1.The Study in the US Biotechnology Industry Policy
China Biotechnology 2006;0(03):-
As the cradle of modern biotechnology, the U S biotechnology industry is in the lead of the world. This paper researches and summarizes the U S accelerating biotechnology industry policy and measure in the science& technology management、capital support、industrialization、preferential revenue、human resource and industry cluster. The purpose of the study is to help China constitute the policy to accelerate our biotechnology industry development.

Objective: To access the risk for smoking on morbidity of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) at different gender and age population. Methods: A case-control study was conducted in 2026 STEMI patients and 2026 control subjects with matched gender and age (±2 years) in our hospital from 2010-01-14 to 2016-02-27. The relationship between smoking and STEMI morbidity was analyzed. Results: Smoking was an important risk factor for STEMI morbidity in male gender and it was negatively related to age, as STEMI in young male smokers (≤45 years): adjusted OR=7.000, 95% CI 4.235-11.570; in middle age male smokers (46-59 years):adjusted OR=5.296, 95% CI 3.904-7.185 and in elder male smokers (≥60 years): adjusted OR=4.686, 95% CI 2.860-4.751. Conclusion: Smoking is a major risk factor for STEMI morbidity, while it is different from age and gender; the young male smokers have the highest risk to suffer from STEMI.

Objective To investigate the mechanisms of the inhibitory effects of peripheral electrical stimu- lation(PES)on chronic central pain(CCP)after spinal cord injury(SCI).Methods Twenty-four male Sprague- Dawley rats with CCP following SCI were randomly divided into three groups:a group without stainless steel needles implanted (NSSN group,n=8),a group with a stainless steel needle implanted but no peripheral electrical stimula- tion applied(NPES group,n=8)and a PES group(PES group,n=8).The rats' CCP was evaluated through ob- serving their response to nociceptive stimulation by means of the paw withdrawal pressure threshold(PWPT)and the paw withdrawal latency(PWL).Spontaneous pain behaviors including autophagia and scratching were observed at the same time.PES was applied via stainless steel needles inserted into standard acupoints on the hind limps and the back. The expression of the NMDA receptor 1(NR-1)subunit in the spinal cord horn was measured using immuno- chemical methods. Results Compared with the NSSN and NPES groups,CCP in the PES group was alleviated, PWPT and PWL were dramatically increased(P<0.01)and the expression of NR-1 was obviously decreased (P<0.01).Conclusion Peripheral electrical stimulation may alleviate chronic central pain after spinal cord injury in rats.

Objective To investigate the application of the ultrasonic guidance-assisted neonatal internal jugular vein catheterization. Methods Sixty two newborns (including low birth weight infants) receving thoracic/abdominal operation or resection of malignant tumor on the body-surface were randomly assigned to ultrasound guidance (UG) group or surface mark landmark(S) group.Newborns in both groups were all punctured with 22G venous indwelling needles to place the external casing, followed by the steel wire guidance-assisted implantation of ARROW 4F dual chamber central venous catheter. Then we compared the rate of successful insertion attempt, rate of malpositioning, complications and average operation time between the two groups. Results The rate of successful insertion attempt was 96.8%(30/31) in the UG group, significantly higher than that in the S group (32.3%,10/31),there was significant difference between the two groups(χ2=28.182,P=0.000).Malpositioning happened in 2 cases in the UG group, but 25 cases in the S group.Rate of complications was higher in the S group compared to the UG group (64.5% vs 3.2%,χ2=25.99,P=0.000).Most importantly, the average operation time was (4.366±1.137)min in the UG group, significantly shorter than that of the S group [(13.70±5.34)min,t=5.463,P=0.028)].ConclusionUltrasound guidance-assisted catheterization for neonatal internal jugular vein is safe and feasible and can dramatically improve the success rate and prevent complications.
