As one of the important founders of GAO's acupuncture academic school in YanZhao area, Professor GAO Yuchun 's experience of acupuncture for headache is summarized in this paper. In the opinion of Professor GAO, the treatment of headache should focus on eliminating evil and relieving pain, and the syndrome differentiation should be based on meridian differentiation, especially on three yang meridians of foot as well as liver meridian and kidney meridian. In the acupoint prescription, attention should be placed on strengthening the spleen and stomach. The midnight-midday ebb flow acupuncture is advocated. The combination between acupuncture order and movement of qi is emphasized. In the manipulation, the role of pressing hand, the stimulation during reinforcing and reducing methods, and needle-retention time are important. The breathing reinforcing and reducing method of acupuncture are also advocated.

Objective To identify and rename one strain stored in National Center for Medicine Culture Collections ( CMCC) and used for tracheitis vaccine production. Methods The test strain CMCC (B)29108 and the type strain DSM30007T were cultured on NA medium. Characteristics in morphology, physiology, biochemistry and fatty acid profile were compared between the two strains. Phylogenetic analysis was based on 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequences, together with the DNA-DNA hybridization assay. Results A Comparative analysis of a partial sequence of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that the CMCC( B) 29108 strain was closed to the Acinetobacter species and showed the highest similarity with the type strain Acinetobacter baumannii DSM30007T. Moreover, the CMCC(B)29108 strain was highly similar to type strain DSM30007T in morphology, physiology, biochemistry and fatty acid profile. On the phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA and rpoB gene of all Acinetobacter members, the CMCC(B)29108 strain steadily clustered into one independent branch only with the DSM30007 T strain with a DNA-DNA hybridization value of 100%. Conclusion The CMCC(B)29108 strain that is one of the strains used for the production of tracheitis vac-cine should be assigned to the species of Acinetobacter baumannii based on its phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics.

OBJECTIVETo record and analyze the characteristics of condyle movement before and after functional treatment in Angle class II division 1 malocclusion (II(1)) patients.
METHODSTwenty Angle II(1) patients were included in the study and 20 Angle I patients without temporomandibular disorders symptoms served as controls. Computer aided diagnosis axiograph (CADIAX) was used to record the condyle movement in Angle II(1) patients and that caused by functional appliance treatment during mouth opening and closing.
RESULTSThe tracing were vertically displayed. Value Z [L: 2.21 (1.01) mm, R: 1.12 (1.02) mm] and sagittal condylar inclination [L: 12.89 (9.12) degrees, R: 12.12 (8.89) degrees] were increased significantly in Angle II(1) patients compared with those in control group (P < 0.05). After functional treatment, the condyle movement in Angle II(1) patients was close to normal (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSTypical characteristics of condyle movement were found in Angle II(1) patients and it was stable and repeatable. Functional therapy had a positive effect on temporomandibular joint function in Angle II(1) patients.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the stability of mini-screw implant during different healing periods in the unloaded conditions.
METHODSSixty titanium mini-screws were used in this study. A total of 10 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 5 groups according to different healing periods. The stability was evaluated biomechanically at different time points. One-way ANOVA and correlation analyses were used.
RESULTS(1) After 4 weeks and 8 weeks of healing, maximal pull-out loads were (179.68 +/- 24.65) N and (212.06 +/- 42.51) N, respectively. The maximal torques were (0.47 +/- 0.13) N.m and (0.61 +/- 0.16) N.m, respectively. (2) Significant difference in maximal torque was found between 4 week and 8 week healing groups. (3) Both reverse torque and pull-out load significantly correlated with healing time.
CONCLUSIONSFourth-week is a critical time point in the progress of osseointegration. Within 8 weeks of healing process, the stability of implant was significantly correlated with healing time.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of completely resected nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to assess the impact of vascular invasion and TNM stage on prognosis.
METHODSBetween March 1, 1997 and March 1, 2002, a total of 1826 pathologically confirmed NSCLC patients with complete resection were enrolled in this study. The major clinical and pathological features were analyzed, and the impact of vascular invasion on prognosis was investigated. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS software. Fisher's exact test was used to assess the correlation of vascular invasion with the other clinicopathological variables. Survival was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression.
RESULTSOf the 1826 patients, 126 were found to have vascular invasion. Univariate analysis revealed that the following factors was significantly correlated with shorter overall survival: family history of cancer, histological type, pathological stage and vascular invasion, whereas multivariate analysis confirmed that only pathological stage and vascular invasion were the significant prognostic factors with a hazard ratio of 2.80 [95% CI 1.74 - 4.86] and 4.76 [95% CI 2.38 - 6.21], respectively. The overall 5-year survival rate of this series was 57.4% for stage I, 34.2% for stage II and 18.7% for stage III (P = 0.001) ,respectively. It was 59.1% for stage I 36.2% for stage II and 20.0% for stage III for those without vascular invasion, whereas for those with vascular invasion, it was 37.5% for stage I, 24.0% for stage II and 7.0% for stage III, respectively. There was a significant difference among the patients with different TNM stage and between the patients with vascular invasion and without (P < 0.05) by log-rank test. The distant metastasis rate of the patients with vascular invasion was 69.9% versus 36.7% in those without (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSIONOur results show that TNM stage and vascular invasion are significant prognostic factors in nonsmall cell lung cancer. Vascular invasion can not only serve as an independent prognostic factor, but can also predict the possibility of metastasis.

OBJECTIVETo observe the change of ICBP90 expression in patients with chronic benzene poisoning and explore the correlation between the expression of ICBP90 and benzene-induced hematotoxicity.
METHODSThe bone marrow samples were from 13 chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic suppression, 11 chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic regeneration and 10 controls. Western-blot was applied to detect the ICBP90 expression in bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMNCs). The correlation between ICBP90 expression and hematopoietic suppression in patients with chronic benzene poisoning was analyzed.
RESULTSThe ICBP90 expression of BMNCs in 13 chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic suppression was significantly lower than that in controls (P < 0.01). The ICBP90 expression of BMNCs in 11 chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic regeneration was significantly higher than those in controls and 13 chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic suppression (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), respectively. There were good correlations between the expression of ICBP90 and white blood cell and platelet counts in patients with chronic benzene poisoning (r(1) = 0.555,P = 0.006; r(2) = 0.854,P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe ICBP90 expression of BMNCs in the chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic suppression decreased significantly, and the ICBP90 expression of BMNCs in the chronic benzene poisoning cases with hematopoietic regeneration increased significantly. There was good correlation between hematopoietic suppression and ICBP90 expression in patients with chronic benzene poisoning.
