2.Beneficial cardiovascular effects of statins
Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2003;0(11):-
Pleiotropic effects of a drug are actions other than that for which the agents were developed. These effects may be desired or undesired, and may be unrelated to their primary mechanism.Statins were designed as a drug for reducing cholesterol, but now pleiotropic effect are found including improvement of endothelial dysfunction, inhancement of eNOS bioavailability antioxide effect, antiinflammatory properties and reduction of hypertension.Understanding those effects is important for treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

International Eye Science 2016;16(8):1590-1592
Abstract?AIM: To comparatively analyze the efficacy and clinical value of cutting frontal muscular slap or not during frontalis aponeurosis flap suspension in treating congenital severe ptosis.?METHODS: Clinical data of 44 children ( 54 eyes ) with congenital severe ptosis treated in our hospital from May 2013 to October 2015 was retrospectively analyzed. Children included were divided into two groups according to the different ways of operation, observation group ( cutting frontal muscular slap ) and control group ( without cutting frontal muscular slap ) , 22 cases ( 27 eyes ) in each group. The general information, postoperative follow-up, eyelid closure and complication occurrence in two groups were compared.?RESULTS: The general information of the two groups had no statistical difference (P>0.05).After 1, 6mo, the cosmetic correction rate, the rate of overcorrection, and the rate of under correction in two groups had no statistical difference (P>0.05), but the activity of upper eyelid in observation group was bigger than that in control group (P<0.05).After 1, 6mo, the incomplete closure in two groups had no statistical difference ( P>0.05 ) , but eyelid fissure height in natural closed eyelids in control group was higher than that in observe group ( P<0.05 ).After 1mo, 2 eyes in control group were with abnormal feelings in frontal part, and 3 eyes in observation group. After 6mo, 2 eyes in control group were with abnormal feelings in frontal part, and 3 eyes in observation group. There were no complications such as exposure keratitis, eyelid margin deformity, infection, hematoma, and diplopia in two groups.?CONCLUSION: The total therapeutic effects of two different surgery procedures in treating severe congenital ptosis are quite similar. The surgery with cutting frontal muscular slap could improve the activity of upper eyelid and postoperative eyelid closure.
4.Ego State Analysis in Stroke Rehabilitation
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2014;(2):184-187
Because the rehabilitation process is too long and its effect is non-significant, stroke patients are prone to showing over-reliance on their families, being unconfident in their abilities, and they usually miscommunicate with medical staff, in fact, the reason why they have these problems is that they didn't manifest appropriate ego states, so they couldn't communicate with families and medical staff healthily, which is extremely unfavorable for stroke rehabilitation. So-called ego state is individual mentality and corresponding behavior patterns. This paper used ego state concept in transactional analysis theory to describe the change of stroke patients' ego states, and analyze the communication patterns among patients, medical staffs and families, in order to assist patients to be aware of their own ego states, and present them properly, develop healthy communication, and promote the rehabilitation of the disease in the end.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 1986;0(01):-
Objective To analyze the clinical features of organic damages in Kawasaki disease(KD),and to improve the diagnosis and treatment level. Methods Two hundred and two cases with KD admitted in Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Institute of Pediatrics from Jan.2000 to Oct.2007 were reviewed, and their blood routine, urine, stool routine, liver function, kidney function, chest X-ray,and so on,were investigated. The incidence of organic damages in KD was evaluated. Results Among the 202 KD children,137 were male and 65 were female, the male-female ratio was 2.11.0.Most of them were infants, and 71.3% of them were younger than 3 years old.The damages of hematological system were detected in 78/202 cases(38.6%),respiratory system 76/202 cases(37.6%),cardiovascalar system 68/202 cases(33.7%),urinary system 52/202 cases(25.6%),digestive system 23/202 cases(11.4%),and central nervous system 3/202 cases(1.5%).On the other hand,3 cases complicated with septemia,1 case with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and 1 case with Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Conclusions The data indicate that the incidence of hematological system involvement in the sick-children with KD were highest, with more than 2 organs involved simaltaneously. Many organic damages were involved in KD and diverse clinical manifestation could be found.Physicians should understand not only the typical features but also the rare symptoms and organic damage so as to prevent misdiagnosis and improper treatment.J Appl Clin Pediatr,2009,24(1):31-32

8.Research Progress in Cofactor Engineering of Xylose Metabolism in Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

China Biotechnology 2006;0(02):-
Cofactor engineering, a vital part of metabolism engineering, changes the redox cofactor regeneration approach. Its main goal is to rebuild the components of metabolic products. The bioconversion of xylose for the production of ethanol is being studied intensively because ethanol is an alternative energy source and a potential liquid fuel. Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been traditionally used in producing ethanol from fermentable sugars but it cannot utilize xylose, only its isomer xylulose. Introduction of the xylose fermentation pathway from Pichia stipitis into S. cerevisiae enables xylose utilization in recombinant S. cerevisiae, but the ethanol yields of xylose fermentation with recombinant S. cerevisiae has been low and large amounts of the byproduct xylitol are produced. The major reason is that the catabolism of xylose with the fungal pathway leads an imbalance of redox cofactor. The process of the catabolism of xylose requires NADPH and NAD~+, both of which have to be regenerated in separated processes. More and more attention has therefore focused on the redox cofactor balance in S. cerevisia. The research progress of cofactor engineering to solve the imbalance of redox cofactor in xylose metabolism recombinant S. cerevisiae was introduced. This included expression of transhydrogenase, increasing the utilization of NADPH, and achieving the anaerobic reoxidation of NADH. Reversing the cofactor specificity of enzymes is another effective way.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(03):-
Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of propofol on the platelet function. Methods Thirty ASA Ⅰ-Ⅱ patients undergoing elective minor surgery were allocated into two groups: propofol group (n=20) and control group (n=10). The mean age of the patients was (37?8)yr. Patients who had blood disease or had been exposed to any medication with known platelet effects were excluded. The patients were premedicated with phenobarbital sodium 2mg?kg -1 and atropine 0.01 mg?kg -1. In propofol group anesthesia was induced with propofol 2 mg?kg -1, fentanyl 4?g?kg -1 and vecuronium 0.1 mg?kg -1 and maintained with 0.8%-1.2% isoflurane inhalation supplemented with fentanyl and vecuronium. The duration of operation averaged (85?15)min. Blood samples were taken from peripheral vein before induction of anesthesia, 5 and 30 min after induction and 1h after termination of propofol infusion for the assessment of CD62P,CD63 and CD41/CD61 on the platelet membrane surface by flow cytometry. Platelet count, bleeding time and ACT were also determined at the same time. Results Following the administration of propofol the expressions of CD62P and CD63 on the platelet membrane surface were significantly decreased, whereas the expression of CD41/CD61, platelet count, bleeding time and ACT did not change significantly. Conclusions Propofol inhibits the expression of platelet membrane glycoproteins CD62P and CD63 and may contribute to the impairment of platelet function.
