Objective To analyze the present situation of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) in Henan Province,and to promote implementation of sustainable control strategies.Methods In 2011,a stratified proportion to population probability sampling (PPS) method was used to survey 1200 children aged 8 to 10 in 30 counties of the province.One primary school was selected in each chosen county.Goiter,intelligence quotient (IQ),urinary iodine and salt iodine level were studied.Meanwhile,12 families per capita salt intake was investigated.In each school,30 5th-grade students and 30 pregnant and lactating women in the school townships and adjacent neighboring townships were selected to carry out questionnaire survey on health education with unified papers.Results ①The goiter rate of children aged 8 to 10 by B ultrasound was 4.5％ (54/1201) ; the IQ of 1080 children was 107.75 ± 16.81 ; median urinary iodine level of 358 children was 201.4 μg/L.②The median of salt iodine content was 28.6 mg/kg,the coverage rate of iodized salt was 98.8％ (1186/1200),and qualified rate of iodized salt was 93.0％ (1116/1200).③The residents average daily salt intake was 10.5 g.④Average score of the questionnaire survey of 1084 5th-grade students was 4.2 points.Average score of 961 housewives was 4.4 points.Conclusions Various technical indicators show that IDD is in a sustained elimination state in Henan Province.Strengthen health education,enhance public awareness of disease prevention is still the important work ahead.

Objective To analyze the examination results of external quality assessment(EQA) at all levels of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) laboratories in Henan province and the network operation to further standardize and improve the laboratory,and to provide reliable laboratory quality assurance for surveillance and control of IDD.Methods The examination results of EQA at all levels of IDD laboratories in Henan province were statistically analyzed in accordance with the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) of IDD (1999-201 1).Results The survey results showed that the provincial level laboratory was all qualified in testing urinary iodine and salt iodine in the past 13 years.In prefectural level,the laboratory response rates were 100.0％,and through participation in EQA,laboratory capacity had been significantly increased and stabilized.From 1999 to 2001,the passing rate of check up of urinary iodine was 22.2％ (4/18),72.2％ (13/18),94.4％ (17/18),respectively,and the rate was stable at 100.0％(18/18) from 2002 to 2011 except 94.4％ (17/18) in 2003.Since 2000,the prefectural level laboratory began to take part in the salt iodine EQA,and the laboratory response rate was 100.0％ (18/18) from 2000 to 2011.Except 88.9％(16/18) in 2003,the passing rate of check up of urinary iodine was 100.0％(18/18)from 2000 to 2011.In 2003 and 2004,6 to 7 county-level laboratories participated in the EQA of urinary iodine in Zhengzhou city,respectively,and all qualified.The number of county-level laboratories that participated in the salt iodine quality control network increased from 29 in 1999 to 148 in 2011.Response rate was 94.4％(68/72),96.7％(58/60) and 92.3％(144/156)in 2003,2006 and 2007,respectively,and the rate remained stable at 100.0％ in the remaining 10 years.In 1999,the passing rate was 69.0％ (20/29),then increased significantly,except 86.7％ (26/30) in 2001 and 84.6％(132/156) in 2007,the rates were all above 90.0％ in other years,especially in 2000 and 2009,the passing rates were both 100.0％.Conclusions The accuracy of test results of external quality controls and the normal operation of the network at all levels of laboratories is closely related to the IDD laboratory conditions and detection techniques.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of mortality and disability among young individuals in our society, and globally the incidence of TBI is rising sharply. Mounting evidence has indicated that apolipoprotein E (apoE: protein; APOE: gene) genotype influences the outcome after TBI. The proposed mechanism by which APOE affects the clinicopathological consequences of TBI is multifactorial and includes amyloid deposition, disruption of lipid distribution, dysfunction of mitochondrial energy production, oxidative stress and increases intracellular calcium in response to injury. This paper reviews the current state of knowledge regarding the influence of apoE and its receptors on cerebral amyloid beta-protein precursor metabolism following TBI.

Objective To investigate the value of ~1H-MRS in the diagnosis and prognosis of diffuse axonal injury(DAI).Methods A prospective imaging study was performed in 63 patients with craniocerebral injury admitted from October 2002 to April 2004.Sixty-three patients were divided into DAI group(27 cases)and Non-DAI group(36 cases)according to the result of the MRI.Then,the ratio of NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr,mINs/Cr,and GIx/Cr at basal ganglia and genu and splenium of corpus callosum was quantified using ~1H-MRS and compared between DAI group and Non-DAI group.Twenty healthy persons were served as control group.The relation between ~1H-MRS indexes and period of primary uneonciousness post-injury was analyzed.Results The results of NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr at genu and splenium of corpus callosum and basal ganglia of control group were 1.19?0.18,1.21?0.24;1.89?0.17,1.84?0.14; 1.57?0.16,1.85?0.25,which of DAI group were 0.83?0.24,2.92?0.78;1.25?0.35,2.54? 0.42;1.33?0.17,2.38?0.44,and those of Non-DAI group were 1.11?0.23,1.61?0.33;1.61? 0.22,1.93?0.26;1.49?0.23,1.89?0.29.The differences between them were statistically significant (P

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as an injury caused by a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. It is a common emergency and severe case in neurosurgery field. Nowadays, there are more and more evidences showing that TBI, which is apparently similar in pathology and severity in the acute stage, may have different outcomes. The known prognostic factors (such as age, severity of injury and treatments, etc.) explain only part of this variability and the concept of genetic susceptibility of traumatic brain injury has already been accepted by more and more people. It is now demonstrated that genetic polymorphism may play a key role in the susceptibility to TBI, even outcome following TBI. Although there are many genes that may involved in pathophysiological processes influencing TBI, apolipoprotein E gene has become one of the most extensive studied genes in neurotrauma and neurodegenerative disease and seems to take an important part in the neural responses to TBI. In this article, we will review the current understanding of the genetic susceptibility of TBI and the advancements regarding the impact of apolipoprotein E genotype on the severity and/or outcome following TBI.

OBJECTIVETo observe the change of PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-1α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in rats with adjuvant arthritis and to explore the mechanism of neovasculization in rheumatoid arthritis.

METHODSThirty rats were randomly divided into normal control group and model control group. The model control group were established the model of adjuvant arthritis using Freund's complete adjuvant. At 19 days after modeling, the expression of microvascular density (MVD), HIF-1α, VEGF were detected by ELISA assay and PTEN, PI3K, AKT were detected by Werstern Blotting.

RESULTSCompared with the normal control group, paw swelling, arthritic index were increased, and the expression of MVD, VEGF, HIF-1α of serum, PI3K, AKT of synovial tissue were significantly increased, PTEN was significantly decreased in model control group. PI3K, HIF-1α were positively correlated with MVD; VEGF, AKT were positively correlated with paw swelling; PTEN was negatively correlated with the arthritis index; HIF-1α was positively correlated with VEGF; PI3K was positively correlated with AKT, PTEN was negatively correlated with PI3K, AKT, VEGF.

CONCLUSIONImbalance of PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway in rats with adjuvant arthritis is one of the mechanisms of synovial neovasculization.

Objective To investigate the relationship between apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype and onset of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH). Methods One hundred and twenty-eight patients with HICH,admitted to our hospital from September 2007 to December 2010,and 84 healthy controls clinically flee from neurology disease were chosen in our study.A POE genotype was determined using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP); the distribution ofAPOE genotype and allele fiequency between the 2 groups were compared; the age of onset,gender,blood pressure,blood fat,bleeding part and size of haematoma in patients with different APOE genotype were further studied. Results The subjects with smoking hobby,diabetes history and higher concentrations of TC and LDL-C in the HICH group were obviously more than those in the control group (P＜0.05).As compared with those in the controls,the distributions of the APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 in the HICH group were significantly higher, and the distributions of the APOEε3/3 and APOEε3 in the HICH group were significantly lower (P＜0.05). The APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers enjoyed higher percentages of onset age less than 45 years and superficial haematoma than A POEε3/3 and the A POEε3 carriers. The onset systolic blood pressure in APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers was obviously lower than that in A POEε3/3 and A POEε3 carriers (P＜0.05). The plasma concentrations of LDL-C and TC in APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers was significantly higher than those in APOEε3/3 and APOEε3 carriers (P＜0.05). Conclusion The APOE genotype influences the onset of HICH, and its influence factors included onset age, blood pressure,blood fat and bleeding part,which may concern with the cerebral artherosclerosis or amyloidosis.

OBJECTIVEChronic prostatitis (CP) is a common disease in adult males. Oxidative stress injury has been found to play a significant role in the pathogenesis of CP in recent studies. This study aimed to determine the contents of CuZn-super oxide dismutase (CuZn-SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum and EPS in CP patients and healthy men, and investigate their significance in the diagnosis and treatment of the CP.

METHODSA total of 120 out-patients with confirmed CP were equally divided into a type II, a type IIIA and a type IIIB group, and another 40 healthy males were included as controls. We determined the contents of CuZn-SOD and MDA in the serum and EPS of each group and compared their differences.

RESULTSNo significant differences were found in the serum CuZn-SOD content among the four groups (P > 0.05). The MDA contents were markedly higher in the CP groups than in the control (P < 0.01), but with no significant differences among the three CP groups (P > 0.05). The CuZn-SOD contents in EPS were remarkably lower in the type II and type III A than in the type III B and control groups (P < 0.01), but with no significant differences between the type II and type III A as well as between the type III B and control groups (P > 0.05). The MDA contents in EPS were markedly higher in the type II and type III A than in the type III B and control groups (P < 0.01), but with no significant differences between the type II and type III A as well as the type III B and control groups (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONOxidative stress is stronger in type II and type III A CP patients than in healthy men, but has no significant difference between type III B patients and non-CP males. Determining the contents of CuZn-SOD and MDA in the serum and EPS could be very valuable for the diagnosis and assessment of chronic prostatitis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of ARNT2 on invasion and migration of HCCLM6 cells.

METHODSFour short hairpin oligos targeting to ARNT2 were s cloned into the pLVTHM vector. Lentiviral vectors shRNA-ARNT2i, pCMV-dR8.74 and pMD2G were cotransfected into 293T cells using Lipofectamine 2000. HCCLM6 was infected with virus supernatant. ARNT2 mRNA and protein expressions were detected using quantitative Real time-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The invasion and migration of HCCLM6 cells were evaluated using wound healing assay and cell invasion assay in vitro. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 16.0.

RESULTSThe relative mRNA levels of ARNT2 were 0.154+/-0.024, 0.860+/-0.145, 1.004+/-0.009 in shRNA-ARNT2i virus infected HCCLM6 cells, mock-infected cells and control vector virus infected cells (F = 113.14, P more than 0.01). The expression of ARNT2 at protein level was 16.45+/-1.6, 44.56+/-2.07 in the HCCLM6 cells infected with shRNA-ARNT2i virus and negative control vector virus, respectively (t = 18.58, P less than 0.01). The scrape wound of HCCLM6 cells infected with shRNA-ARNT2i virus healed faster than cells infected with control vector virus or mock-infected cells. The number of cells invading through Matrigel was higher in the HCCLM6 cells infected with shRNA-ARNT2i virus (13.25+/-1.04) than that in mock-infected HCCLM6 cells and the HCCLM6 cells infected with negative control vector virus (6.50+/-2.56, 6.75+/-2.05) (F = 29.645, P less than 0.01).

CONCLUSIONInhibition of ARNT2 gene promotes the invasion and migration of HCCLM6 cells.
