It is held by some of the researches that the "16 collaterals" is composed of the "15 collaterals" and "the major collateral of stomach". And it is included into the textbook that Xuli, the major collateral of stomach, is the pulsation point at the cardiac region. Xuli is often explained as the empty portion of the human body by many researches. Through analysis and summarization of the related theory of the major collateral of stomach, the above mentioned opinion is discussed. And the understanding on the major collateral of stomach is deepened. As a result, it is concluded that count the major collateral of stomach into the 16 collaterals together with the 15 collaterals is inadvisable. The real pulsation point at the cardiac region locates under the left breast. And the real meaning of Xuli is "extending in all directions".

2.Development and Evaluation of GS-SF for Gastric Stuffiness (Wei PI) Patients Based on Item Response Theory, Computerized Adaptive Testing, and Data Simiuation.

OBJECTIVETo develop and evaluate the short version of patient reported outcomes (PROs) questionnaire for gastric stuffiness (Wei Pi) patients with modern test theory and technologies, hoping to provide testing tools for related clinical practice and scientific researches with higher quality and less administrative and response burdens.
METHODSUsing descriptive study design, clinical data were collected with sociological questionnaire and previous developed full items version of PROs instrument for gastric stuffiness (Wei Pi) patients via field and online surveys between Sep 2011 and Mar 2012. The statistical analysis group identified the termination parameters firstly, and then selected items with discrimination, fitting residual, item information curve (IIC) , item characteristic curve (ICC), and the rank of computerized adaptive testing (CAT) select proportion, etc. After assumption evaluation of item response theory (IRT), IIC, ICC, difficulty coefficient distribution, items-response relation and thresholds, etc. were used for psychometric evaluation of instrument.
RESULTSA total of 331 patients [Ages: 31.99 +/- 10.29 yrs; Male: 186 (56.3%)] were enrolled in statistical analysis. The test termination criterion was Max SE = 0.2 or Max items number =16. After items selection, a 15-item short version of instrument, which contains symptoms facet (8 items) and impact facet (7 items) was generated. With good unidimensionality, local independence, and monotonicity, the IC and ICC in IRT analysis showed good working capability of the questionnaire. The difficulty coefficient distribution and items-response relation were also rational, as well as response thresholds.
CONCLUSIONSThe short version of PROs instrument for adult gastric stuffiness (Wei Pi) patients was successfully developed and assessed. The instrument with good methodological and reporting quality could be used in clinical and scientific evaluating their symptoms and impact.

3.Effects of LncRNA-ATB on human peritoneal mesothelial cells phenotypic transition and proliferation induced by high glucose

Objective To explore the effect of long noncoding RNA-ATB (LncRNA-ATB) on phenotypic transition and proliferation of human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMCs) induced by high glucose.Methods HPMCs used in experiment were divided into three groups:control group,mannitol group and hypertonic glucose group.HPMCs in control group received no treatment,and in hypertonic glucose group and mannitol group were treated with 50mmol/L D-glucose and isotonic mannitol for 72 hours,respectively.Real-time PCR was employed to detect the mRNA expression of LncRNA-ATB,E-cadherin,α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA),connective tissue growth factor (CTGF),Cyclin D1,cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 4 (CDK4),protein 27 (p27)and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA).Western blotting was performed to detect the proteins expression of E-cadherin,α-SMA,CTGF,Cyclin D1,CDK4,p27 and PCNA,and flow cytometry was used to test the cell cycle.Lentivirus artifice was used to up-or down-regulate the expression of LncRNA-ATB in untreated HPMCs.Real-time PCR was employed to detect the mRNA expression of E-cadherin,α-SMA and CTGF,Western blotting was performed to detect the proteins expression of E-cadherin,α-SMA and CTGF,and flow cytometry was used to test the cell cycle.Results It is revealed by Real-time PCR,Western blotting and flow cytometry that the expressions increased of LncRNA-ATB,α-SMA,CTGF,Cyclin D1,CDK4 and PCNA induced by hypertonic glucose,and decreased of E-cadherin and p27 (P<0.05).Up-regulation of LncRNA-ATB promoted HPMCs phenotypic transition and proliferation,while down-regulation alleviated HPMCs phenotypic transition and proliferation.Conclusion Hypertonic glucose may accelerate HPMCs phenotypic transition and proliferation by up-regulating the expression of LncRNA-ATB.
4.To evaluate the neutralizing abilities of anti-dengue virus antibodies with nonstructural protein 1 antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

OBJECTIVETo produce neutralizing antibodies against envelope protein domain III (EDIII) of dengue virus serotype I (DENV-1) and evaluate the nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for identification of antibody neutralizing abilities.
METHODSFive BALB/c mice and one New Zealand Rabbit were immunized with recombinant EDIII protein of DENV-1 for the production of hybridomas and hyperimmune sera. Indirect ELISA, immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and Western Blot analyses were applied to identify specificity of antibodies. Comparing to plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), the new established DENV-1 specific NS1 antigen capture ELISA was used for detecting the neutralizing abilities of these antibody.
RESULTSFour strains of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) named 1A1, 1B3, 3D3 and 9D6 and one hyperimmune serum of rabbit were obtained, all of which were approved to have neutralizing abilities to DENV-1 with the PRNT titer of 1:1024, 1:512, 1:256, 1:4096 and 1:4096. MAb 3D3 with the lowest neutralization titer in PRNT had not shown neutralizing ability to DENV-1 in NS1 antigen capture ELISA, while MAbs 1A1, 1B3 and 9D6 and the rabbit hyperimmune serum could protect the C6/36 from being infected by DENV-1 with the neutralization titer of 1:32, 1:32, 1:128 and 1:128 in this assay.
CONCLUSIONNS1 antigen capture ELISA could be used to identify antibody neutralizing abilities to DENV, it was a faster and more convenient way to screen antibodies with high neutralization titer and might also be used as one of the methods to evaluate the effects of vaccines.

5.Chest radiographic findings in children with 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus infection.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate chest radiographic findings of children with 2009 influenza (H1N1) virus infection.
METHODData of 235 patients who had microbiologically confirmed H1N1 infection and available chest radiograph obtained between May 1(st) 2009 and Jan. 31(st) 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. The final study group was divided on the basis of clinical course [group 1 mild, outpatients without hospitalization (n = 172); group 2 moderate, inpatients with brief hospitalization (n = 49); group 3 severe, ICU admission (n = 14)]. Four pediatric radiologists reviewed all the chest radiographs of lung parenchyma, airway, pleural abnormalities and also anatomic distribution of the disease.
RESULTNo significant sex or age differences were found among the study groups (P > 0.05). The mean interval between the onset of clinical symptom and the initial chest radiography was (5.91 ± 1.64) days (group 1), (3.60 ± 1.43) days (group 2) and (1.21 ± 0.41) days (group 3), respectively. The differences among the three groups were significant statistically (χ(2) = 13.368, P < 0.01). The ratio of abnormality presented at initial chest X-ray was 79.7% in group 1, 91.8% in group 2 and 100% in group 3. Radiographically, there were prominent peribronchial markings (group 1, 55.2%; group 2, 83.7%; and group 3, 78.6%), consolidation (group 1, 34.3%; group 2, 69.4%; and group 3, 100.0%), hyperinflation (group 1, 22.1%; group 2, 44.9%; and group 3, 50.0%) and ground glass opacity (group 1, 0.6%; group 2, 2.0%; and group 3, 14.3%) in the chest radiographs. The differences of presenting were statistically significant (P < 0.01). In the severe group, the lesions distributed diffusely and asymmetrically with multi-lobe involvements.
CONCLUSIONIn children with 2009 influenza A H1N1 viral infection, the interval between the onset of clinical symptom and initial chest radiography, the ratio of abnormality presented at initial chest X-ray film and the severity of chest film are parallel to their clinical situation.

6.Roles of PKCβ/P66Shc oxidative stress signal pathway in mediating hyperoxia-induced ROS production in alveolar epithelial cells.

OBJECTIVETo explore the roles of PKCβ/P66Shc oxidative stress signal pathway in mediating hyperoxia-induced reactive oxgen species (ROS) production in alveolar epithelial cells (A549) and the protective effects of PKCβ inhibitor on hyperoxia-induced injuries of alveolar epithelial cells.
METHODSA549 cells were cultured in vitro and randomly divided into three groups: control, hyperoxia and PKCβ inhibitor LY333531 treatment. The hyperoxia group was exposed to a mixture of O2 (950 mL/L) and CO2 (50 mL/L) for 10 minutes and then cultured in a closed environment. The LY333531 group was treated with PKCβ inhibitor LY333531 of 10 µmol/L for 24 hours before hyperoxia induction. Cells were collected 24 hours after culture and the levels of PKCβ, Pin1, P66Shc and P66Shc-Ser36 were detected by Western blot. The intracellular translocation of P66Shc, the production of ROS and cellular mitochondria membrane potential were measured using the confocal microscopy.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, the levels of PKCβ, Pin1, P66Shc and P-P66Shc-Ser36 in A549 cells 24 hours after culture increased significantly in the hyperoxia group. These changes in the hyperoxia group were accompanied with an increased translocation rate of P66Shc from cytoplasm into mitochondria, an increased production of mitochondrial ROS, and a reduced mitochondrial membrane potential. Compared with the hyperoxia group, the levels of Pin1, P66Shc and P66Shc-Ser36 in A549 cells, the translocation rate of P66Shc from cytoplasm into mitochondria and the production of mitochondrial ROS decreased significantly, while the mitochondrial membrane potential increased significantly in the LY333531 treatment group. However, there were significant differences in the above mentioned measurements between the LY333531 treatment and control groups.
CONCLUSIONSHyperoxia can increase the expression of PKCβ in alveolar epithelial cells and production of mitochondrial ROS and decrease mitochondrial membrane potential. PKCβ inhibitor LY333531 can partially disrupt these changes and thus alleviate the hyperoxia-induced alveolar epithelial cell injury.

7.The role of slow-release 5-fluorouracil implantation in treatment of unresectable pancreatic cancer.

OBJECTIVETo study the role of slow-release 5-fluorouracil implantation in treatment of unresectable pancreatic cancer.
METHODS85 cases of untreated patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) were randomized into two groups: Trial group: slow-release 5-fluorouracil implantation (50 patients) and control group (35 patients). Observing the objective tumor response, clinical benefit response, toxicity, complications and survival of patients of the two groups.
RESULTSIn the trial group the overall response rate (PR + NC) was 76.0%, and the clinical benefit response rate was 52.0%. No toxicity was observed. Pancreatic fistula occurred in 2 patients. The median survival time of the two groups was 9.0 months and 4.0 months, respectively. The survival rates of 6- and 12-month were 56.8% vs. 31.4% and 22.9% vs. 2.9% in the two groups, respectively (P = 0.012).
CONCLUSIONSlow-release 5-fluorouracil implantation is a simple, safe and effective method in treatment of LAPC.

8.Application of tru-cut biopsy combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy in the intraoperative pathological diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the method and value of tru-cut biopsy (TCB) combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in the pathological diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma during operation.
METHODSFrom April 2007 to October 2008, 22 cases who were suspected to suffer from pancreatic carcinoma were enrolled into this prospective study. All of them underwent a tru-cut biopsy combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy for the pathological diagnosis during operation.
RESULTSOf the 22 patients, 20 were finally diagnosed as having pancreatic carcinoma, while 2 having pancreatitis. The diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma was confirmed in 19 by tru-cut biopsy combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy, while other 3 cases were not confirmed as pancreatic carcinoma. Among those 3 cases, one was diagnosed as having pancreatic carcinoma with hepatic metastasis by liver nodular biopsy, one as suffering from autoimmune pancreatitis, and another case as having chronic pancreatitis confirmed by follow-up for 9 months without any changes after the operation. The accuracy of FNA, TCB and FNA combined with TCB in the diagnosis for suspected pancreatic cancer were 86.4%, 90.9%, and 95.5%, respectively. No pancreatic fistula and bleeding developed after operation.
CONCLUSIONTru-cut biopsy is more accurate in diagnosis for the suspected pancreatic cancer than fine needle aspiration biopsy during operation. Tru-cut biopsy combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy can improve the accuracy of diagnosis, and is a safe and effective diagnostic method.

BACKGROUNDMeningioma is one of the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system, but there are not many detailed studies on the sex, age, subtypes and locations of large series. This study was a retrospective analysis of the characteristics of meningioma cases consecutively operated on at a single institution in China from 2001 to 2010.
METHODSThis study investigated the demographic background of 7084 meningioma cases, and the subtypes and locations of the tumors. Sex and age distributions were analyzed, and the pathological subtypes were classified according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The location of the meningiomas was also categorized.
RESULTSThe female:male ratio of the 7084 cases was 2.34:1. The mean age was 51.4 years (range, 11 months-86 years). The mean age of cases of WHO grade I meningioma was significantly older than that of grade II or III meningiomas (P < 0.001, Fisher's Least Significant Digit test). There was a significantly higher female:male ratio in WHO grade I meningiomas than in grade II or grade III meningiomas (2.57, 1.03 and 0.76, respectively; P < 0.001, χ(2) test). Meningothelial (n = 2061) and fibrous meningiomas (n = 3556) were the most common subtypes, comprising 79.3% of all meningiomas. All meningioma cases were classified into 23 locations in this study, with the cerebral convexity the most common site (38.33%, n = 2722). Cases with uncommon locations such as extra-cranial and sylvian fissure meningiomas were also present in this series.
CONCLUSIONSFemale predominance was found for benign meningiomas, while malignant subtypes showed male predominance. The mean age of patients with WHO grade I meningiomas was older than that of patients with higher-grade tumors. Meningothelial and fibrous meningiomas were the most common subtypes. The cerebral convexity was the most common meningioma location.
