Objective To study how polyclonal antibodies against ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) reduce botulinum toxin-in- duced axonal sprouting and affect paralytic muscle.Design Experimental study.Participants 20 New Zealand rabbits. Methods In 10 rabbits randomly selected, left superior rectus were as control (Group 1),right superior rectus were injected with botulinum toxin A (BTXA) 2.5U (Group 3).At 14th day, bilateral superior recti were taken out under general anaesthesia. In the other 10 rabbits, left su- perior recti were injected equivalent physical saline (NS) as control (Group 2);right superior recti were injected with BTXA 2.5U,after 4 days, injected with 50?l polyclonal antibodies against CNTF at same site (Group 4).And at 14th day, bilateral superior recti were taken out for electron microscopy, dyed with acetylcholinesterase, argentums (Ag) to show nerve axonal sprout, and accounted and mea- sured with Leica microsystems.Main Outcome Measures The mean number of sprouts and the mean total length of sprouts, and the uhrastructure change of muscle by electron microscopy. Results In Group 1,the mean number of sprouts and the mean total length of sprouts were 5.75% and 10.53?m respectively;Group 2 were 6.11% and 11.16?m;Group 3 were 84.04% and 170.71?m;and Group 4 were 54.77% and 68.12?m.The differences were statistically significant (all P=0.000).Electron microscopy showed that after admin- istration BTXA alone (Group 3),muscle atrophied obviously, nerve myelin sheath increased, while the structure of nerve and muscle re- main invariable. The Group 4 showed that local myofilament disrupted and dissolved, degenerative myocytes necrotized and disintegrat- ed into fragments, which led to partial unreversible destroy. Conclusion Polyclonal anti-CNTF can reduce BTXA-induced axonal sprout- ing, lead to partial unreversible destroy of muscle, which may prolong the time of paralytic muscle resuming. It suggests that polyclonal anti-CNTF could prolong the duration of muscle paralyses induced by botulinum toxin.

AIM: To observe the clinical effect of phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation for high myopia ( axis oculi ≥ 30mm ) cataract, and to explore the causes and treatment methods of operation complications.
METHODS: Selected 64 cases ( 86 eyes ) of cataract with high myopia patients (axis oculi ≥30mm), vision correction≤ 0. 1. Phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation was used. During 1a follow-up, the improvement of visual acuity and complications were observed.
RESULTS: Postoperative best corrected visual acuity was ≥0. 4 in 35 eyes (41%), 0. 2-0. 3 in 23 eyes (27%), 0. 1-0. 15 in 25 eyes (29%), <0. 1 in 3 eyes (3%). Posterior capsular rupture, vitreous prolapsed occurred in 2 eyes ( 2%) . Through the anterior vitrectomy, intraocular lens was implanted to ciliary sulcus. Postoperative corneal edema in 6 eyes (7%), which was subsided after treatment; Posterior capsular opacity in 9 eyes (10%), visual acuity was recovered after incision of posterior capsule by YAG laser. Retinal detachment in 1 eyes (1%), which was cured after sclera buckling.
CONCLUSION: Phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation is a safe and ideal operation method for high myopia cataract, can obtain good effects, and the postoperative complications can be controlled. Because of the particularity of high myopia, operation should be gentle, technical parameters should be adjusted as appropriate, to achieve the best postoperative effects.

Objective To observe the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand(RANKL) and receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ (RANK) in bone tissue of rats with chronic fluorosis and to explore the relation between OPG/RANKL/RANK system and bone damage in chronic fluoride poisoning rat and the antagonism effects of Danlan Xianpeng capsule. Methods SD rats were randomly divided into six groups according to body weight (equal male and female in each group): fluorosis group, high dose drug group, medium dose drug group, low dose drug group, control group, borax group(positive control), 12 rats in each group. The control group drank tap water and the remaining 5 experimental groups consumed 50 mg/L fluoride water, and high, medium and low doses drug group took Danlan Xianpeng capsule at doses of 0.8,0.4,0.2 g/kg,borax group took borax at dose of 0.8 g/kg. OPG, RANKL, RANK protein in rat tibial metaphysis was detected by immunohistochemistry at the 6 month. Results Compared with the control group(173.79 ± 5.23, 174.17 ± 5.01,155.63 ± 7.11), the expressions of OPG, RANKL were increased and the expression of RANK was decreased in fluorosis group(156.83 ± 5.80, 157.74 ± 6.70, 173.92 ± 4.37), the difference was statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Compared with the fluorosis group, the expression of OPG and RANKL were decreased and the expression of RANK was increased in high-dose drug group, middle-dose drug group(169.67±5.07, 168.08 ± 5.05,162.12 ± 4.24, 170.78 ± 5.01, 168.41 ± 7.19, 166.69 ± 5.78, all P < 0.05). Compared with the borax group (167.27 ± 4.08, 167.85 ± 5.01, 166.14 ± 3.95), the expression of OPG and RANKL was increased in the low-dose drug group (163.40 ± 4.11, 159.49 ± 5.78), the expression of RANK was increased in the high-dose drug group (162.12 ± 4.24) and decreased in the low-dose drug group(171.54 ± 8.06), the difference was statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Conclusions Chronic fluoride poisoning can cause increased bone turnover and enhance the activity of osteoelastic absorption by increasing RANKL. Danlan Xianpeng capsule can affect bone remodeling through the OPG/RANKL/RANK system, and antagonises bone damage caused by fluoride.

Objective:
To understand the relationship between mental health status and vision-related quality of life( VRQL ) of students with moderate and high myopia, and to provide basis for the optimization of VRQL.
Methods:
Using convenient sampling method, the 8-18 years old students with moderate and high myopia were selected from Sichuan, Chongqing and Zhejiang. The mental health status and VRQL of students with moderate and high myopia were evaluated with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Quality of Life Scale for Ametropia. The multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for VRQL.
Results:
A total of 360 questionnaires were sent out and 354 were effectively recovered, with an effective rate of 98.33%. There were 116 ( 32.77% ) boys and 238 ( 67.23% ) girls; the median age was 16.65 years old. There were 211 ( 59.60% ) cases of moderate myopia and 143 (40.40%) cases of high myopia. There were 141 ( 39.83% ) found to be anxious and 176 ( 49.72% ) depressed. The median score of Quality of Life Scale for Ametropia was 64. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that sex ( β'= -0.179 ), diopter ( β'= 0.208 ), eyesight with glasses ( β'= -0.229 ) and anxiety ( β'= 0.439 ) were influencing factors for VRQL.
Conclusion
The mental health problems of the students with medium and high myopia are prominent; anxiety has a significant impact on the VRQL of the students.
