International Eye Science 2015;(4):717-719
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of vitrectomy and pan-retinal photocoagulation followed with Ahmed implantation in management of neovascular glaucoma ( NVG) retrospectively.
METHODS: Vitrectomy combined with pan retinal photocoagulation and Ahmed implantation was performed on 15 cases ( 15 eyes ) with NVG. All patients were followed up for 12 ~ 36mo. The change of intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuity, neovascularization of iris, complications were observed.
RESULTS: The visual acuity of 10 eyes was improved postoperative. IOP of postoperative 1, 6 and 12mo were decreased significantly compared with preoperative ( P<0.01 ) . Neovascularization of iris was reduced dramatically. No serious complications occurred.
CONCLUSION: Vitrectomy combined with pan retinal photocoagulation followed Ahmed implantation can manage NVG effectively.

Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2011;32(7):693-696
Objective To estimate the life expectancy of persons with physical disabilities in China based on data related to representative national disability. Methods Life table technique was used to estimate the life expectancy and its standard error by various characteristics on the basis of average mortality rates from the monitoring cases during 2007-2010.Results (1)Females were expected to live longer than males. The life expectancy at birth for females was 63 years with standard error(SE)=2.6 while for males it was 55 years(SE=3.1).(2)Persons aged 35-50 in urban areas had higher life expectancy than those in rural areas.(3)Life expectancy of persons with mild disability [62.5 years(SE=2.4)] was higher than that of persons with severe disability[42 years(SE=5.4)].(4)Life expectancies of persons with physical disability were much lower than that of the Chinese general population.Gaps of male and female life expectancy at birth were 17.1 years and 12.7 years, respectively. Conclusion Persons with physical disability had higher mortality and actions should be taken to improve their life expectancy, accordingly.

Objective To construct and express recombinant cecropin B-binding site of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone(CB-LHRH')gene,and to evaluate the anticancer function of CB-LHRH' on human ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3 and human endometrial cancer cell line HEC-1B.Methods The sequence of the cDNA encoding CB-LHRH' was designed, artificially synthesized, verified by DNA sequence analysis and expressed by Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression system. The expression of CB-LHRH' proteins were identified by western dot blot using rabbit polyclonal antibody against LHRH as the primary antibody. To determine the anticancer effects of the CB-LHRH' protein, ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3 and endometrial adenocarcinoma cell line HEC-1B were treated by different doses of the CB-LHRH' protein.Cell growth inhibition assay was performed using the 2,3-bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)5[(phenylamino) carbonyl]-2H-tetrazolium hydroxide(XTT)kit at different times, and cell morphologic changes were observed under the inverted microscope. Results The inhibitory rate of proliferation by CB-LHRH' increased with the increase of dose and time respectively:SKOV3 cell,from(5.03?0.08)% to(53.24 ?1.22)%;HEC-1B cell,from(5.13?0.37)% to(56.16?1.08)%.The inhibitory effect on HEC-1B cell was stronger than that on SKOV3 cell(P

Objective To investigate the effects of electrical stimulation on the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) andinterleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α) in adult rats with spinal cord injury. Methods 72 adult SD rats were randomly divided into damage group (n=24), electrical stimulation group (n=24) and normal group (n=24). The spinal cord incomplete injury model on T9 was made with Allen'smethod in the former 2 groups. The rats in electrical stimulation group accepted electrical stimulation for 7 d. All the rats were evaluatedwith the Basso, Beattie & Bresnahan locomotor rating scale (BBB scale), and the expression of GFAP and IL-1α were determined with immunohistochemistry. Results The BBB scores in both the damage group and electrical stimulation group were significantly less than that inthe normal group (P<0.05), and it was more in the electrical stimulation group than in the damage group 5 and 7 d after injury. The expressionsof the GFAP significantly increased after injury to the peak on 5th day, while it was less in the electrical stimulation group than in thedamage group 5 and 7 d after injury (P<0.05). The expressions of the IL-1α increased continually after injury, while it was less in the electricalstimulation group than in the damage group 5 and 7 d after injury (P<0.05). Conclusion Electrical stimulation can inhibit the expressionof GFAP and IL-1α, that reduce inflammation and glial scar formation.

Objective Radiological grade of splenic injury was seldomly used in China trauma center now, though it had been established in 1994 by American Association for Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and widely used. The present study is aimed to analyze the imaging grade and clinical characteristics of traumatic splenic rupture in children, discuss the feasibility of conservative treatment, and the role of radiographic grading during clinical treatment. Methods Information (including age, gender, severity based on radiological findings, treatment strategies, and clinical outcome) regarding 59 hospitalized splenic injury patients whose injuries occurred between 2008 and 2014 was retrospectively analyzed. Results Between 2008 and 2014,59 pediatric patients with splenic injury were treated in our institution.Median age was 9.5 years (range,3 months to 16 years).Of all patients,41 (69.5%) were male. The injuries were primarily caused by traffic crash (45.7%),stumbling/falling from a height (38.9%).According to AAST,5 cases were grade Ⅰ,26 patients grade Ⅱ (44.1%),and 21 cases grade Ⅲ (35.6%),6 over grade Ⅳ,and only one was unclear.Of all patients,25 cases were with the other organs complications. All patients underwent fasting, bed rest, and antibiotics.Only 1 case was transferred to operation during the conservative treatment.Forty-nine patients underwent with CT scan over 2 times. Conclusion Imaging classification helps guide clinical treatment.Conservative treatment is feasible for traumatic splenic injury in children.Early imaging classification of splenic injury may be helpful in clinical judgment, and reduce children radiation exposure.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of combined therapy for amblyopia in children by making use of pattern visual evoked potential ( P-VEP) game.
METHODS: This was a prospective case control study. These asthenopic children were divided into two groups. The control group ( 66 eyes of 49 patients ): occlusive therapy with glasses, cover, precision work, red light treatment and so on, later the stereo vision training was added. The experimental group (72 eyes of 52 patients):conventional methods mentioned above with P - VEP games.
RESULTS: The total effective rate and cure rate of experimental group in 6mo were higher than those of control group. The overall effective rate was 94. 4% in the experimental group and 83. 3% in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between them (P<0. 05).
CONCLUSION: The comprehensive therapy by making use of P-VEP game is an individualized effective new way in treating amblyopia.
