OBJECTIVETo investigate the precise locations of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding the seminal vesicles (SV) in men and provide some anatomical evidence for SV-related minimally invasive surgery.
METHODSWe observed the courses and distribution of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding SVs and obtained the data for positioning the SV neuroplexes in 20 male pelvises.
RESULTSOne branch of the neuroplexes was distributed to the SVs bilaterally with the neurovascular bundles, (2.85 ± 0.18) cm from the median sulcus of the prostate (MSP), while another branch ran through the Denonvillier fascia behind the SV, (0.81 ± 0.06) cm from the MSP. The arterial SVs (ASV) originated from the inferior vesical artery and fell into 4 types, 55% going directly to the SVs as one branch, 15% running between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct as another branch, 25% downward as 2 branches to the SV and between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct respectively, and 5% as the other ASVs. The shortest distance from the ASV through the prostatic neuroplexus to the posterior SV was (1.08 ± 0.09) cm.
CONCLUSIONIn SV resection, neuroplexus injury can be reduced with a bilateral distance of < 2.85 cm and a posterior distance of < 0.81 cm from the MSP, and so can bleeding by vascular ligation between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct.

National Journal of Andrology 2002;8(1):51-53
OBJECTIVESTo evaluate the efficacy of selective alpha 1A-adrenergic receptor antagonists for the treatment chronic abacterial prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS).
METHODSFrom October 2000 to September 2001, a selective alpha 1A-adrenergic receptor antagonists, tamsulosin, had been used in 43 patients with CPPS for four weeks. 0.2 mg dosage was given daily, and uroflowmetry was followed. Symptom scores were evaluated by the NIH-chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSI) before and after the treatment.
RESULTSThese patients had a clinically significant response to the treatment of tamsulosin. Of these, thirty two patients (74.5%) responded to one month therapy and had a decrease in NIH-CPSI scores, while maximal urinary flow rate (MFR) and average urinary flow rate (AFR) in patients with poor MFR improved 30.4% and 65.4%, respectively. No severe side effects were observed.
CONCLUSIONSIt is suggested that Tamsulosin, a selective alpha 1A-adrenergic receptor antagonist, is effective in the treatment of CPPS.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2008;33(8):878-883
OBJECTIVETo study the growth and propagation of Pinella ternata in cultivation.
METHODForty six populations of P. ternata originated from Sichuan, Shanxi province and chongqing city were collected and cultivated in experimental field under the same cultivation condition.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONReproduction tubers at the weight of 0.51-2.00 g (diameter 0.9 - 1.5 cm) had higher increments of tubers and general weight. The P. ternata populations originated from Peng-an county, Shehong county, Zhongjiang county, Lezhi county, Lu county grew faster, on the other hand, the populations originated from Lezhi county, Guangyuan county, Peng-an county, Jianyang county had stronger ability of propagation. The sprouting rate of above 0.30 g (diameter 0.7 cm) tubers was about 90%. There was no significant difference in the growth between tubers and bulbils that have the same weight. The two factors that affected the yield increment were weight range and population, and the former was the main one. Significantly positive correlations were found between weight of reproduction tuber and weight of harvested tubers, number of bulbils. However, significantly negative correlations were found between weight of reproduction tuber and weight increments of tubers, increments proportion of tubers and general weight, and a negative correlations was found between weight of reproduction tuber and general weight increments. Curve-estimated models were conjectured about the weight of reproduction tuber and growth or propagation parameters such as the diameter, the sprouting rate, increments of tubers and general weight, increments proportion of tubers and general weight and the number of bulbils. Some proposals to improve the cultivation of P. ternate were suggested.

OBJECTIVETo study the correlation of eating raw fish with primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC), and to investigate the synergistic effect of HBV infection, alcohol consumption and eating raw fish on the oncogenesis of PHC.
METHODSA hospital-based case-control study was conducted among 500 PHC patients and 500 non-cancerous patients in order to compare the history of eating raw fish. The synergistic pathogenetic action of eating raw fish, HBV infection and alcohol consumption on carcinogenesis of PHC was analyzed by crossover analysis and multiple logistic regression.
RESULTSThe rates of eating raw fish in the past between the case (54.8%) and the control group (8.4%) were significantly different (P < 0.001). OR value of suffering PHC in the patients who ate raw fish in the past was 13.6 (95% CI: 9.1-19.5) when compared with the non-cancerous patient. HBV infection, alcohol consumption and eating raw fish showed an interactive effect on the development of PHC, with a relative excessive risk of interaction(RERI) of 195.3 and 17.8; attributable proportion of interaction (API) of 0.8630 and 0.5251; and synergy index (S) of 7.5 and 2.8, respectively.
CONCLUSIONA history of eating raw fish may be an important risk factor for suffering primary hepatic carcinoma. HBV infection, alcohol consumption and eating raw fish may have a synergistic effect on the developing of primary hepatic carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo observe the outcome after sacral canal injection in patients with disc herniation associated with without sciatica.
METHODSFrom December 2010 to June 2011, 65 patients with acute low back pain without sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation or bulging confirmed by CT or MRI were randomly divided into sacral canal injection group (experimental group) and lumbar oblique wrench group (control group): the experimental group had 35 cases, including 30 males and 5 females, with an average age of (43.90 +/- 1.14) years old ranging from 33 to 56 years old. The control group had 30 cases, including 27 males and 3 females, with an average age of (44.00 +/- 1.19) years old ranging from 34 to 57 years old. The course of morbidity was 1 to 3 days. All patients received sacral canal injection or lumbar oblique wrench method. The visual analog scale (VAS) scores before and at 30 min after treatment were compared between two groups.
RESULTSThe symptom of acute low back pain were relieved obviously. The average VAS scores before and after treatment in experimental group were decreased from 6.63 +/- 0.97 to 3.06 +/- 1.51,in control group were from 6.67 +/- 0.96 to 3.93 +/- 1.20 respectively. These two methods could improve the VAS score, but the effect of sacral canal injection group was better than that of lumbar oblique wrench group, there was statistically differences (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIt is effective that the methods of sacral canal injection and lumbar oblique wrench applied to patients with acute low back pain without sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation or bulging confirmed, the former has better effect.

Journal of Zhejiang University. Medical sciences 2008;37(1):9-14
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of 50 Hz magnetic fields (MF) on DNA double-strand breaks in human lens epithelial cells (hLECs).
METHODSThe cultured human lens epithelial cells were exposed to 0.4 mT 50 Hz MF for 2 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h. Cells exposed to 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide, a DNA damage agent, at a final concentration of 0.1 micromol/L for 1 h were used as positive controls. After exposure, cells were fixed with 4 % paraformaldehyde and for H2AX (gamma H2AX) immunofluorescence measurement. gamma H2AX foci were detected at least 200 cells for each sample. Cells were classified as positive when more than three foci per cell were observed. Mean values of foci per cell and percentage of foci positive cells were adopted as indexes of DNA double-strand breaks.
RESULTThe mean value of foci per cell and the percentage of gamma H2AX foci positive cells in 50 Hz MF exposure group for 24 h were (2.93 +/-0.43) and (27.88 +/-2.59)%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of sham-exposure group [(1.77 +/-0.37) and (19.38+/-2.70)%, P <0.05], and the mean value of foci per cell and the percentage of gamma H2AX foci positive cells in 50 Hz MF exposure group for 48 h were (3.14 +/-0.35) and (31.00 +/-3.44)%, which were significantly higher than those of sham-exposure group (P <0.01). However there was no significant difference between 50 Hz MF exposure groups for 2 h, 6 h, 12 h and sham-exposure group for above two indexes (P >0.05).
CONCLUSION0.4 mT 50 Hz MF exposure for longer duration might induce DNA double-strand breaks in human lens epithelial cells in vitro.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2009;29(9):726-729
Needle-sticking method has essential differences from stuck needle induced by acupuncture accident. This manipulation refers to the needle-sticking manifestation induced by twirling the needle in one direction after arrival of qi so as to tangle muscle fibers, which can combined with some compound methods such as trembling, shaking, flying, lifting, plucking, dragging and so on. It is effective for excessive syndrome, pain syndrome, arthralgia syndrome, etc. and with functions of promoting flow of qi and inducing qi to carry out stimulating circulation of channel-qi, promoting the needling sensation propagating along the channel and accelerating qi reaching to the affected region. Its main adverse reactions are pain, tissue damage and so on. The selection of needling instruments, the needling depth, the twirling intensities and location of forbidden or careful application must be paid attention in concrete practice.

9.Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic prostatitis.
National Journal of Andrology 2003;9(7):483-488
So far the etiology of chronic prostatitis(CP), particularly chronic nonbacterial prostatitis(NBP) or chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), remains to be elucidated. According to recent epidemiologic data, the prevalence of CP ranged from 2.5% to 16% of the world population, affecting men of all ages and all ethnic origins. Since 1990s researchers of many countries have carried out largerscaled, deeper and more extensive studies than ever before on the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of the disease, with the sponsorship and coordination of such international institutions as the International Prostatitis Collaborative Network(IPCN), the Chronic Prostatitis Collaborative Research Network of the National Institute of Health (NIH-CPCRN) and so on. The main achievements of recent years include: the etiology of CP/CPPS being a complicated multi-step and multi-factor course, the establishment of the new clinical classification system, the introduction of the National Institute of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index, the new criteria of diagnosis and standardized clinical evaluation, the primary explorations of new treatment methods and medicines, etc. Further investigations suggested are the optimization of clinical classification, the screening and verification of treatment methods and medicines for CP/CPPS, etc.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2003;21(2):96-98
OBJECTIVETo investigate the toxic and DNA damaging effect of acrylamide (AA) on human keratinocytes and its mechanism.
METHODS(1) After the keratinocyte cell line HaCaT cells were exposed to AA with different concentrations for 44 hours, cell survival rate was detected by MTT method. (2) The effects of DNA damage of exposed cells were detected by comet assay. (3) After treating the cells with 2.00 mmol/L of AA plus 0.50 mmol/L of 1-aminobenzotriazole (1-ABT), an inhibitor of cytochrome P-450 enzymes (CYP-450), for 4 hours, the relationship between DNA damage and CYP-450 was studied.
RESULTS(1) Cytotoxicity measurement of AA showed that cell survival rate decreased significantly after 44-hour treatment. (2) Cytotoxicity was not detected after 4-hour AA treatment, but significant DNA damage was observed in all treatment groups, and the degree of damage increased with the concentration of AA. Moreover, the tail lengths of comet cells were in dose-effect relationship. As for cells treated by 1-ABT with 2 mmol/L AA, comet rate and tail length were 15.4% and (8.2 +/- 2.0) micro m respectively, which were decreased significantly (P < 0.01) when compared with 2 mmol/L AA treatment group [80.6% and (44.3 +/- 4.0) micro m].
CONCLUSIONSAcrylamide has significant cytotoxicity and genotoxicity on HaCaT cells. AA-induced DNA damage may be related to the oxidative metabolite(s) of AA through CYP-450.
