Background Proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR) is a tissue repair prevention and treatment of PVR in clinic.Natural delayed release microballoons are therefore becoming a hot spot for its easy manipulation, large lading dose and long acting duration. Objective This study was to evaluate the effect of 5-fluorouracil natural delayed release microballoons on the prevention of PVR.Methods The lymphocytes were collected from clean pigment rabbit to prepare the 8×107/ml cell suspension with complete culture fluid.PVR models were established in 45 healthy pigment rabbits by intravitreal injection of lymphocyte suspension. The animals were randomly divided into 3 groups and 15 rabbits for each.0.1ml normal saline,10g/L or 20g/L 5-fluorouracil natural delayed release microballoons were injected into vitreous cavity respectively.PVR was graded on Fastenberg's method under the slit lamp in 1,2,4,8 weeks. The animals were sacrificed and retinas were obtained for the histopathological and ultrastructural examination in the eighth week after administration of drug. Results The numbers of eyes with different grades of PVR were significantly different among 3 groups in 1 week,2,4,8 weeks(P<0.05).The eye numbers with PVR was significant less in 20g/L Fu group than those of 10g/L Fu group and normal saline group(P<0.05).There was statistical difference in PVR ranking among these 3 groups in 8 weeks after injection of drug(H=46.795,P<0.05).The morphology and ultrastructure of retinas under the light microscope and transmission electron microscope were near normal in all of the three groups. Conclusion Implantation of 5-fluorouracil natural delayed release microballoons into vitreous cavity is effective and safe in preventing PVR in experimental model, and the therapeutic effect of microballoons with 20g/L 5-Fu is better.

Objective To explore the apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cell(AEC)and the dynamic changes of Caspase-3 mRNA and Bax and Bcl-2 expression in premature rat with hyperoxia-induced chronic lung disease(CLD).Methods Sixty premature rats within 1 day after birth were randomly divided into 2 groups:hyperoxia group(n=30)and control group(n=30).Hyperoxia-induced premature rat CLD models were prepared, and situ nick end-labeling(TUNEL),reverse transcription polymerasechain reaction(RT-PCR)and immunohistochemical technique were used to determine apoptosis index(AI)of AEC and the expressions of Caspase-3 mRNA and Bax and Bcl-2 proteins in lung tissues at 1,3,7,14 and 21 d after birth. Results Compared with control group,in the hyperoxia group,on the third day after exposured to hyperoxia, the AI of AEC and the expressions of Caspase-3 mRNA and Bax began to increase, and the expression of Caspase-3 mRNA was kept at high level on 7-21 d.The expression of Bcl-2 began to decrease on 7 d,and significantly decreased on 7-21 d.AI of AEC was positively correlated with the expression of Caspase-3 mRNA and Bax,and negatively with the expression of Bcl-2.Conclusions Hyperoxia may induce the increased expression of Caspase-3 mRNA,which might result in the abnormal expression of Bax and Bcl-2 in lung tissues and their imbalance, which might be one of the underlying mechanisms of apoptosis of AEC in premature rats with CLD.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the therapeutic effect of Yiqi Huaju Recipe (YHR) combined with routine therapy on the blood pressure, the blood pressure variability and other cardiovascular risk factors in hypertension patients complicated with metabolic syndrome (MetS).
METHODSTotally 43 hypertension patients complicated with MetS were recruited in this study and randomly assigned to the treatment group (22 cases, treated with basic routine treatment +YHR) and the control group (21 cases, treated with basic routine treatment + placebo). The treatment course was 12 weeks. Detected were parameters such as 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist to hip ratio (WHR), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), fasting glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2 h postprandial plasma glucose (2 h PPG), fasting plasma insulin (FPI), serum lipid, etc.
RESULTSThe anthropometric parameters and plasma glucose levels (except HbAlc) were obviously lowered after treatment than before treatment in the treatment group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). Besides, better effects were obtained in the WC, WHR, 2 h PPG, FPI and HOMA-IR (P < 0.05). The average blood pressure amplitude, the blood pressure variability, and blood pressure load at any time point were more obviously improved in the two groups after treatment than before treatment (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). Besides, partial indices were better in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSYHR combined with routine therapy exhibited better effect on reducing the blood pressure amplitude, the blood pressure variability, and the blood pressure load in hypertension patients complicated with MetS. It could also effectively decrease the risk of other vascular disease.

Objective To-identify the factors associated with radiation-induced liver disease (RILD) and to describe the probability of RILD using the Lyman normal tissue complication(NTCP) model for primary liver carcinoma(PLC) treated with hypofractionated conformal therapy (CRT).Methods A total of 109 PLC patients treated with hypofractionated CRT were prospectively followed according to the Child-Pugh classification for liver cirrhosis,93 patients in class A and 16 in class B.The mean dose of radi- ation to the isocenter was (53.5?5.5) Gy,fractions of (4.8?0.5) Gy,with interfraction interval of 48 hours and irradiation 3 times per week.Maximal likelihood analysis yielded the best estimates of parameters of the Lyman NTCP model for all patients;Child-Pugh A and Child-Pugh B patients, respectively. Results Of all the patients,17 developed RILD (17/109),8 in Child-Pugh A(8/93 ) and 9 in Child-Pugh B(9/ 16).By multivariate analysis, only the Child-Pugh Grade of liver cirrhosis was the independent factor (P= 0.000) associated with the developing of RILD.The best estimates of the NTCP parameters for all 109 pa- tients were n=1.1,m=0.35 and TD_(50) (1)=38.5 Gy.The n,m,TD_(50) (1) estimated from patients with Child-Pugh A was 1.1,0.28,40.5 Gy,respectively, compared with 0.7,0.43,23 Gy respectively, for patients with Child-Pugh B.Conclusions Primary liver cancer patients who possess Child-Pugh B cirrho- sis would present a significantly greater susceptibility to RILD after hypofractionated CRT than patients with Child-Pugh A cirrhosis. The predominant risk factor for developing RILD is the severity of hepatic cirrhosis in the liver of PLC patients.

Objective To investigate a new surgical method by using pectoralis minor muscle for its partial transplantation to reconstruct the function of the opposite thumb anastomosed vessels and nerves. Methods The proposed method was evaluated by taking 20 cases of adult cadaveric thoraxes and hands, then compared with the morphology and dimension of both pectoralis minor muscle and palmer muscle to study the feasibility of the new method.Based on the observed data.We selected five suitable cases,in which the opposi- tion function was lost, and then applied the new operation on them with partial transplantation of pectoralis mi- nor muscle anastomosed vessels and nerves according to the results of anatomic study. The follow-up study was conducted to observe the functional recovery of opposition of the thumb. Results The main results can be summarized as follows.First, the anatomical position of pectoralis minor muscle was stable, and every peetoralis minor muscle was provided with self-sustaining artery, vein and nerve. The oppostition process of cadaveric hand succeeded after similar transplantation to clinic operation.Second,follow-up studies conducted 6 - 12 months after the operation showed that all five patients recovered fully. The muscle strength in all five cases re- covered to level four or higher. The shape of palm eminence was satisfactory. Conclusion The surgical method of pectoralis minor muscle transplantation for reconstructing the opposition function of the thumb was based on the clinical and anatomical application. The function of opposition of the thumb reached the satisfacto- ry requirement after the operation. So,the new surgical method can achieve better results than other existing operation methods.
