Background and purpose:It has been demonstrated that radical prostatectomy for patients with oligometastatic prostate cancer may contribute to improving local control of prostate cancer and overall survival by several retrospective studies. Perioperative complications play an important role in determining whether radical prostatectomy is appropriate for patients with oligometastatic prostate cancer. This study aimed to discuss the recurrence rate and the sever-ity of perioperative complications, and the primary curative effect of radical prostatectomy on oligometastatic prostate can-cer patients. Methods:A total number of 247 patients who received radical prostatectomy were recruited in the study from Jul. 2015 to Jan. 2016, including 25 patients with oligometastatic prostate cancer and 222 patients with localized prostate cancer. Patients with perioperative complications in both groups were graded with the Clavien-Dindo grading system. The proportion of PSA decline and the rates and severity of perioperative complications were analyzed in both groups. Results:The cases of prostate specific antigen (PSA) decline in the oligometastatic group were 21 (84.0%), lower than the localized group with 212 cases (95.5%). There were 6 cases (24.0%) with postoperative complications in the oligometastatic group, including serious complications (Ⅲ or above) 1 case (4.0%), and 49 cases (22.1%) with postoperative complications in the localized group, including serious complications (Ⅲ or above) 7 cases (3.2%). The differences between the groups reached no statistical significance (P>0.05).Conclusion:Radical prostatectomy for patients with oligometastatic prostate cancer could be safe, effective, and appropriate, the risk of perioperative complications should not be one of the limiting factors.

To investigate changes of 14-3-3beta from apoptosis induced by PrP106-126 polypeptide, HeLa cell was incubated with PrP106-126 for 4h or 8h. Nucleus changes and the expression of PARP were detected differently by Hoechst staining and Western blotting. Expressing of protein and mRNA from 14-3-3beta was determined by Western blotting and Real-time PCR. The results show that typical nucleus pyknosis and chip of apoptosis and degradation of PARP were induced by PrP106-126 peptide in HeLa cells. Degradation of 14-3-3beta appeared in apoptosis groups induced by PrP106-126 peptide. However, 14-3-3beta mRNA did not display any changes in apoptosis groups. This study indicated that degradation of antiapoptosis protein 143-3beta induced by PrP106-126 peptide may be one of pathogenesis mechanism of prion disease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of recombinal human connective tissue growth factor (rhCTGF) stimulation on epithelial-myofibroblast transdifferentiation (EMT) and collagen-synthesis in human renal tubular epithelial cell line (HK2) in vitro.
METHODSThe cultured HK2 cells were stimulated with rhCTGF of 5 ng/mL. The morphological changes were observed under an inverted microscope. The cells were collected at 0, 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hrs after rhCTGF stimulation. The expression of E-cadherin,alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA), collagen Ialpha1 (Col Ialpha1) and collagen IValpha1 (Col IValpha1) mRNAs were detected by RT-PCR.
RESULTSrhCTGF stimulation changed the HK2 cell appearance from oval to fusiformdown-regulated the E-cadherin mRNA expression and up-regulated alpha-SMA mRNA expression, but had no effects the Col Ialpha1 and Col IValpha1 mRNA expression.
CONCLUSIONSExogenous CTGF can mediate the EMT but has no collagen-synthesis effects on HK2 cells.

Objective To explore the role of regulatory T-lymphocytes(Treg) in the immune pathogenesis of suba-cute thyroiditis (SAT). Methods The proportion of Treg in CD4+T cells in peripheral blood of 46 SAT patients and15 controls was detected using flow cytometry. And the concentration of interleukin-10(IL-10), transforming growth factor-beta1(TGF-β1) and prostaglandin E2(PGE2) in serum of 46 SAT patients and 15 controls was measured with ELISA. In addition, the Forkhead box protein 3 (Foxp3) positive cells in thyroid tissue of 29 SAT patients and20 controls was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The proportion of Treg in peripheral blood of SAT pa-tients was significantly lower than that of controls (P<0.05). And the concentration of TGF-β1 in serum of SAT patients was apparently higher than that of controls(P<0.05). Additionally, the positive rate of Foxp3 in thyroid tissue of SAT patients was markedly higher than that of controls(P<0.05).Conclusions The decrease of Treg may play an important role in the immune pathogenesis of SAT.

OBJECTIVEThe Medical Outcome Study of 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) is a well-validated generic questionnaire widely used to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire (CLDQ) is a specific HRQOL assessment designed for patients with liver diseases. The aim of our study is to evaluate the HRQOL based on SF-36 and CLDQ (Chinese version) in patients with chronic hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis, especially in the status of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE).
METHODSThe SF-36 and CLDQ were answered by 160 healthy volunteers, 20 patients with chronic hepatitis B and 106 patients with cirrhosis. HRQOL scores of the groups with different liver disease severities and with or without MHE were compared. The SF-36 includes one multi-item scale that assesses eight health categories: physical functioning, role-physical, body pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, role-emotion, and mental health. CLDQ assesses 6 categories: abdominal symptoms, fatigue, systemic symptoms, activity, emotional function and worry.
RESULTSCompared with the healthy controls, patients with chronic hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis at baseline had a lower HRQOL on all scales of the SF-36 and CLDQ (P < 0.01 for all). Increased severity of liver cirrhosis (based on the Child-Pugh score but with MHE or without) was associated with a decrease in most components, both in SF-36 and in CLDQ. However, patients with Child-Pugh B and C disease had similar HRQOL scores on both the SF-36 and CLDQ (P > 0.05), except role-physical and vitality on SF-36. There was a significant difference between patients with and without MHE on the SF-36 score (P < 0.01), and no significant difference (P > 0.05) on CLDQ scores except in abdominal symptoms.
CONCLUSIONThe Chinese version of SF-36 along with CLDQ are valid and reliable methods for testing MHE in patients with liver cirrhosis.

OBJECTIVETo observe the anti-renal fibrosis effect of Paidu Baoshen Pill (PBP) on 5/6 nephrectomized rats and to explore its mechanism.
METHODSTotally 50 SD male healthy rats were randomly divided into the normal control group (n = 10), the sham-operation group (n = 10), and the nephrectomy model group (n = 30) according to the proportion of 1:1:3. Rats in the sham-operation group had their renal capsule isolated without nephrectomy. Rats in the nephrectomy model group had their kidneys 5/6 nephrectomized. Then 24 h urine was collected and 24 h urinary protein (24 h UP) detected. Serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatitine (SCr) were also tested. According to the SCr level 30 rats of the model group were further randomly divided into the model group, the PBP group, and the Niaoduqing Granule (NG) group, 10 in each group. Rats in the PBP group and the NG group were respectively administered with PBP (at the daily dose of 1.0 g/kg) and NG (at the daily dose of 3.33 g/kg) by gastrogavage (they were dissolved in distilled water). At the same time, 2 mL distilled water was administered by gastrogavage to rats in the normal control group, the sham-operation group, and the nephrectomy model group, once daily for 4 successive weeks. Mental conditions, activities, hair color, shape of stool, and the body weight were observed during administration. After 4 weeks, urine was collected to detect 24 h UP. Blood was sampled to detect SCr, BUN, transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), type III procollagen (PC III), collagen type IV (Col IV), laminin (LN), and fibronectin (FN). After rats were killed, their left remnant renal tissues were collected for pathological examinations. The protein expression quantity of TGF-β1 and FN was detected by immunohistochemical method. mRNA expression levels of TGF-β1 and FN were detected using real time fluorescent quantitative PCR.
RESULTSThere was no statistical difference in the above indices between the normal control group and the sham-operation group (P > 0.05). Compared with the sham-operation group, rats' general condition was poorer in the model group, their body weight grew slower, and 24 h UP increased; serum levels of BUN, SCr, TGF-β1, PC III, Col IV, LN, and FN increased; the residual renal pathological lesion was serious; expression levels of TGF-β1, TGF-β1, mRNA, FN, and FN mRNA increased in the renal tissue (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, rats' general condition was better, their body weight grew faster, 24 h UP reduced (P < 0.05), blood levels of BUN and SCr decreased significantly (P < 0.01), serum levels of TGF-β1, PC III, CoL IV, LN, and FN decreased (P < 0.05, P < 0.01); the residual renal pathological lesion was attenuated in the PBP group and the NG group; expression levels of TGF-β1, TGF-β1, mRNA, FN, and FN mRNA decreased (P < 0.01). Compared with the NG group, blood levels of SCr and FN, and expression levels of FN and FN mRNA decreased more in the PBP group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPBP had the effect of anti-renal fibro- sis in 5/6 nephrectomized rats. Down-regulating expression levels of TGF-β1, and FN from gene transcription and protein translation levels might be one of its mechanisms.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2022;40(5):396-400
There are many occupational risk factors in operating room work. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) , as a kind of common bone filling and repairing material, is widely used in the fixation of artificial joints, oral braces and orthopedic prosthesis. However, PMMA will release methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer when it is implanted into human tissues and polymerized to harden, which is toxic to the body. This paper analyzes harmful factors in using PMMA bone cement, and then explores corresponding occupational protection knowledge, in order to reduce the occurrence of occupational hazards related to PMMA bone cement and enhance the self-protection ability of the operation room medical staff.
