated and purified by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, MCI, and Rp C18. Structures of the isolates were determined by spectroscopic analysis as 10 coumarins: bergapten (1), xanthotoxin (2), isopimpinellin (3), isogosferal (4), imperatorin (5), meransin hydrate(6), isomeranzin(7), murrayone(8) , auraptenol(9), and osthol(10). In addition to compound 9, the others were isolated from the genus Leonurus for the first time. In the in vitro assay, compounds 4 and 8 significantly inhibited the abnormal increase of platelet aggregation induced by ADP.

8.Effects of sodium nitroprussiate on neurological function and Janus family of tyrosine kinases/signal transduction and transcription activator 3 pathway in rats with experimental intracerebral hemorrhage

Objective To investigate the effects of sodium nitroprussiate on neurological function and Janus family of tyrosine kinases/signal transduction and transcription activator 3 (JAK2/STAT3) pathway in rats with experimental intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods Sixty rats were randomly divided into control group,model group and test group,20 rats in each group. The model in model group and test group were given collagenase and heparin mixture to establish experimental cerebral hemorrhage,while control group was given the same amount of 0. 9% NaCl. The test group received intraperitoneal injection with sodium nitroprussiate(1 mg·kg-1) at 6,24,72 and 120 h after modeling,and the rats in model group and control group received intraperitoneal injection with the same amount of 0. 9% NaCl. The brain water content of each group was measured by weighing method was calculated; TdT-mediated dUTP nick- end labeling (TUNEL) method was used to detect apoptosis of rat brain tissue,and Western blotting (WB) method was used to detect the expression of JAK2/STAT3 pathway-related protein in rat brain tissue. Results At 72 h after modeling,there were significant differences among the control group,model group and test group in the brain water content [(76. 05 ±2. 04) % vs (84. 91 ±2. 58) % vs (79. 68 ±3. 01) %],the rate of apoptotic neurons [(7. 52 ± 1. 86) % vs (50. 23 ± 2. 43) % vs (26. 24 ± 2. 37) %],the relative expression of p- JAK2 protein in the brain tissues [(0. 07 ± 0. 13) vs (1. 26 ± 0. 05) vs (0. 33 ± 0. 05) ]and the relative expression of p-STAT3 protein [(0. 20 ± 0. 03) vs (0. 38 ± 0. 06) vs (0. 26 ± 0. 09) ](all P < 0. 05). Conclusion Sodium nitroprussiate has protective effect on brain injury in experimental cerebral hemorrhage rats,which may be related to regulate JAK2/STAT3 pathway and reduce apoptosis of brain tissue.
9.Effect of glycemia and blood-lipid in patients with type 2 diabetes educated by diabetes conversation map

Objective To observe the effect of diabetes conversation map in treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Methods From Sep 2009 to July 2010, 110 patients with T2DM were randomly classified into two groups, which observation group were educated with diabetes conversation map and control group with traditional models. The fasting blood glucose (FBG), postal blood glucose(PBG), HbA1c and bloodlipid were observed between the two groups. Results Compared with pre-education, the FPG, PBG and HbA1c were significantly decreased (P <0. 05) after education in both groups. Compared with traditional model group,LDL-C were significantly decreased (P <0. 05) after education by diabetes conversation map. The TC、TG and HDL-C were no statistically significant (P > 0. 05); FBG、 PBG、 HbA1c、 LDL-C were statistically significant (P <0. 05 or P < 0. 01) after education in both groups. Conclusions Diabetes conversation map education model can decrease glycemia, improve the dyslipidemia, and was an effective education model in T2DM.
10.Long-term effects of early hyperbaric oxygen therapy on neonatal rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage.

OBJECTIVEThe application and therapeutic effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) remains controversial. Previous studies have focused on the early pathological and biochemical outcomes and there is a lack of long-term functional evaluation. This study was designed to evaluate the long-term pathological and behavioral changes of early HBO therapy on neonatal rats with HIBD.
METHODSPostnatal 7 days (PD7) rat pups were randomly assigned into Control (n=18), HIBD (n=17) and HBO treatment groups (n=17). HIBD was induced by ligating the left common carotid, followed by 2 hrs hypoxia exposure in the HIBD and HBO treatment groups. The Control group was sham-operated and was not subjected to hypoxia exposure. The HBO therapy with 2 atmosphere absolutes began 0.5-1 hr after HIBD in the HIBD treatment group, once daily for 2 days. The spatial learning and memory ability were evaluated by the Morris water maze test at PD37 to PD41. The morphological and histological changes of the brain, including brain weight, survival neurons, AchE positive unit and NOS positive neurons in hippocampal CA1 region, were detected at PD42.
RESULTSThe rats in the HIBD group displayed significant morphological and histological deficits, as well as severe spatial learning and memory disability. In the Morris water maze test, the mean escape latency were longer (56.35 +/- 22.37 s vs 23.07 +/- 16.28 s; P < 0.05) and the probe time and probe length were shorter in the HIBD group (29.29 +/- 6.06 s vs 51.21 +/- 4.59 s and 548 +/- 92 cm vs 989 +/- 101 cm; both P < 0.05) compared with the Control group. The left brain weight in the HIBD group was lighter than that in the Control group (0.601 +/- 0.59 g vs 0.984 +/- 0.18 g; P < 0.05). The survival neurons in the hippocampal CA1 region were less (100 +/- 27/mm vs 183 +/- 8/mm; P < 0.05), as well as the AchE-positive unit and NOS-positive neurons (18.50 +/- 2.24% vs 27.50 +/- 2.18% and 19.25 +/- 4.33 vs 33.75 +/- 5.57 respectively; P < 0.05) after HIBD. Early HBO treatment improved the abilities of spatial learning and alleviated the morphological and histological damage. The mean escape latency (39.17 +/- 21.20 s) was shortened, the probe time (36.84 +/- 4.36 s) and the probe length (686 +/- 76 cm) were longer, and the brain weight (0.768 +/- 0.85 g), the survival neurons (133 +/- 25/mm) and the AchE-positive unit (21.94 +/- 2.73%) increased significantly compared with those of the HIBD group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSEarly HBO treatment resulted in a protective effect against HIBD-induced long-term brain morphological and histological deficits and spatial learning and memory disability.
