Objective: To discuss the value of congenital hypertrophy retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE) in diagnosis of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Methods: Twenty-two FAP patients who have received treatment in our department (January 2001 to June 2003) and 10 patients with sporadic colorectal polys (as control group) were subjected to optical fundus examination. The incidence, morphological feature and distribution of CHRPE were analyzed. Results: Seventeen (81.8%) of the 22 FAP patients were found to have CHRPE in optical fundus. The lesions showed a bilateral and multiple(≥2) distribution along the peripheral vessels with oval pigmentation. One patient was found to have CHRPE in the control group. Conclusion: Optical fundus examination is a highly sensitive and specific adjuvant diagnosis for FAP. It is a safe and effective way for screening FAP in FAP family members.

Objective: To analyze the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis and to discuss the possible role of COX-2 in adenoma formation and cancerization. Methods: The aden oma specimens were obtained from 10 FAP patients (2001-2003). Different sizes (≤0.5 cm and ≥1 cm) of adenomas and cancerous adenomas were subjected to Envision immunohistochemistry for analysis of COX-2 protein expression. Results: COX-2 was mainly detected in epithelial cells, with some in interstitial cells. When ≤0.5 cm, COX-2 expression in adenomatous epithelial cells was stronger than in normal epithelial cells (P> 0.05); the same was true when ≥1.0 cm, but with statistical significance (P<0.01). The expression of COX-2 in different sizes of adenomas was significantly different (P<0.01), with that in ≥1.0 cm adenomas stronger than that in ≤0.5 cm adenomas. Expression of COX-2 in cancerous adenoma was stronger than that in normal epithelial cells (P<0.01) and epithelial cells of ≥1.0 cm adenomas (P>0.05). Conclusion: COX-2 may be a stimulative factor in the progression of FAP and may participate in adenoma formation and cancerization. Selective inhibition of COX-2 may be an effective strategy for preventing FAP.

Objective To determine whether an environmental intervention tailored to each patient's allergic sensitization and environmental risk factors could improve asthma-related outcomes. Methods Irritant or allergen sensitivity determined by the patient's exposure history and confirmed with skin test. Patients were asked to record 2-week days without symptoms, days off-work(or school) and ?2-agonist puffs. Pulmonary function was also examined. Ninety-six asthmatics with atopic asthma (aged 16-78 years) were randomly assigned to a control group, an intervention group that received an educational handout monthly for 2 months. Asthmatics of both groups inhalded budesonide at a daily dose 200-800 ?g and ?2-agonist as needed. Environmental intervention lasted six months and included education and remediation for exposure to allergens. The control group had no special recommendations. Results The intervention group had more days without symptoms compared with the control group (13.4 vs.10.1days, P

Two parental strains BY-14 and BY-6,with high leavening ability in lean and sweet dough respectively,were selected.Through spore production and separation,two haploids with opposition types were selected for cross-breeding.At last one hybridization strain was obtained,with good fermentation ability as BY-14 in lean dough and better than BY-6 by 25%in sweet dough.

Objective To explore the prevalence of ETS gene fusion in prostate cancer and its correlation with patient's clinicopathologic index.Methods Ninety-one samples from prostate needle biopsy cases with median age 75 (55-90) years and 18 samples from radical prostatectomy cases with median age 72 (63-81) years were collected from Oct.2010 to Feb.2012.TMPRSS2-ERG,TMPRSS2-ETV1 and TMPRSS2-ETV4 fusions were tested by multi-probe fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay.Fusion positive and negative cases were compared with age,TNM stage,Gleason score (median Gleason score 7 (6-9)),and PSA value (median PSA 33.4 μg/L,mcan PSA 118.8 μg/L).In needle biopsy cases,there were early stage 32 (34％),locally advanced prostate cancer 36 (40％),metastasis 23 (26％) ; in radical prostatectomy cases,there were 9 cases in T2 stage,8 cases in T3 stage,1 cases in T4a stage,respectively.Results TMPRSS2-ERG fusions were present in 14.3％ (13/91,95％ confidence interval,0.071-0.215)biopsy specimens and in 11.1％ (2/18,95％ confidence interval,0-0.256) radical prostatectomy specimens.No TMPRSS2-ETV1 or TMPRSS2-ETV4 fusions were found in any cases.Altogether,13 (86.7％)cases possessed deletion pattern.And 7 (46.6％) hold insertion pattern.5 cases had both deletion and insertion pattern.38.5％ (5/13) deletion pattern had distant metastasis.Except one metastatic case harbored both deletion and insertion pattern,there was no insertion pattern accompanied with metastasis.There were no differences between fusion positive and negative cases in the distribution of age (P =1.000),PSA (P =1.138),primary Gleason score (P=2.186),Gleason score (P=2.107),TNM stage (P=2.052) and Risk Degree (P=2.597).Conclusions The TMPRSS2-ERG fusion positive cases harbor more deletion pattern than insertion pattern.There are no differences between fusion positive and negative cases in the distribution of age,PSA,Gleason score,TNM stage and Risk Degree.

Objective To investigate the present situation of anticoagulant therapy on the elderly non valvular atrial fibrilla‐tion (NVAF) hospitalized patients with thromboembolic complications [ischemic stroke ,transient ischemic(TIA)] .Methods A to‐tal of 255 hospital patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from 2012 to 2014 were recorded by retrospective case analysis .The basic characteristics ,the risk factors of AF ,the medical treatment plan and INR monitoring were analyzed respectively with SPSS20 .0 statistical software .Results A total of 255 patients were enrolled ,66 cases (25 .88% ) were treated with anticoagulation ,and 157 cases (61 .57% ) were treated by antiplatelet drugs .In patients who were taken anticoagulant drugs ,the rate of INR was 15 .15% .Conclusion In the elderly nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients with thromboembolic compli‐cations ,the rate of anticoagulant therapy is lower than expected .More than half patients were treated by antiplatelet drugs .The pa‐tient who were treated anticoagulation therpy had a low rate of INR standard rate .

Objective To investigate the present situations of anticoagulant treatment of non-valvular atri-al fibrillation in order to get better guidance of the clinical anticoagulant therapy and reduce the incidence of stroke caused by atrial fibrillation. Methods The clinical data of NVAF patients hospitalized in the first affili-ated hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 1 , 2012 to December 31 , 2014 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed in terms of basic characteristics , medical treatment plan and INR monitoring. Results A total of 1,390 patients were enrolled, 85.97% of whom needed anticoagulant therapy and 25.18% of whom were treated with anticoagulants. For 15.71% of the NVAF patients treated with warfarin , INR met the standard during hospitalization. In the study, such factors as age, coronary heart disease, history of stroke and history of bleed-ing might affect prescription of anticoagulant drugs. Conclusion Most NVAF patients need anticoagulant thera-py, but the rate of anticoagulant therapy is lower than we expected. Among those patients treated with warfarin during hospitalization , the rate of INR meeting the standard is at a lower level. The novel oral anticoagulants are not in wide use in the clinical practice.

Objective To simulate the mechanical environment of cells in vivo and study cellular signal transduction mechanisms. Methods A device was developed which could provide high cell yield, control the time, strain magnitude, direction and frequency of stretch, and applied 10% cyclic strain to cell culture substrate with stretch frequency at 1Hz. Results After being stretched, morphology and cytoskeleton of cells were altered. The major axis of cells and the alignment of stress fibers were vertical to the orientation of cyclic stretch. Conclusion This device provides versatile options for the study on the cellular responses of mechanical loading.
