1.Vitrectomy of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in morning glory syndrome
International Eye Science 2010;10(3):424-426
We report a case of retinal detachment in morning glory syndrome(MGS). We think that identification of the retinal break, removal of the traction force by vitrectomy, the use of long-acting gas as endotamponade, all contributed to the successful treatment of the disease. The pathogenic mechanisms of the disease and the function of B-scan to the diagnosis are included.

Inflammation plays a key role in the formation of intracranial aneurysm. At present, the pathophysiological processes of intracranial aneurysms are mainly caused by both hemodynamic abnormalities and inflammation. Studies have shown that the inflammatory cels in the intracranial aneurysm wal are mainly mononuclear macrophages, and can secrete various effector molecules, weakening and destroying the structures of the vessel wal . Therefore, the research of the roles of differences played in different subtypes of macrophages and their effector molecules in the pathophysiological processes of intracranial aneurysms wil provide clues for exploring the pathogenesis of intracranial aneurysms and effective targeted therapy.

Objective To investigate the expression of Fas/FasL in children with aplastic anemia(AA) and its clinical significance. To explore the pathogenesis of AA.Methods CD34+ cell counts and the expression of Fas/FasL in 12 children with severe AA(SAA),18 with chronic AA(CAA)and 10 normal children were detected by flow cytometry combining monocolon antibody. Results The expression of Fas in children with AA were significantly higher than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusions Fas/FasL systeam take part in inducing CD34+ cell apoptosis. This may contribute to understanding the decrease number of stem cells and bone marrow failure.

To explore the regularity for the multiplication of avian influenza virus subtype H9N2 in large-scale microcarrier-based MDCK cell culture system, and to determine the optimal proliferation conditions. H9N2 subtype of avian influenza virus was inoculated into the MDCK cell growing on 24 well plate, and the HA titers of virus at different time were detected in the conditions of different infectious doses, different concentrations of TPCK- trypsin and different pH. The optimal conditions were determined. Then the H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus was grown in microcarrier-based MDCK cell in 250mL and 5L roller bottles. It was demonstrated that high viruse yield with a hemagglutination unit of 9 log2(1:512) could be obtained under the optimal conditions of multiplication . The result indicated the H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus could be produced in microcarrier-based MDCK cell in a large-scale culture system with a high virus yield and demonstrates the feasibility of the development of mammalian cell-based in influenza vaccine in microcarrier culture systems.

Objective To investigate the value of FDG PET-CT in the outcome assessment and prognostic evaluation for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC).Methods From January 2008 to December 2013,92 rNPC patients were treated in our center, who were histologically or radiologically diagnosed and re-staged according to the 2008 clinical staging system for nasopharyngeal carcinoma in China. The numbers of patients in stage Ⅰ,stage Ⅱ,stage Ⅲ,and stage Ⅳ were 8,11,39,and 34,respectively.According to the recurrent T stage (rT),the numbers of patients in rT1,rT2,rT3,and rT4 were 10,11,38,and 33,respectively.Twenty-eight patients had recurrence in the neck lymph nodes. All patients underwent pretreatment FDG PET-CT for the whole body or head/neck,and treated by radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy. The relationship of maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) and clinical factors with clinical outcomes was analyzed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate overall survival (OS),disease-free survival (DFS),local recurrence-free survival (LRFS),regional recurrence-free survival (RRFS),and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS).The log-rank test was used for survival difference analysis and univariate prognostic analysis. The Cox model was used for multivariate prognostic analysis. Results The 3-year OS,DFS,LRFS,RRFS,and DMFS were 33.6%,32.1%,32.8%,31.8%,and 33.7%,respectively.The median SUVmax was 8.35 (2.7-21.5).The SUVmax of 7.0 was taken as the optimal cut-off value for all patients.Patients with SUVmax ≤7.0 had a significantly higher 3-year OS rate than those with SUVm ax >7.0 (42.0% vs.28.3%,P=0.019).The univariate analysis revealed that patient age,SUV and rN were significantly associated with OS (P=0.023,0.019,and 0.002).The multivariate analysis showed that SUVmax and rN were significant influencing factors for OS,DFS,and DMFS (HR=1.68,P=0.045 and HR=2.23,P=0.003;HR=1.67,P=0.042 and HR=2.39,P=0.001;HR=1.77,P=0.025 and HR=2.40,P=0.001).Conclusions SUVmax may be one of the useful prognostic factors for OS,DFS,and DMFS in rNPC patients.

Objective To explore the expression of aquaporin (AQP)-4 in white matter of spinal cord after spinal cord contusion (SCC). Methods 88 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned randomly to sham operation group and SCC group. The model was established by Al-len's method. BBB sore was used to assess the motor function of rats. The relative expression of AQP-4 mRNA was determined by Q-PCR technique. The localization of AQP-4 was observed by immunohistochemistry. Results BBB score showed motor dysfunction in SCC group, and it increased 7 and 14 days after SCC (t>5.061, P<0.001). The level of AQP-4 mRNA decreased on the 1st and 3rd days (t>50.44, P<0.001), and increased on the 5th day (t=-3.968, P=0.001), and lasted until the 28th day (t=-4.227, P=0.001) compared with that on the 3rd day. The immunohistochemistry showed AQP-4 was located on the process of glial cell and vascular endothelial cells in white matter of spi-nal cord. Conclusion AQP-4 may play various roles at different stages in SCC.
