Spermatogenesis is a complex developmental process in which a diploid progenitor germ cell transforms into highly specialized spermatozoa. During spermatogenesis, membrane remodeling takes place, and cell membrane permeability and liquidity undergo phase-specific changes, which are all associated with the alteration of membrane lipids. Lipids are important components of the germ cell membrane, whose volume and ratio fluctuate in different phases of spermatogenesis. Abnormal lipid metabolism can cause spermatogenic dysfunction and consequently male infertility. Germ cell membrane lipids are mainly composed of cholesterol, phospholipids and glycolipids, which play critical roles in cell adhesion and signal transduction during spermatogenesis. An insight into the correlation of membrane lipids with spermatogenesis helps us to better understand the mechanisms of spermatogenesis and provide new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility.

National Journal of Andrology 2015;21(2):175-178
Sulfogalactosylglycerolipid (SGG) is the main glycolipid in male mammalian germ cells, which is selectively and highly expressed in mammalian testes and helps form the lipid bilayer of cell membrane. In the process of spermatogenesis, SGG is involved in the meiosis of spermiocytes. Either deficiency or accumulation of SGG will lead to male infertility. SGG homeostasis in the testis is the premise of normal spermatogenesis. In the process of sperm-zona binding, SGG becomes a component of lipid raft and provides a platform for signal transduction. The SGG binding protein plays a role in sperm-egg recognition and membrane fusion. SGG has a great research value and application prospect in male reproduction.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2015;35(3):333-335
Objective To evaluate the effects of hydrogen-rich saline on chronic inflammatory pain in rats. Methods Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 8-10 weeks, weighing 200-250 g,were randomly divided into 4 groups (n =8 each) using a random number table:control group (group C);complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) group;hydrogen-rich saline group (group H2);CFA + hydrogenrich saline group (CFA+H2 group).Chronic inflammatory pain was induced by injecting CFA 100 μl into the plantar surface of the left hindpaw in CFA and CFA + H2 groups. In H2 and CFA + H2 groups,0.6 mmol/L hydrogen-rich saline 5 ml/kg was injected intraperitoneally once a day for 7 consecutive days starting from 1 day after injection of CFA,while the equal volume of normal salinc was given instead of hydrogen-rich saline in C and CFA groups. The mechanical paw withdrawal threshold (MWT) and thermal paw withdrawal latency (TWL) were measured at 1 day before CFA injection and 1,3 and 7 days after CFA injection. The rats were sacrificed after the last measurement of pain threshold on day 7 after CFA injection. The left lumbar segments (L4 5) of the spinal cord were removed for determination of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression by Western blot. Results Compared with C group,no significant change was found in the MWT,TWL and expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 in H2 group, and the MWT was significantly decreased, the TWL was shortened, and the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 was up-regulated in CFA and CFA+H2 groups.Compared with CFA group, the MWT was significantly increased, the TWL was prolonged, and the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 was up-regulated in CFA+H2 group. Conclusion Hydrogen-rich saline can alleviate chronic inflammatory pain in rats, and activation of Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway in the spinal cord is involved in the mechanism.

Bulletin of The Academy of Military Medical Sciences 2010;34(1):37-39
Objective To establish a calcification mode in vitro of human vascular smooth muscle cells (HVSMCs) induced by β-GP. Methods Primary HVSMCs were obtained from human embryo by plant method and confirmed by stain with α-sm-actin antibody. The cells after 4-6 passages were divided into two groups. The control group was incubated with normal DMEM medium while the calcification group was incubated with the medium containing 10 mmol/L β-glycerophosphate for 10 days.Calcification was confirmed by alizarin red S stain and alkaline phosphatase(ALP) assays. Results The primary cells observed by S-P stain were positive and the cells after being stained were pale yellow. After being induced with β-GP, the cells of calcification group began concentric growth and formed vesicles. Alizarin red S staining showed that the reaction of calcifying nodules was red,ALP activity was higher than that of controls at various time points(4 d,6 d,8 d and 10 d,P<0.01 ).Conclusion The HVSMCs could be induced into calcification in vitro by β-GP, and this model contribates to further studies of vascular diseases.

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2007;13(2):115-119
OBJECTIVETo observe the change of nephron damaged by chemotherapy and to evaluate the effect of Baoshen Mixture (, BSM) in protecting and treating damaged nephrons.
METHODSFour hundred tumor patients with normal renal function and ready to receive chemotherapy were randomly assigned to two groups. Both groups received one cycle of chemotherapy program of 28-30 days with conventional hydratization, alkalization and chloridization. To the 200 cases in the treated group BSM was given orally thrice a day, 150 mL every time for 15 successive days and the other 200 cases in the control group were treated by chemotherapy alone. The clinical efficacy was compared after treatment, and the changed condition of damaged nephrons were monitored dynamically and compared at different time points (the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st day after chemotherapy) by measuring the micro-globulin beta(2) (beta(2)-MG), albumin (Alb) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in urine with radioimmunoassay (RIA).
RESULTS(1) The effective rates in the treated group at the 4 time points of observation were all higher than those in the control group respectively (P<0.05 or P<0.01); (2) Less occurrence of abnormal beta(2)-M, Alb and IgG levels on the 14th and 21st day in the treated group took place compared to that in the control group (P<0.01); (3) Urinary levels of beta(2)-MG, Alb and IgG reached the peak on the 7th day in both groups, and then, they came down gradually and returned to the normal level on the 21st day. However, comparison between the two groups showed that all the three parameters in the treated group on day 3, 14 and 21 were lower than the respective one at the corresponding time points in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe chemotherapy damage on nephron is regular in time, and reversible when treated suitably. TCM shows a marked effect in protecting and treating the damage on nephron caused by chemotherapy.

Chronic osteomyelitis is one of the most common disorder in clinic. In recent years due to diabetes, peripheral vascular disease and trauma induced disease increased, the prevalence rate increased. With the development of magnetic resonance imaging and CT imaging technology, it greatly improved the accuracy of clinical diagnosis of chronic osteomyclitis and ability to describe the infection characteristics, and provide a reliable basis for clinical treatment. The current research on chronic osteomyelitis mainly concentrated on the aspects of imaging applications and ways of using antibiotic optimization control inflammation, defect restoration and reconstruction of blood supply and treatment. But the best time to the antibiotic therapy and the use of program is still uncertain, for after debridement, bone grafting time and defect repair function of fast recovery still need further research.

OBJECTIVETo compare the effect of reinforcing Shen method (RSM) and activating blood method (ABM) in treating osteoarthritis (OA) at the molecular level.
METHODSThe physical and chemical characteristics of components from respective recipes of RSM and ABM, and network features of component-target interaction network were analyzed by computer simulation methods including chemical space, molecular docking, and biological network, etc.
RESULTSThe chemical components of RSM and ABM were scarcely scattered with larger overlapping. Among established networks, the distribution of network features was partially similar in RSM and ABM. The average target number correlated with each component was 1.86 in RSM and 2.11 in ABM respectively. Each average target number was respectively correlated with 4.46 compounds and 3.93 compounds, reflecting multi-component and multi-target actions.
CONCLUSIONComputer simulation could intuitively trace out similarities and differences of two different methods and their interaction with targets, which revealed that the compatibility of RSM and ABM could have broader protein targets and potential synergism at the molecular level.
