Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataract are the most common causes of low vision worldwide.Nowadays, there is still a controversy about whether cataract surgery should be taken in patients combined with AMD and when should the surgery be taken.The aim of this review is to assess the influence of cataract surgery on the occurrence and development of AMD, to analyze the risk factors, to explore the occasion of cataract surgery in patients with AMD, and joint with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment, also including the development and application of intraocular lens.It helps to avoid and postpone the development and progression of macular degeneration after cataract surgery and get good visual outcome.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of chloroquine on endotoxemia mice and its inhibition on the release of cytokines induced by LPS. Methods A total of 40 mice of Kunming species were randomly divided into four groups: LPS group received LPS at 10 mg/kg, chloroquine group received chloroquine at 20 mg/kg, LPS plus chloroquine group received chloroquine at 20 mg/kg first, then LPS at 10 mg/kg and control group received only 0.9%sodium chloride at 200 ?l/20 g. The mortality was observed within seven days after injection via caudal vein. ANA 1 cell lines were cultivated in vitro . After chloroquine was first added into the cells for 3 hours, the releases of TNF ? and IL 6 in the supernatants induced by different concentrations of LPS were measured. Objective To investigate the expression and diagnostic significance of CK19,CD56 and p53 protein in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and thyroid papillary hyperplasia.Methods The expressions of CK19、CD56 and p53 protein were detected in 52 cases of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and 31 of thyroid papillary hyperplasia by iImmunohistochemical methods.Results The positive rate of CK19 expression was 100 ％ (52/52) of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and 29.0 ％ (9/31) in 31 of thyroid papillary hyperplasia.There was significant difference between two groups (P ＜ 0.001).CK56 in 2 cases (3.8 ％) of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma appeared mild positive expression,and in 20 cases (66.7 ％) of thyroid papillary hyperplasia positive expression (P ＜ 0.001).The positive expression rates of p53 were 69.2 ％(36/52) in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and 6.5 ％ (2/31) in thyroid papillary hyperplasia (P ＜ 0.001).Conclusion CK19,CD56 and p53 may be important value on differential diagnosis of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma from thyroid papillary hyperplasia,and they are the indispensable markers of differential diagnosis.

A new organic-soluble co-reactant of N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(propyl)-pentanediamine (TPPD) was synthesized and co-immobilized with tris ( 2, 2’-bipyridine ) ruthenium ditetrakis ( 4-chlorophenyl ) borate ([Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2) on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for electrochemiluminescent (ECL) study. The hydrophobicity of TPPD prevented its leakage from the electrode surface, thus the long-term stability of the ECL electrode was enhanced. The TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode exhibited strong, stable and reproducible ECL signal. The ECL signal could be quenched efficiently by phenol with a quenching efficiency of 95. 4% in the presence of 0. 1 mmol/L phenol, demonstrating the potential of the modified electrode in determination of phenolic compounds. The transient-state of the electrogenerated chemiluminescence reaction was also investigated, which revealed that the TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode had a longer lifetime than conventional TPA-Ru(bpy)2+3 co-reactant system.

Objective To explore the clinical significance of the brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) in evaluating the cardiotoxicity caused by daunorubicin(DNR) through studying the changes of the plasma BNP levels in children with acute leukemia who accepted the chemotherapy with DNR.Methods Thirty-one children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL) admitted in the year of 2002-2004 underwent the chemotherapy in DVLP project.The plasma level of BNP was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and the left ventricular end diastolic diameter(LVEDD) by color Doppler respectively before and after the administration of DNR.Simultaneously,electrocardiography(ECG) and cardiac muscle enzymes(LDH1,CK-MB) were measured as routine.Results The plasma level of BNP increased from(3.97?2.41) ng/L to(18.25?7.63) ng/L(P

AIM:To investigate the differences among Lenstar 900, A-scan ultrasound and keratometer in measurement of axial length ( AL ) , anterior chamber depth ( ACD ) and corneal curvature ( K1 , K2 , Km ) , and evaluate the consistency of the instruments, with the purpose providing references for the clinical application of Lenstar 900.
METHODS: In this study we picked up 36 patients ( 50 eyes ) underwent cataract surgery, and lens nucleus hardness were under level IV. Before the operation, AL, ACD and K1 , K2 , Km were measured by Lenstar 900, A-scan ultrasound and keratometer respectively. The differences between the results were compared by the paired t-test. The correlation of the results was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis, and the consistency was measured by Bland-Ahamn method.
RESULTS: The mean AL and ACD values measured by Lenstar 900 and A-scan ultrasound had no significantly statistic differences (P>0. 05). The K1, K2, Km measured by Lenstar 900 and keratometer were not significantly statistical different (P>0. 05). The results measured by these three instruments had close linearity correlation ( r>0.9, P<0. 01). The consistency of the results was well in Bland-Ahamn analysis.
CONCLUSION:The preoperatively biometric result of Lenstar 900, A - scan ultrasound and keratometer in patients with cataract are all reliable, and they can be substituted by each other. However, Lenstar 900 can not only measure AL, ACD and corneal curvature at the same time, but also cornal thickness, lens thickness, white to white, pupil size, optical axis eccentricity, retinal thickness and so on. It has a number of advantages such as non-touching, convenient and efficient, and can be recommended to use widely.
