Objective With awareness, attitudes, and rice-intake behavior of Kaschin-Beck disease (KBD) and the analysis of the factors that influence KBD related rice-intake behaviors among resident's in Aba,this research could provide evidences for KBD-Control, and benefit the policy development related to KBD-Control.Methods Villages were chosen by proportional stratified random sampling from KBD monitoring villages among agriculture areas, pastoral areas, and farming & pastoral areas in Aba, Sichuan, in July 2009. Interview questionnaire of household survey, designed by research associates of this project, was used in this research for residents in endemic area of KBD in Aba. The questionnaire covered demographic and socio-economic characteristics, KBD knowledge and diet habits. Multi-level Variance Component Analysis was used to explore factors which would influence the KBD related rice-intake behaviors. Results A total of 1029 permanent residents were recruited in this research, among which the detection rate of KBD was 48.01% (482/1004). Most of the patients lived in farming & pastoral areas(84.44%, 407/482). Pastoral residents had the least knowledge of KashinBeck disease, and the composition ratios ofGeneral andGood were 15.87% (33/208)and 3.36% (7/208),respectively. Still, people who were willing to have rice as staple food were 93.13%(935/1004). It indicated that only (50.40 ± 23.68)% on average, of research subjects had the life style of rice intake. Ethnic, work status, language situation and attitudes to rice intake were influencing factors for rice-intake behavior. Conclusions The percentage of rice intake in Aba KBD epidemic areas is low. And to prevent KBD, the advocacy actions should be targeted at ethnic, work status, language situation, and attitudes to rice intake.

Objective To systematically evaluate the association between protein C and Legg -Calve -Perthes disease. Methods A literature research was performed through PubMed,Embase,Cochrane library,Web of Science,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database(CBM),China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)and Wan-fang Database from inception to February 201 6 on the association between protein C and Legg -Calve -Perthes disease.According to the Newcastle -Ottawa Scale(NOS)criteria, the quality of studies was evaluated and data were extracted.Meta -analysis was performed with Stata 1 1 .0 software. Results A total of 1 4 articles were included.Twelve articles on protein C and Legg -Calve -Perthes disease in the study group and the control group were compared. The results of Meta -analysis showed that there was no significant difference in protein C levels between the study group and the control group[odds radio(OR)=1 .41 ,95% confidence interval(CI)(0.87,2.28),P =0.1 47];five articles on protein C and the white race of Legg -Calve -Perthes disease between the study group and the control group were com-pared,The results of Meta -analysis showed that there was no significant difference in protein C levels between the whiteskin patients′group and the control group[OR =0.61 2,95%CI(1 .83,7.29),P =0.61 2];three articles on pro-tein C and the yellow race of Legg -Calve -Perthes disease between the study group and the control group were com-pared,and the results of Meta -analysis showed that there was no significant difference in protein C levels between the yellow skin patients group and the control group[OR =0.59,95%CI(0.05,6.72),P =0.080].Conclusion There is no significant correlation between protein C and Legg -Calve -Perthes disease.

Objective To discuss the prevalence of non-EV71,non-CA16 virus strains of hand, foot and mouth disease(HFMD) in Guangdong province between 2008 and 2009,and analyze the genetic evolution of these non-EV71,non-CA16 virus strains. Methods Isolated viruses from stool samples collected from outpatient and in-patient cases of HFMD between 2008 and 2009 by human rhabdomyosarcoma(RD) cell and HEp-2 cell, cultures that exhibited a characteristic enterovirus cytopathic effect were evaluated by RT-PCR.Those strains which identified non-EV71,non-CA16 were analyzed by VP1 sequencing and then were identified by BLAST program.A phylogenetic tree was constructed using the Neighor-Joinning method in the MEGA 4.0 software. Results Twenty-two virus strains of non-EV71,non-CA16 were obtained, and nine of the twenty-two virus strains in 2008 were classified into CA2,CA4,and CB3 by BLAST; thirteen of the twenty-two virus strains in 2009 were classified into EV80,Echo13,Echo30,CBS,Echo24,CA10,CA6,and poliovirus 1 by BLAST.The honology of all strains was low,and all the strains belonged to CA,CB,Echoviruses,Enterovirus and poliovirus subgroup. Conclusion Except for EV71 and CA16 was a major causative agent in prevail of HFMD in Guangdong province between 2008 and 2009,there also existed other subgroup Enterovirus. The other twenty-two strains respectively belonged to CA,CB,Echoviruses,Enterovirus and poliovirus subgroup, and none of those strains was predominant.Muti-species Enterovirus occurred concomitantly.

Objective To evaluate the significance of human interleukin-31(IL-31)in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis and its correlation with pruritus in patients with atopic dermatitis(AD).Methods Twenty-two children with mild to severe atopic dermatitis and 22 age-matched healthy controls were included in this study.Patients and controls were randomly and equally assigned into stimulation and non-stimulation groups.Venous blood samples were obtained from all participants, peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from these samples and cultured with(stimulation groups)or without(non-stimulation groups)staphylococcal enterotoxin B(SEB)for 24 hours. Then, the mRNA expression of IL-31 on PBMCs was assessed via real-time reverse transcription-PCR.ELISA was used to detect the total serum IgE level in these objects. The severity of AD in patients was rated according to scoring atopic dermatitis(SCORAD).The relationship between the mRNA expression of IL-31 and the level of serum total IgE.severity of atopic dermatitis, and degree of pruritus.was evaluated. Results The expression of IL-31 mRNA on non-stimulated PBMCs from patients was 23.2 folds as high as that from the healthy controls(P<0.01).The stimulation with SEB upregulated the mRNA expression of IL-31 on PBMCs.and the increase on PBMCs from patients was 20.44 times of that from the controls. The total serum IgE level was 260.05 IU/mL(5.9-1131.01 IU/mL)and 17.7 IU/mL(5-140.7 IU/mL)in the Patients and controls respectively(P<0.01).There was no significant correlation between the mRNA expression of IL-31 and disease severity or total serum IgE level(r=0.07.0.22respectively.both P>0.05)in patients witll AD.Condusions IL.3 1 is involved in t11e pathogenesis of AD,which is unlikely to be IgE-dependent.SEB can induce the rapid expression of IL-31 on PBMCs of healthy human, and is an important modulator for the production of IL-31.
