Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is a common clinical disease causing vision loss. Risk factors such as diabetes, atherosclerosis are closely associated with RVO. Xuesaitong injection is used extensively in clinical treatment of RVO, however the mechanism is still unclear. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of Xuesaitong injection on RVO rat model. Using a compound-target network of Xuesaitong on anti-RVO constructed by literature mining, we aim to elucidate the multi-compound, multi-target effect of Xuesaitong injection. Fifteen potential targets of Xuesaitong injection associated with inflammation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, and coagulation were identified in this study. VEGF, IL-1beta and IL-6, three important targets in the compound-target network were further experimentally validated. This study provided experimental evidence for Xuesaitong injection being effective in treating RVO and a network view on its anti-RVO mode of action through a multi-compound and multiple-target mechanism.

Toxicogenomics (TGx) refers to a set of technologies that assess genome-wide responses after toxic agent exposure. Altered gene expression patterns that are caused by specific exposures reveal how toxicants may disrupt cellular processes and lead to side effects. Development and application of " omics" technology facilitate the toxicogenomic research which sharing and interpretation of the enormous amount of biological information generated in toxicologic field. In recent years TGx has been widely valued and successfully applied as an effective research tool to evaluate the toxic effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Here we reviewed current progress in the field of TGx and focused on its application in traditional Chinese medicine safety evaluation, especially in revealing the mechanism, finding potential toxic biomarkers and studying compatibility detoxification of TCM.

Journal of Forensic Medicine 2014;30(2):88-92
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the latency of posture evoked response of normal lower limb muscle in different stimulations and explore its influencing factors.
METHODS:
The normal lower limb was induced to produce postural evoked response by the dynamic posturography through two kinds of perturbations, the supporting surface rotation stimulation (Toes-up and Toes-down) and the horizontal perturbation stimulation (Forward and Backward). The latencies of tibialis anterior muscle and gastrocnemius muscle were recorded by surface electromyography acquisition system. The differences of the left and right limb, gender and height on the latency of postural evoked response were analyzed.
RESULTS:
(1) Under the Toes-up and Backward perturbation, the latency of tibialis anterior muscle was longer than gastrocnemius muscle; under the Toes-down and Forward perturbation, the latency of gastrocnemius muscle was longer than tibialis anterior muscle. (2) The latencies of left limb and right limb had no significant difference. (3) The latency in male was longer than that in female. (4) The latency gradually increased with the increase of height.
CONCLUSION
In the postural evoked response, different perturbations, gender and height have significant impacts on the latency of posture evoked response of lower limb muscle. However, the effect of height and gender should be not considered referring to the same individual.

Morphology and molecular identification technology were used to identify 3 original plants of Fructus Elaeagni which was commonly used in Uygur medicine. Leaves, flowers and fruits from different areas were selected randomly for morphology research. ITS2 sequence as DNA barcode was used to identify 17 samples of Fructus Elaeagni. The genetic distances were computed by kimura 2-parameter (K2P) model, and the Neighbor-Joining (NJ) and Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic trees were constructed using MEGA5.0. The results showed that Elaeagnus angustifolia, E. oxycarpa and E. angustifolia var. orientalis cannot be distinguished by morphological characteristics of leaves, flowers and fruits. The sequence length of ITS2 ranged from 220 to 223 bp, the average GC content was 61.9%. The haplotype numbers of E. angustifolia, E. oxycarpa and E. angustifolia var. orientals were 4, 3, 3, respectively. The results from the NJ tree and ML tree showed that the 3 original species of Fructus Elaeagni cannot be distinguished obviously. Therefore, 3 species maybe have the same origin, and can be used as the original plant of Uygur medicineal material Fructus Elaeagni. However, further evidence of chemical components and pharmacological effect were needed.

Chinese Journal of Hematology 2008;29(12):832-835
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the diagnostic value of bone marrow (BM) involvement detected by F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) in patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
METHODSThe study population comprised 81 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL. All patients had both (18)F-FDG PET/CT and standard BM biopsy at iliac crest. In 9 patients, additional direct BM biopsy at FDG-avid bone lesion was performed.
RESULTSAmong all 81 cases, 23 were diagnosed as BM involvement by PET/CT. Of the 23 positive cases 17 were confirmed by biopsy. However, only 11 cases were diagnosed by merely bilateral iliac crest biopsy. In patients in early stage of disease (18)F-FDG PET/CT had the same results as bilateral iliac crest biopsy.
CONCLUSION(18)F-FDG PET/CT is superior to standard BM biopsy in detecting BM involvement in newly diagnosed DLBCL patients. In patients with FDG-avid bone lesions, direct PET/CT-guided bone biopsy seems to be more accurate than standard BM biopsy.
