Objective To evaluate the effect of clinic-pathological variables on prognosis and recurrence of the aged women suffered from borderline epithelial ovarian tumors. Methods The clinical and follow-up data of 102 cases were analyzed retrospectively. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to assess independent prognosis and recurrence factors.Results The postoperative accessory treatment, peritoneal implantation and lymph nodes metastasis could influence the 5-year survival rate(χ2=19.311, 11.054, 18. 559, all P＜0.01). The surgery procedure, peritoneal implantation, lymph nodes metastasis and microinvasion could influence the recurrence rate(χ2=23.606, 23.583, 25.774, 23.583, all P＜0.01). The logistic regression model showed that the postoperative accessory treatment and peritoneal implantation were the two independent prognosis factors (OR=0.060, 35.319, all P＜0.01). The surgery procedure,peritoneal implantation and microinvasion were the three independent factors affecting recurrence(OR =0.001, P＜0.05;OR=60.952, P＜0.05;OR=88.874, P＜0.01). Conclusions The early standard treatment on borderline epithelial ovarian tumors of the aged women have an excellent prognosis, the risk of recurrence remains in some patients. We emphasize that these patients with highrisk factors should be main surveillance population.

Objective To investigate the effect of chymase on the proliferation of rat cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) and the role of transforming growth factor-?1 (TGF-?_1).Methods Cultured CFs of neonatal SD rats were isolated by trypsinization.Cell number and DNA synthesis were evaluated by MTT assay (A_(490) value) and [~3H]-deoxythy- midine [~3H]-TdR incorporation.The mRNA expression of TGF-?_1 in CFs was determined by RT-PCR.Results Chymase increased CFs numbers and [~3H]-TdR incorporation in a dose-dependent manner.The A_(490) value of CFs stimulated by 15,30 and 60 ng/mL chymase was 0.263?0.033,0.348?0.031 and 0.387?0.026,respectively, which were all significantly higher than that of control (0.201?0.019,P

Twelve compounds were isolated from the rhizome of Paris mairei Lévl by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS col-umn chromatographies. The structure elucidation was accomplished by ESI-MS and NMR methods. These compounds were identified as lupeol(1), lup-20(29) -ene-3β-yl octacosanoate(2), palmitic acid(3), glyceryl α-mono-palmitate(4), α-spinasterol(5), diosgenin (6), (25R) diosgenin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1--> 4) -α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1 --> 4) - [α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1 --> 2)] -β-D-glucopyranoside(7), pennogenin(8), pennogenin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1 -->3) - [α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1 --> 2)] -β-D-glucopyranoside(9), flazin(10), calonysterone(11), and isorhamnetin-3-O-β-gentiobioside(12). Compounds 1-5,10-11 were isolated from the genus Paris for the first time, and all compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Objective To determine the accuracy of femoral components sizing predicted by standardized digital templating in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).Methods Fifty consecutive patients (50 knees),who underwent primary TKAs for endstage osteoarthritis,were prospectively studied.The intra-operative and radiographic data were collected.All operations were performed by the same surgical techniques with PS type,open box Vanguard Complete Knee System.All patients underwent lateral and AP radiography of the involved knee under fluoroscopy before and after surgery.The distal femoral anteroposterior dimension (DFAP) were measured and the femoral components size were predicted on preoperative radiographs by two different methods:measurement of DFAP did not include (group A) the cartilage thickness of the medial posterior condyle or included that (group B).Cutting errors were corrected gradually,and DFAP was measured consequently.The most appropriate size was chose after each step respectively based on postoperative radiographs.The accuracy of femoral size predicted under different conditions was compared within two groups.Results During correction of cutting errors,the correct rate ranged from 18％ to 44％ in group A and from 26％ to 34％ in group B,the accuracy within one size ranged from 54％ to 84％ in group A and from 58％ to 84％ in group B.The cartilage thickness of medial posterior condylar,external rotation of femoral component,under-resected of anterior condylar,flexion of femoral component,and over-resected of posterior condylar can change the DFAP by 1.97±0.85 mm,1.56±2.06 mm,1.15±1.31 mm,-2.86±1.52 mm,and-0.87±0.77 mm,respectively.Conclusion Variation of intraoperative cutting errors and the cartilage thickness of medial posterior condyles can influence the accuracy of templating to some extent.Standardized digital radiography templating cannot predict femoral sizes accurately.

Objective:To determine the expression of BMP4 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to study the role of BMP4 in inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) to analyze the effect of BMP4 on the migration and invasion of HCC cells. Methods: The expression of BMP4 in HCC specimens was examined by immunohistochemistry staining, and the correlations were analyzed between the expression of BMP4 and clinicopathological data. The BMP4 expression plasmid was transfected into HepG2 cells to induce exogenous overexpression of BMP4 protein. The changes of HepG2 cell morphology were detected after BMP4 transfection by using a microscope; the changes of the expression of BMP4, EMT-related protein (E-cadherin, Vimentin) in HepG2 cells were detected by Western blot after transfection of BMP4;the wound healing assay in vitro was used to detect the effects of BMP4 gene transfection on the ability of migration of HepG2 cells;the invasion assay was used to determine the role of transfection of BMP4 on the invasive potential of HepG2 cells. Results: Immunohistochemistry staining method displayed that BMP4 expression was positively associated with age, histological differentiation, stage, and poor prognosis. After BMP4 overexpression, the morphology of HepG2 cells showed significant changes from a paving stone structure with cell-cell adhesion to a fibroblastic shape, which showed typical EMT change; Western blot exhibited that the expression of E-cadherin was downregulated and the Vimentin expression was upregulated in HepG2 cells;the wound healing and invasion assay showed that the migration and invasion potentials of HepG2 cells were significantly enhanced. Conclusion: BMP4, which displayed a high expression in HCC specimens, was closely associated with clinicopathologic data, and BMP4 may promote migration and invasion of HCC cells by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Objective To investigate the changes in high voltage-activated (HVA) calcium current in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons isolated from rats with neuropathic pain. Methods Pathogen-free male SD rats aged 4-6 weeks weighing 180-220 g were used in this study. The animals were anesthetized with intraperitoneal pentobarbital sodium 50 mg/kg. Neuropathic pain was induced by ligation of L5 spinal nerve between DRG and sciatic nerve. The nerve was transected distal to the ligature. The animals which showed positive signs of neuropathic pain were decapitated on the 14th postoperative day. L5 and L4 DRGs were isolated and the neurons in the ganglia were enzymatically dissociated (group L5 and L4). The control group received no surgery (group C). The HVA Ca2+ current was recorded using whole-cell patch clamp technique. Results Peak calcium current density was significantly lower in group L5 and L4 than in group C, and was significantly lower in group L5 than in group L4 . Halfactivation value (Va 1/2) was also significantly lower in group L5 than in group C and L4 (P ＜ 0.05). The relative contribution of N-type to the total HVA Ca2+ current was significantly greater in group L5 than in group C and L4(P ＜ 0.05). There was no significant difference in the steady-state inactivation curves among the 3 groups. Conclusion In rats with neuropathic pain, the HVA Ca2+ current in the injured DRG neurons may play a key role in the induction of neuropathic pain.
