Objective To evaluate effects of daily average temperature on the occurrence of urticaria in Lanzhou city, and to analyze differences in the effects between different populations. Methods Time-series data on daily outpatient visits for urticaria between January 1,2007 and December 31,2013 were collected from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University and Lanzhou University Second Hospital.Daily meteorological data during this peroid were obtained from the Gansu Meteorological Bureau.Distributed lag non-linear models were used to analyze the association between daily average temperature and occurrence of urticaria, and the analysis was stratified by age and gender. Results The association between daily average temperature and daily number of outpatient visits for urticaria was nonlinear.Low temperature had significant lag effects on the daily number of outpatient visits for urticaria, with the maximum relative risk (RR) value (1.014 [95% CI 1.000-1.023]) observed at 6 ℃ on lag day 18.Stratification analysis demonstrated that the effects of high temperature on the number of outpatient visits for urticaria were apparent on the day of exposure in age groups of 0-18 and 19-64 years, but decreased on the day of exposure in the age group ≥ 65 years. The effects of low temperature, which showed similar trends along with the increment of lag days in all groups, were relatively delayed and occurred 2 to 4 days after exposure. Conclusions Air temperature affects the occurrence of urticaria in Lanzhou city.Low temperature has evident lag effects on the occurrence of urticaria, while high temperature does not have.

OBJECTIVETo bioinformatically predict and analyze target genes of miRNA-126(*), with the aim of providing certain basis for related research about target genes and regulatory mechanism in the future.
METHODSThe miRNA chip technology was applied to measure expression levels of miRNA-126(*) in 3 time points (embryo 16, 19 and 21 days) of fetal lung development. Then the target genes of miRNA-126(*) were screened through miRGen2.0 database. Subsequent bioinformatic analysis of these target genes was performed by Gene Ontology analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes Pathway analysis (KEGG Pathway analysis).
RESULTSmiRNA-126(*) manifested continuously upregulated expression with the lung development (from embryo 16 to 21 days). There were 422 predicted target genes in total, and the gene set mainly located in glucuronosyltransferase activity, transferase activity (GO molecular function), multicellular organismal development, developmental process (GO biology process) and intracellular part (GO cellular component). The KEGG Pathway analysis demonstrated that the gene set mostly located in RNA degradation (signal transduction pathway) and prion diseases (disease pathway).
CONCLUSIONSThe results suggest that miRNA-126(*) plays a certain role in fetal lung development and provide a basis for lung development research in the future.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression and role of miRNA-126/miRNA-126(*) in the fetal lung development of rats.
METHODSTwelve pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups and the fetal rats were removed at 16, 19 and 21 days of gestation respectively. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed to observe lung morphology of fetal rats. Then microRNA (miRNA) microarray was used to study the expression patterns of miRNA-126/miRNA-126(*) in fetal lungs at the three time points. And miRNA-126(*) was selected for further study by real-time PCR.
RESULTSThere was no evident difference in the expression of miRNA-126 among the three groups, however the expression level of miRNA-126(*) increased gradually as the fetal lung developed. The real-time PCR result further showed that expression of miRNA-126(*) increased gradually with lung development, displaying significant differences among the three groups (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSmiRNA-126(*) may play an important role in development of the fetal lung in rats.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of continuous intraspinal ceftazidime administration for treatment of purulent meningitis due to Achromobacter infection.
METHODSA patient with established diagnosis of purulent meningitis due to Achromobacter infection was admitted, who failed to respond favorably to a 3-day ceftazidime treatment administered intravenously. Continuous intraspinal ceftazidime administration at the dose of 0.2 g/d was then attempted through a catheter placed in the cisterna magna in addition to intravenous ceftazidime for 3 days, which resulted in obvious relief of the symptoms. The catheter was subsequently withdrawn, and the patient received further treatment with additional intravenous ceftazidime for a week.
RESULTSThe symptoms of purulent meningitis was significantly improved after a 3-day continuous intraspinal ceftazidime administration, and the patient was eventually cured after completion of the treatment course. Intrathecal ceftazidime was also attempted previously but failed due to intolerance of pains in the legs. No relapse was observed in this case 3 months after the discharge.
CONCLUSIONContinuous intraspinal ceftazidime administration can be effective and safe for treatment of purulent meningitis.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of using Jiangzhi Tongluo Soft Capsule (JTSC) combined with Atorvastatin Calcium Tablet (ACT) or ACT alone in treatment of combined hyperlipidemia.
METHODSA randomized, double blinded, parallel control, and multi-center clinical research design was adopted. Totally 138 combined hyperlipidemia patients were randomly assigned to the combined treatment group (A) and the atorvastatin treatment group (B) by random digit table, 69 in each group. All patients took ACT 20 mg per day. Patients in the A group took JTSC 100 mg each time, 3 times per day. Those in the B group took JTSC simulated agent, 100 mg each time, 3 times per day. The treatment period for all was 8 weeks. Serum levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were observed before treatment, at week 4 and 8 after treatment; and safety was assessed as well.
RESULTSAt week 4 and 8 after treatment serum TG decreased by 26.69% and 33.29% respectively in the A group (both P < 0.01), while it was decreased by 25.7% and 22.98% respectively in the B group (both P < 0.01). At week 8 decreased serum TG was obviously higher in the A group than in the B group (P < 0.05). Compared with before treatment, serum levels of LDL-C and TC levels decreased significantly in the two groups (all P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in the drop-out value and the drop-out rate of serum LDL-C and TC levels (P > 0.05). At week 8 the serum HDL-C level showed an increasing tendency in the two groups. No obvious increase in peptase or creatase occurred in the two groups after treatment.
CONCLUSIONJTSC combined with ACT could lower the serum TG level of combined hyperlipidemia patients with safety.
