AIM: To observe effect of the iris location to femtosecond - combined wavefront guided LASIK for myopia and astigmatism.?METHODS:The patients with astigmatism >1. 0D during the same time and followed up for 1a were selected. A total of 129 eyes in 67 patients were treated under iris location with femtosecond-combined wavefront guided LASIK ( experimental group) and 161 eyes in 82 cases with femtosecond-combined wavefront guided LASIK ( control group) . Laser cutting went with the same laser machine. The uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) , best corrected visual acuity ( BCVA) , and wavefront aberration between the two groups were compared at 1, 3, 6mo and 1a after surgery.?RESULTS:At 1 and 3mo after surgery, the number of patients with better postoperative UCVA than preoperative BCVA between the two group showed a statistically significant difference (χ2=6. 423, P=0. 011,χ2=14. 431, P=0. 01 ); at 1d and 1mo after surgery, the residual astigmatism showed a statistically significant difference between two groups (t=1. 98, P<0. 05; t=2. 23, P<0. 05). At 3, 6mo and 1a after surgery, the differences on the change of residual astigmatism between the two groups weren’t significant ( P > 0. 05 ). At 6mo and 1a after surgery, the differences on UCVA between the two groups weren’t significant ( P > 0. 05 ). Until 1a after surgery, the root mean square ( RMS ) of high order wavefront aberration of the two groups, spherical aberration and coma aberration ( COMA ) were all enhanced compared to before surgery(P<0. 05). At 1, 3mo after surgery, the RMS showed a statistically significant difference between two groups (P<0. 05). At 1, 3, 6mo, 1a after surgery, the increase of COMA in experimental group was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0. 05).? CONCLUSION: Iris location technology applied in femtosecond - combined wavefront guided LASIK for myopia and astigmatism, can make the vision recovery faster, the RMS of high order and COMA increase less, the residual astigmatism less, show better and more stable treatment effect.

AIM:To contrast analysis of postoperative variation of corneal posterior surface heights after Femtosecond LASlK ( FS - LASlK ) and small incision lenticule extraction ( SMlLE) for high myopia.
●METHODS: Sixty-seven cases of high myopic patients (132 eyes) operated with laser corneal refractive in our hospital from May to Dec. in 2015 (-6. 00D≤spherical equivalent degree≤-10. 00D) were selected and divided into FS-LASlK group and SMlLE group. The thickness of corneal flaps at FS-LASlK and the thickness of map at SMlLE were designed to be 110μm. Corneal posterior surface heights were examined by Pentacam at preoperation, postoperative 3 and 6mo after FS-LASlK and SMlLE operation. Surface height changes after preoperative, postoperative 3 and 6mo were compared by measuring Pentacam corneal analysis system.
●RESULTS: Six months after operation, the FS-LASlK posterior corneal surface height was 6. 47 ± 1. 65mm, significantly higher than 5. 20 ± 1. 32mm before operation. SMlLE posterior corneal surface height was 6. 40 ± 1. 33mm, significantly higher than 5. 18 ± 1. 25mm before operation, the differences were statistically significant( P<0. 05). Six month after surgery, two methods of corneal surface height variation obtained was 1. 29 ± 1. 28mm and 1. 22 ± 0. 89mm, there was no significant difference ( P>0. 05).
●CONCLUSION:After FS-LASlK and SMlLE, the corneal posterior surface is protrusive. FS - LASlK is slightly obvious than SMlLE in early period. The stability of the posterior surface is better after SMlLE.

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of serum immunoglobulin and complement levels in centenarians in Hainan.Methods:Fasting venous blood samples from 969 centenarians in Hainan province were collected and from 364 seniors serving as the control group.Levels of serum immunoglobulin A, G, M and E, immunoglobulin light chain κ and λ, and complement C3 and C4 were measured.Serum immunoglobulin and complement levels were analyzed in subjects based on age, sex, ethnicity, diet and smoking.Results:Serum levels of immunoglobulin G and E, and immunoglobulin light chain κ were higher in the centenarian group than in the control group[15.9(13.8, 18.3)g/L vs.14.9(13.1, 16.9)g/L; 270.0(85.5, 851.0) vs.180.5 kU/L(58.0, 556.2)kU/L, 4.1(3.5, 4.9)g/L vs.4.0(3.1, 4.6)g/L, P<0.05]. Serum levels of immunoglobulin M, and complement C3 and C4 were lower in the centenarian group than in the control group[1.0(0.7, 1.4)g/L vs.1.1(0.8, 1.5)g/L, 1.0(0.9, 1.2) vs.1.1(1.0, 1.3), 0.2(0.2, 0.3) vs.0.3(0.2, 0.3), P<0.05]. Serum levels of immunoglobulin M and complement C3 were higher in female centenarians than in male centenarians[1.1(0.7, 1.4) vs.1.0(0.7, 1.3), 1.0(0.9, 1.1) vs.1.0(0.8, 1.1), P<0.05]. There were significant differences in immunoglobulin A, G and E, and immunoglobulin light chain κ and λ between centenarians of different ethnicities( P<0.01). Serum immunoglobulin M levels were higher in centenarians with a long history of milk-drinking than in those without the history[1.2(0.8, 1.5) vs.1.0(0.7, 1.4), P<0.01]. Conclusions:Serum levels of immunoglobulins and complements are different among centenarians of different ages, genders, ethnicities and diet habits.Factors such as advanced age, female gender, ethnic minority and milk drinking tend to promote the expression of immunoglobulins and complements.

Objective: To investigate the influence of esculentoside A（EsA） on production of IL-1 and TNF by rabbit synovial cells induced by LPS. Methods: levels of IL-1 and TNF in the supernatant of rabbit synovial cell were determined by examining proliferation of thymic cells and by bioassay L929 cells as target cells, respectively. Results: EsA in 5-40 μg/ml could significantly inhibit the production of IL-1 and TNF from rabbit synovial cells induced by LPS. Conclusion: EsA can inhibit the production of IL-1 and TNF from synovial cells. It suggests that EsA may play a role in improving the rheumatoid arthritis.

Our previous studies showed that the proto-oncogene c-erbB₂ played an important role in primordial follicles growth. The present study was conducted to investigate the role of MAPK and PKC signaling pathways in the primordial follicle onset in neonatal rats, and the relationship between c-erbB₂ and MAPK/PKC signaling pathways. Ovaries collected from 2-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats were cultured in the Waymouth culture system in vitro. Ovaries were transfected with c-erbB₂ siRNA, or treated with PD98059 (50 mumol/L) or Calphostin (0.5 mumol/L) in the culture medium. RT-PCR was performed to measure the expression of c-erbB₂ mRNA, and Western blot analysis was performed to measure the expression of ErbB₂, MAPK and PKC protein after the neonatal rat ovaries were cultured for 8 d. The quantities of every-stage follicles of ovaries cultured for 8 d were obtained in histological section stained with hematoxylin eosin. The results showed that c-erbB₂ siRNA reduced the levels of c-erbB₂ mRNA (P<0.01) and the levels of ErbB₂, MAPK and PKC protein (P<0.01) significantly. But the levels of c-erbB₂ mRNA and ErbB₂ protein exhibited no change (P>0.05) in the ovaries cultured with PD98059 or Calphostin. After the ovaries were transfected with c-erbB₂ siRNA or cultured with PD98059 or Calphostin for 8 d, the quantities of primary follicles and second follicles were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), but the quantity of the primordial follicles was higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). These results suggest that proto-oncogene c-erbB₂ promotes the initiation of primordial follicle growth through the MAPK and PKC signal transduction, and c-erbB₂ is possibly the upstream of PKC and MAPK signaling pathway in the regulation of primordial follicle onset.

AIMTo study the chemical constituents of the water-extracts of Selaginella tamariscina (Beauv.) Spring.

METHODSVarious chromatographic techniques were used to separate and purify the constituents. Their physico-chemical properties and spectral data were used to elucidate the structures.

RESULTSNine compounds were isolated and identified as (2R,3S)-dihydro-2- (3',5'-dimethoxy-4'-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxy-5-acetyl-benzofuran (1), 3-hydroxy-phenpropionic acid-(2'-methoxy-4'-carboxy-phenol) ester (tamariscina ester A, 2), sygringaresinol (3), 1-(4'-hydroxyl-3'-methoxyphenyl)glycerol (4), ferulic acid (5), caffeic acid (6), vanillic acid (7), syringic acid (8), and umbelliferone (9).

CONCLUSIONCompound 1 and 2 are new compounds, and the others were isolated from Selaginella for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical symptom and effect of arthroscopic treatment of symptomatic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) cysts of the knee.

METHODSClinical data from 12 symptomatic ACL cysts patients from January 2005 to December 2010 were retrospectively analyzed,including 8 males and 4 females,with an average age of (33.7±9.5) years old (ranged, 19 to 53 years old). The locations were the left knee in 5 cases and the right knee in 7 cases. The disease duration ranged from 3 to 48 months,with a mean of (15.8±13.2) months. All cysts were arthroscopically resected. Range of motion was measured preoperatively and postoperatively, and Lysholm scoring system was used to evaluate the knee function.

RESULTSAll the incisions healed by first intention, and no complications occurred. Twelve patients were followed up for an average of (32.3±6.6) months(ranged, 24 to 48 months). The symptoms of arthralgia,swelling and interlocking of the affected knees disappeared. There was no recurrence during the follow-up. There were significant differences in the range of motion and Lysholm score between pre-operation and post-operation.

CONCLUSIONArthroscopic surgery, showing its advantages of minimal invasion and rapid recovery,is an effective measure in the treatment of ACL cysts.

Objective To investigate the safety and therapeutic effects ot a novel multi-layer flat-plate bioartificial liver (BAL) for patients with liver failure.Methods Thirty-eight patients with liver failure from Dec.2010 to Dec.2011 were treated with a novel BAL based on multi-layer flatplate bioreactor and the co-cultured cells of the porcine hepatocytes and mesenchymal stem cells.A total of 48 treatments was performed,4 h each time.The clinical signs and symptoms,liver function,ammonia,coagulation function and complete blood count were evaluated before,during and after the treatment.DNA in the collected PBMCs was extracted for PCR with PERV specific primers and the porcine specific primer Sus scrofa cytochrome B.The RT activity was detected as well.Levels of xenoantibodies (IgG,IgM) were determined by using ELISA kit. Titers of complement were quantified by CH50 kit.Results All treatment procedures were completed successfully without any adverse reaction. All samples presented negative PERV DNA and RT activity. The levels of antibodies were similar before and after treatment.Treatment was associated with a temporary decline in levels of complement,and then the levels were recovered quickly.The clinical symptoms such as acratia,anorexia and abdominal distension were improved.The stage of hepatic encephalopathy in 16 patients was decreased. The liver function and ammonia was reduced disproportionately. Seven patients in all were bridged to liver transplantation,2 patients died and 2 patients gave up the treatment,and the others were turned better.After the outcome judgment according to the standard developed by the Artificial Liver Group,and Chinese Association of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases,there were 9 patients with clinical healing,25 patients with improvement and 4 patients with no effect,and the cure-improvement rate was 89.5％.Conclusion The novel multi-layer flat-plate BAL could be used as a safe and effective therapy for patients with liver failure.
