This study aimed at evaluating the quality of precise powder decoction pieces (PPDP) of E.Folium (EF) compared with the traditional commercial slices by chemical fingerprint methods and DNA molecular identification technology.Different specifications of PPDP were prepared, and their dry extract contents were in contrast with that of commercial slices. The slices of EF were identified using ITS2 and psbA-trnH sequences.Three batches of commercial slices were collected, and the content uniformity, fingerprint and similarity evaluation before and after the mixing and pulverization were detected by HPLC-DAD and DNA sequence alignment. It was found that the paste rate of PPDP was slightly higher than that of the traditional commercial slices. The dissolution of chlorogenic acid of PPDP was higher than that of the traditional commercial slices.RSD of inter-assay dissolutions of chlorogenic acid of commercial slices was 15.56%,which was reduced to 6.82% after mixing and preparing into PPDP.The fingerprints showed that the similarity of the PPDP of EF was elevated with the inceases of 10 marketed common peaks. The PPDP of EF was accurately identified by ITS2 and psbA-trnH sequences. In conclusion, compared with traditional commercial slices of EF,the PPDP apparently improved the dissolution rate and the quality uniformity, demonstrated that the boiled powder of CRP achieved obvious clinic advantages.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the indication and outcome of volar Barton fracture treated by nonoperative method.
METHODSTwenty-three cases of volar Barton fracture treated by closed method included 8 male and 15 female with an average age of 52.2 years, ranging 16 to 84 years. Among them, 16 cases showed subluxation of the carpus (15 cases were Mehara type I ,1 case was Mehara type III) by radiographs except the other 7 cases. By the experimentation in 32 cadavers, the injury of dorsal radiocarpal ligament was supposed to be a very important cause of the subluxation of the radiocarpal joint. The criteria of Pattee and Thompson was used to evaluate the outcome of the treatment.
RESULTSTwenty-three patients were followed up for 7 to 70 months, 11 cases gained satisfactory outcome (1 case as excellent, 10 cases as good), 12 cases gained unsatisfactory outcome (5 cases as fair, 7 cases as poor). Five of 7 cases without the subluxation of the carpus by the radiographs gained satisfactory outcome. Six of 16 cases with the subluxation of the carpus gained satisfactory outcome.
CONCLUSION(1) The result of reduction will influence the outcome of the treatment, the step on articular surface shoud be less than 2 mm after reduction. (2) Nonoperative method is recommended if volar Barton fractures are not associated with subluxation of the carpus. (3) Nonoperative method can be tried first if the fractures associated with the subluxation of the carpus, however operation is recommended when the articular step is more than 2 mm.

AIM: To study the immunological protection of H. pylori vaccine with chitosa as adjuvant. METHODS: One-grade female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into nine groups and immunized by ①PBS alone; ②chitosan solution alone; ③chitosan particles alone; ④H. pylori antigen alone; ⑤H. pylori antigen plus chitosan solution; ⑥H. pylori antigen plus chitosan particles; ⑦H. pylori antigen plus CT; ⑧H. pylori antigen plus chitosan solution and CT; ⑨H. pylori antigen plus chitosan particles and CT. At 4 weeks after the last immunization, these mice were challenged by alive H. pylori(1?1012CFU/L) twice at two-day intervals. At 4 weeks after the last challenge, these mice were all killed and gastric mucosa were embedded in paraffin, sectioned and assayed with Giemsa staining. The other gastric mucosa were used to quantitatively culture with H. pylori. ELISA was used to detect H.pylori IgA in saliva and gastric mucosa and anti-H.pylori IgG, IgG1, IgG2a in serum, and immunohistochemical method was used to examine sIgA in gastric mucosa. RESULTS: ①In the groups with chitosan as adjuvant, 60% mice achieved immunological protection, which was according to that with CT as adjuvant (58.33%), and was significantly higher than H. pylori antigen alone and other groups without H. pylori antigen(P0.05)and were significantly higher than those in non-adjuvant groups, while those in the groups with chitosan plus CT were significantly higher than those in the group with CT as an adjuvant(P

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the antimicrobial effects of erythromycin microspheres against Mycoplasma pneumoniae in rats.
METHODSWith erythromycin lactobionate as the positive control, erythromycin microspheres at 3 non-toxic doses (0.1, 0.5, and 1.2 g.kg(-1).d(-1)) were administered intragastrically for 6 consecutive days in Wistar rats with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. The general condition and lung index of the rats were observed and measured to assess the therapeutic effects of the treatments against Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.
RESULTSThe erythromycin microspheres at 0.1, 0.5, 1.2 g.kg(-1).d(-1) significantly alleviated the symptoms of the rats infected with Mycoplasma pneumoniae and reduced the pulmonary index of the infected rats from 1.75 to 1.45, 1.38 and 1.25, respectively (P < 0.01). An obvious dosage-effect relationship was noted between the dose of erythromycin microsphere and the tissue pathologies due to the infection.
CONCLUSIONErythromycin microspheres possess strong activity against Mycoplasma pneumoniae in rats.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2004;39(1):13-16
AIMTo investigate the antioxidant mechanisms of propylene glycol mannate sulfate (PGMS) in hyperlipidemic rats.
METHODSMale Wistar rats were given high lipid emulsion diet to establish hyperlipidemic model. PGMS was given every day at different doses (37.8 and 75.6 mg.kg-1, ig) to hyperlipidemic rats for three weeks. In addition, diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC) was given 200 mg.kg-1.3 d-1 (i.p.) to inhibit SOD activity. Then, the MDA content was examined using TBA method to show the oxidation level, and the activities of SOD, GSH-Px and CAT were examined following the kit protocols to indicate the capability of eliminating OFR. RT-PCR was applied to study the expression of Cu, Zn-SOD mRNA in rat liver.
RESULTSThe MDA content of PGMS treatment groups decreased markedly compared with hyperlipidemic group, and the activities of SOD, GSH-Px and CAT increased distinctly. Cu, Zn-SOD mRNA expression was significantly increased by PGMS treatment. Furthermore, the application of DDC(the SOD inhibitor) reduced total SOD activity and Cu, Zn-SOD mRNA expression induced by PGMS, and the content of MDA increased correspondingly.
CONCLUSIONPGMS can induce the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the mRNA expression of Cu, Zn-SOD, which contribute to the elimination of oxygen free radical. This may explain the molecular mechanism of antioxidant effects of PGMS.
