Objective To investigate the effect of Ulinstatin(UTI) on oxygenation and gastric intramucosal pH in dogs with sepsis. Methods Sepsis was induced by intravenous infusion of lipopolysaccharide of E.coli.055:B5 to dogs,and the twenty dogs were divided into control group and ulinastatin group.Ulinastatin was administered in the ulinastatin group.The oxygen delivery(DO2),oxygen consumption(VO2), oxygen extraction(O2ER), plasma lactate levels and gastric intramucosal pH(pHi) were monitored. ObjectiveTo explore the characteristics of phonological encoding of Chinese disyllabic compound words in patients with mild cognition impairment(MCI). Methods10 patients with MCI and 10 normal controls who matched with the age, gender, level of education and handedness performed homophone judgment task. In this task, a picture with a disyllabic compound name was presented, after 100 ms of the presentation there would be a Chinese character below the picture. Subjects were asked to judge whether one of the morpheme in the picture name was homophonic to the character. The reaction time and error ratio were analyzed statistically. ResultsIn the normal controls, the reaction time for the second constituents was shorter than that for the first constituents, while there were no difference between the first and second constituents reaction time in MCI patients. The error ratio of the first and second constituents showed no difference in normal controls, but MCI patients made more error rate for the first constituents. ConclusionAs the heathy elderly,the MCI patients have same pattern in phonological coding of Chinese disyllabic compound words, but much slower in activation speed, indicating the impairment of semantic memory and phonological activation in patients with MCI.

Objective Through the correlation study of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) and chronic heart failure to investigate the pathogenesis of chronic heart failure and provide a new method for chronic heart failure diagnosis.Methods One hundred and twenty-eight chronic heart failure patients (chronic heart failure group) were involved in this study.According to the level of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),they were divided into LVEF slightly lowing group (LVEF 40％-50％,50 patients),LVEF moderately lowing group (LVEF 30％-39％,35 patients),LVEF severely lowing group (LVEF ＜30％,43 patients).Fifty healthy people was as control group.The level of FGF-23,parathyroid hormone (PTH),creatinine (Cr),urea nitrogen (BUN),blood calcium,blood phosphorus,N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were detected.The patients in two groups were performed color Doppler ultrasonography.Results The level of FGF-23,blood phosphorus,PTH,left ventricular mass index (LVMI),NT-proBNP in chronic heart failure group were significantly higher than those in control group [68.44(55.85-94.73) ng/L,34.18(30.57-38.87) ng/L,(1.13 ± 0.13) mmol/L vs.(1.02± 0.12) mmol/L,(15.51 ± 3.99) ng/L vs.(9.97 ± 0.89) ng/L,(112.27 ± 52.02) g/m2 vs.(71.37 ± 12.95) g/m2,(6 265.3 ± 15 991.6) ng/L vs.(76.12 ± 51.80) ng/L](P ＜ 0.01).The level of blood calcium,glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in chronic heart failure group were significantly lower than those in control group [(2.28 ±0.16) mmol/L vs.(2.48 ±0.13) mmol/L,(78.28 ± 14.20) ml/ (min ·1.73 m2) vs.(85.03 ± 14.44)ml/ (min·1.73 m2)] (P ＜ 0.01).Spearman correlation analysis showed that FGF-23 had positive correlation with age (r =0.256,P ＜0.01),blood phosphorus (r =0.326,P ＜0.01),PTH (r =0.584,P ＜0.01),NT-proBNP (r =0.799,P ＜ 0.01),LVMI (r =0.540,P ＜ 0.01),and had negative correlation with blood calcium (r =-0.308,P ＜ 0.01),GFR(r =-0.527,P ＜ 0.01).The level of FGF-23 was increased when LVEF reduced.Conclusions It has significant correlation between the level of FGF-23 and the degree of chronic heart failure.It suggests that the level of FGF-23 can evaluate the myocardial systolic function and ventricular remodeling.

Objective To observe the curative effectiveness of kidney transplantation on uremic patients complicated with Thalassemia.Methods Forty-six cases of uremic patients complicated with Thalassemia(26 cases of alpha-thalassemia,20 cases of beta-thalassemia)subject to kidney transplan- tation were retrospectively studied as the anemia group.Incidence of delayed graft function restoration, rejection(hyperacute rejection,accelerated rejection and acute rejection)and anemia correction were observed.Time needed for renal function restoration was recorded and creatinine value(Cr)was mea- sured in those patients whose kidney function restored after kidney transplantation.Control group in- cluded 131 cases of kidney transplantation performed concurrently that accompanied with different con- tent of anemia other than thalassemia.Results Incidence of DGF was 26.1% and 23.7% in thalasse- mia group and control group,respectively.Six months after transplantation,39 cases in thalassemia group and 109 cases in control group with follow-up were host and kidney alive.In 6 months,rejection ratio was 30.8% in thalassemia group and 32.1% in control group respectively.Cr value was(121?20)?mol/L and(128?33)?mol/L in thalassemia group and control group,respectively.Ratio of anemia correction in thalassmia and control groups was 79.5% and 76.1%,respectively.No indexes above were found to be statically significantly different between these two groups.Conclusion Uremic patients complicated with thalassemia is suitable for kidney transplantation,with clinical effectiveness similar to those without thalassemia.

Tangcao pill is commonly applied in adjuvant and even alternative therapy for patients with AIDS. However, the herb contains complex ingredients, but with unknown effect against anti-HIV drug and unknown function. Because CYP450 emzyme is the main metabolic enzymes of the drug, it is of important significance to study the regulation of CYP450 enzymes before and after the combined administration of Tangcao pill and EFV. Proteomics, due to its high throughout and high sensitivity, has been widely applied in CYP450 enzyme study. In this paper, liver microsomes were separated through differential centrifugation. Their proteins were separated through SDS-PAGE. The three protein bands that CYP450 enzymes were located were cut and identified by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Totally 16 CYP450 isoenzymes were identified. Furthermore, in order to make a quantitative analysis on the effect of tang herb on CYP450 emzyme, the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) technology based on MS was adopted. The CYP2C11 was selected based on the results of the mass spectrum identification of proteins. The characteristic polypeptides were obtained through searching Expasy blast database. The m/z of the fragment ions was less than 800. In the paper, the m/z of ion pairs of CYP2C11 were 711.5/232.1, 711.5/319.2, 711.5/466.2 and 711.5/595.3, and the m/z of ESAT-6 (internal standard, IS) were 735.5/215.3, 735.5/389.3, 735.5/460.3 and 735.5/524.3. The relative peak (analyte/IS) area was adopted for the relative quantitative analysis. Compared with the EFV single administration group, the EFV and Tangcao pill combined administration group showed a 1.6-fold increase in CYP2C11. The results of the paper indicated that Tangcao pill may affect drug metabolism by regulating metabolic enzymes such as CYP2C11, but the specific mechanism still unknown.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of 308-nm excimer light in the treatment of stable vitiligo. Methods Thirty patients with stable vitiligo were enrolled in this clinical trial. All the subjects received the treatment with 308-nm excimer light on a twice-weekly schedule for 3 months. Results The repigmentation rate was 95.0%, 75.0% and 66.7% for lesions in the face and neck, trunk and limbs, with the treatment sessions averaging 10.22 ± 1.60, 19.10 ± 2.38, 37.74 ± 3.06, respectively, and accumulative irradiation dose averaging 7.50 ± 3.45, 10.60 ± 1.01, 18.56 ± 3.05 J/cm2 respectively. Significant differences were observed in the repigmentation rate and treatment sessions between the lesions in the face and neck, trunk and limbs (all P ＜ 0.05). No severe side effects were seen during the treatment. Conclusion 308-nm excimer light is effective and safe for the treatment of vitiligo.

To investigate the biological role of snake venom cystatin(sv-cystatin) in tumor progression, the cDNA of sv-cystatin amplified by PCR from pUC18-cystatin plasmid was cloned into methanol-inducible expression vector pPICZ?A. The linearized recombinant plasmid pPICZ?A-cystatin was transfered into Pichia pastoris, strain GS115 by electrophoration. Transfermants with phenotype Mut+ selected were identified by PCR analysis and induced in 1.0% methanol. The reombinant sv-cystatin protein was examined by SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis. The molecular mass of expression product was about 14 kDa and approximately 16 mg/L of recombinant sv-cystatin was produced from one of GS115-cystatin transformants. OBJECTIVETo determine the equilibrium solubility of pulchinenosiden D in different solvents and its n-octanol/water partition coefficients.

METHODCombining shaking flask method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to detect the n-octanol/water partition coefficients of pulchinenosiden D, the equilibrium solubility of pulchinenosiden D in six organic solvents and different pH buffer solution were determined by HPLC analysis.

RESULTn-Octanol/water partition coefficients of pulchinenosiden D in different pH were greater than zero, the equilibrium solubility of pulchinenosiden D was increased with increase the pH of the buffer solution. The maximum equilibrium solubility of pulchinenosiden D was 255.89 g x L(-1) in methanol, and minimum equilibrium solubility of pulchinenosiden D was 0.20 g x L(-1) in acetonitrile.

CONCLUSIONUnder gastrointestinal physiological conditions, pulchinenosiden D exists in molecular state and it has good absorption but poor water-solubility, so increasing the dissolution rate of pulchinenosiden D may enhance its bioavailability.

OBJECTIVETo study the combination of Mandibular distraction and orthognathic techniques for the reconstruction of adult hemifacial microsomia.

METHODSThe three-dimensional CT reconstruction data was used with Mimics for preoperation design. The osteotomy location, distraction vector, distraction distance were decided before operation with a surgical guider. At the first stage, internal distractor was implanted after ostetomy through an extra-oral approach. The distraction begun 5-7 days after operation with a frequency of 1 mm/day. After distraction, the distractor was maintained for 3-6 months. At the second stage, the distractor was removed. Le Fort I osteotomy was performed in order to correct the cross-bite and improve the facial contour. Usually, bone graft was inserted into the gap after Le Fort I osteotomy. The genioplasty was also performed if necessary.

RESULTS9 cases of adult hemifacial microsomia with severe mandibular deviation were treated. The facial asymmetry were improved greatly. 1 patient suffered an wound infection in the maxillary region after Le Fort I osteotomy and healed uneventfully with wound irrigation.

CONCLUSIONSMandibular distraction combined with orthognathic surgery is an effective procedure for adult hemifacial microsomia with complicated mandibular hypoplasia.

Laboratory animals and animal experiments are foundations and important support conditions for life sciences, especially for medical research. The animal experiments have drawn extensive attention from the society because of the ethical issue. This paper takes Wenzhou Medical University as an example to give a brief introduction to the ethical review about laboratory animals in the university so as to further draw attention and concerns from the public about the ethical issue of laboratory animals. We successively introduce its scientific projects, nurturing environment and ethical review of laboratory animals.
