Objective To analyse the DSA findings of hepatic alveolar echinococcus (HAE) and evaluate the feasibility of the interventional therapy. Methods Eight patients with HAE were all examined by DSA , CT and lab test . Three of them were performed the transcatheter arterial embolization by iodlized oil. All of them were confirmed by surgical operation and followed-up for three months. Results The DSA findings of HAE included hepatic arterial curling and enlargement with hypertrophied circled encircling as typical “handed ball”. Eight cases presented the ring stain during the capillary stage. After embolization, the retention of iodized oil were revealed by DSA in 3 cases. CT three months later showed fine iodized oil retention and the enlarged necrosis. Ischemic necrosis around the lesion and the cut margins were clearly seen in operation biopsy. Conclusions HAE possesses special DSA findings and interventional therapy in a new therapeutic method of choice.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution of commonly encountered pathogenic microbes during the last five years.METHODS A total of 9318 strains of NI pathogens during from Jan 2004 to Dec 2008 were surveyed and analyzed.RESULTS From them the percentage of Gram-positive cocci was 13.6%,the main pathogen was coagulase negative Staphylococcus,Gram-negative bacilli(28.8%).The predominant pathogens were Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The drug resistance of NI pathogens was markedly increased.Especially, the rate of drug resistance of P.aeruginosa to imipenem was from 0 to 31.8% in 2005,and that of Enterococcus to vancomycin was 4.0% in 2007.The percentage of fungi was 26.4% and increased sharply year by year.CONCLUSIONS The Gram-negative bacteria play a dominant role in clinics and drug resistance of isolated pathogenic bacteria is a serious problem.Monitoring the trends of pathogenic bacteria′s distribution and drug resistance is very important in guiding the clinical administration of drugs and we should pay attention to fungal infection.

Objective To evaluate the value of endoscopic profile in an adult population with typical heartburn. Methods Clinical and endoscopic data were collected from 5042 consecutive outpatients who underwent routine upper endoscopy without any alarm features between March 2006 and Feb. 2007. Results Three hundred and thirteen (6.2%) patients were diagnosed as having typical heartburn. Of these, erosive esophagitis (EE) was found in 99 (31.6%) patients, Barrett's esophagus (BE) in 10 (3. 2%) patients, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) in 21 (6. 7%) patients and carcinoma in three (0.9 %) patients (1 with esophageal carcinoma and 2 with gastric adenocarcinoma).Multivariate analysis revealed that age>50, male, overweight and alcohol use were independent risk factors for positive endoscopy findings (P<0.05) and EE (P<0.05) in heartburn patients. Male and Helicobacter pylori infection were independent risk factors for PUD (P< 0.05). Conclusions In China, patients with typical heartburn but without alarm features, early endoscopic examination may be helpful in avoiding missing diagnosis of tumor.

To explore an easily executive and conveniently generalized method with effectiveness and low costing for myopia screening at the early stage.Research was performed to testify the reasonability of using axial length/corneal radius (AL/CR) for myopia screening in children by comparing the cost between AL/CR plus vision acuity (VA) and simple VA examination.Chinese school-aged children in Yangfang school district,Beijing (n=1427,aged 6~12 years old) were randomly grouped for either pure VA examination or for VA plus AL/CR examination. Those suspicious myopic children were informed for further refractive examination. Finally, the cost from screening to definite diagnosis of refractive error was calculated.Generally, compared with VA examination, the total cost was reduced by 15.12% and by 12.34%,respectively,in the elder group using VA plus AL/CR examination.VA plus AL/CR examination is an economical and reasonable method for screening suspicious myopia in Chinese school-aged children compared with pure VA examination.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2003;1(6):11-12
Purpose: The clinical effects of scalp acupuncture in treating infantile cerebral palsy were observed. Methods: Forty-five patients were treated by scalp acupuncture, functional exercise, intravenous drip, and parents' instructive training. Results: Basic recovery occurred in 4 cases, marked effectiveness in 21 cases and effectiveness in 15 cases. The total effective rate was 88.9%. The shorter duration and the longer course were, the better curative effects got. Conclusion: A combined treatment of scalp acupuncture, physiotherapy and intravenous drip can markedly improve clinical symptoms, signs, and intelligence in children with cerebral palsy.

Objective To study the normal macular thickness in children provide reference for the diagnosis of macular thickness abnormity in teenagers. Methods Databases including Wanfang,Pubmed and some others were searched for studies on macular thickness in Asian children.Data of macular thickness were extracted and were merged into only one by formulae. Results 12 studies were enrolled. The mean foveal minimum and central macular thickness were 143.89±17.32μm(n=2062 eyes) and 181.60±17.93μm(n=1974 eyes),respectively. The eight areas of inner circle (1~3mm diameter) and the outer circle (3~6mm diameter) macular thickness were also calculated. The central macular area seemed thicker in pre-school children than school children. Conclusion Chidren's macular thickness have different characteristic from adults',so it is important to take age, refraction, axial length, race and sex into account before making an abnormal macular thickness diagnosis.Meanwhile,a large sample of population-based cross-sectional study in children is necessary for a more effective standard.

OBJECTIVE To improve the surveillance and control of hospital infection.METHODS A series of management surveillance network information system for hospital infection were established by using SQL Server 2000 as database and Delphi 7.0 as program tool. The system included hospital infection case surveillance subsystem, antibiotic rational usage subsystem and the interface program of hospital information subsystem.RESULTS The hospital surveillance network connected the hospital infection department with the medical laboratory department and inpatient department,so the hospital infection data could be shared by all departments of hospital.CONCLUSIONS The system can improve work efficiency of hospital infection surveillance.
