1.Vitrectomy of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in morning glory syndrome
International Eye Science 2010;10(3):424-426
We report a case of retinal detachment in morning glory syndrome(MGS). We think that identification of the retinal break, removal of the traction force by vitrectomy, the use of long-acting gas as endotamponade, all contributed to the successful treatment of the disease. The pathogenic mechanisms of the disease and the function of B-scan to the diagnosis are included.

Objective To investigate the mechanisms of attachment of respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) to human airway epithelial cells. Methods Attachment of RSV to CFBE was quantitatively assessed by flow cytometry.Various polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies to RSV and heparin were pre-incubated with RSV.The blocking effects of these antibodies and heparin on attachment were evaluated. Results CFBE cells reduced capacity being bound by RSV.All the antibodies used were failed to block attachment of RSV on CFBE,whereas heparin blocked RSV attachment in a dose-response manner and the blokade by heparin was almost complete at the concentration of 0.4 mg/L.Conclusions Flow cytometry provides direct evaluation of attachment without growth of virus.Heparin-like molecules on cell surface of CFBE appears to be involved in attachment between RSV and human epithelial cells.

Objective To understand the ‘ problem behavior' and influencing factors during job haunting of medical students and to provide guidance for students. Methods Totally 409 medical students who had graduated or were going to graduate but all having the experiences of applying for jobs were surveyed with self-made questionnaire.Likert 5 points scoring method was employed to evaluate the job hunting and SPSS 17.0 seftware was used to do statistical analysis. Results The ‘ problem behaviors' with the highest scores were conformism and comparison [(3.93 ± 0.628) and (3.80 ± 0.847) respectively)].Self factors influencing students' behavior in career choice included the capacity for self-definition (3.62 ± 0.855),personal values (3.55 ± 0.893) and legal awareness (3.51 ± 1.039).Meanwhile,the factor with the highest score was education cost (3.93 ± 0.887).Besides,influences of family expectation (3.43 ± 0.945),employment environment (3.40 ± 0.940) and college educational system (3.28 ± 1.038) were also outstanding. Conclusions Medical students'‘ problem behaviors' during job hunting are diverse and are influenced by many factors. So,we are supposed to strengthen the education and guidance from the self factors, combining the actions of school, family and society to promote medical students' employment.
9. Research progress in Euryale ferox: A Chinese herb
Journal of International Pharmaceutical Research 2015;42(2):160-164
The seed. coat, petiole and peduncle of Euryale feroxibelonging to Nymphaeaceae) are used as medicinal potions through solvent extraction, reflux extraction and ultrasonic extraction, and purification on macroporous resin. The quality controls are performed by near infra-red fingerprint spectrum. HPLC. X-ray diffraction Fourier spectrum, and ITS2 barcode. The nutrients of E. ferox contain large amount of amino acids, fatty acids and various microelements; medicinal ingredients are identified to be polyphenol, sesquineolignan. tocopherol, cerebroside, and cyclic dipeptide. The pharmacological effects of E. ferox extracts include antioxidant, free radical scavenging, hypoglycemic activity, decreasing urine protein, bacteriostasis and prevention of gastric mucosal injury. Treatment with E. ferox preparations for diabetes and chronic nephritis are performed in clinics. This review summarizes the study of E. ferox in recent years for further research and development.
10. Effect of euryale ferox seeds ethanol extract on renal function of diabetic nephropathy rats and determination of its antioxidant ability in vitro
Journal of International Pharmaceutical Research 2015;42(3):380-385
Objective To investigate the effect of Euryale ferox seeds ethanol extract on renal funtion of diabetic nephropathy (DN) induced by strepotozotocin (STZ) in rats and the antioxidant ability of ethanol extract, water extract supernatant and precipitation. Methods Ethanol extract of Euryale ferox seeds were prepared by ethanol extraction and followed by evaporation and freeze-dry. The seeds residue was further extracted with water and precipitated with ethanol to obtain water extract supernatant and precipitation. Sprague Dawley male rats were given intraperitoneal injection of STZ at a dose of 60 mg/kg to induce DN. STZ-induced DN rats were administrated by gavage with different dose of Euryale ferox seeds ethanol extract (75, 150, 300 and 600 mg/ kg body weight) once daily for 12 weeks. 24 h urine was collected for examining urinary protein and microalbumin every four weeks. Blood serum was also collected for examining of serum creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level after rats sacrificed at the end of 12 weeks after administration, and the pathological changes of kidney were observed. Antioxidant capacity of the three extracts were determined by Fe3z reduction, and radical scavenging rate to 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)hydrazl (DPPH), 02" and OH" free radicals. Results Compared with model group, the content of 24 h urine protein and urine microalbumin of DN rats were reduced in all Euryale ferox seeds ethanol extract administration groups, and 24 h proteinuria were significantly reduced in the group of 150 and 600 mg/kg administration (P<0.05); BUN level was also reduced in all dose of Euayale ferox seeds ethanol extract administration, and more remarkably reduced in the group of 300mg/kg (P<0.01). 12 weeks after administration, kidney damage amelioration was observed in pathological sections of rats in Euryale ferox seeds ethanol
