Nuclide renal dynamic imaging was performed on 88 (110 times) transplanted kidney. Two kinds of renal scintigraphic characteristics were identified in recipients with supravesical obstruction of the graft. First, the regular type was characterized by radioactivity defect area in kidney parenchyma during early uptake period followed by ureteropelvic retention. Second, the tubular type was typified by cortical retention and attenuation in collecting system during the whole test period with a special sign of “hollow kidney”. Non-obstructive dilated calyces showed similar signs as the regular type. Acute rejection reaction and tubule necrosis demonstrated obstructive time-activity curves. However, the radioactivity retention appeared in cortex. It was suggested that dilated calyces and obstructive renogram might not be reliable evidence for upper urinary tract obstruction. The signs of radioactivity attenuation in kidney parenchyma during early uptake period followed by ureteropelvic retention may be more valuable for the evaluation. As for tubular obstruction, specified “hollow kidney” was the characteristic sign which is helpful for the diagnosis.

Objective To develop a multiple PCR-based reverse line blot hydrization assay (mPCR-RLB)to simutaneously detect several STD pathogens:Neisserria gonorrhoeae,Chlamydia trachomatis,Ureaplasma urealyticum,U.parvum,Mycoplasma genitalium,M,hominis and Trichomonas vaginalis. Methods Seven pairs of biotin-labelled primer were designed and synthesized to target the 16S rRNA-23S rRNA intergenic spacer regions of Neisserria gonorrhoeae,Chlamydia trachomatis,Mycoplasma, and repetitive DNA sequence of Trichomonas to identify and subtype thesc pathogens.DNA was extracted from the referrence strains of seven pathogens and used as templates.mPCR was performed to simutaneously amplify the target regions of these pathogens. Then, the biotin-labelled amplicons were hybridized with membrane-bound specific oligonucleotide probes followed by the detection of bound amplicons with chemiluminescence assay.Serially diluted plasmids containing the target genes of pathogens were amplified with this method to detect its sensitivity.Two-hundred and eleven specimens, including 104 male urethral swabs and 107 female cervical swabs, were collected from the STD clinic of Wuhan First Hospital;mPCR-RLB and single-primer PCR were performed. For specimens with inconsistent results, nested PCR was performed to confirm the results. Results The assay sensitively and specifically identified referrence strains of the tested pathogens. The detection limit of mPCR-RLB was 100 copies for all the pathogens.Of the 211 clinical specimens,2.8%(6/21)were negative for single-primer PCR,but positive for mPCR-RLB,and nested-PCR results were consistent with those of mPCR-RLB.Conclusion mPCR-RLB is a sensitive, specific and rapid method for the detection of STD pathogens from clinical specimens.

Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacies of fire-needle acupuncture and Halometasone cream in treating sub-acute and chronic eczema. Method Totally 114 patients were divided into a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group was intervened by using fire-needle acupuncture, and the control group was by Halometasone cream. Itchy score and Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) were used for comparison before and after intervention. Result There were significant differences in comparing the markedly-effective rate and total effective rate between the fire-needle acupuncture group and the Halometasone control group according to the itchy score (P<0.01). There were no significant differences in comparing the markedly-effective rate and total effective rate between the two groups according to EASI (P>0.05). Conclusion Fire-needle acupuncture is superior to Halometasone cream for acute and chronic eczema in relieving itch, action time and effect-sustaining duration.

To study the usefulness of JPEG2000 compression for nuclear medicine (NM) image, normal and abnormal static images were compressed using a JPEG2000 plug-in. For lossless algorithm, the compressing ratio (CR) was calculated. For lossy algorithm, images were visually analyzed by NM physicians and ROC curves were generated. The area under ROC curve (AUC) was used as the index of image diagnostic quality. Paired sample t tests were performed to compare the AUCs. It was found that the lossless CR was (1.34+/-0.05) : 1. For lossy algorithm, the AUC decreased with the increase of CR. Comparison between the original and the compressed images revealed no significant difference for 10:1 CR but significant difference for bigger CRs. It was concluded that lossless compression has little usefulness for NM image because of very low CR. While lossy compression isused, the diagnostic quality of static NM images is preserved at CRs 50 : 1,40 : 1, 30 : 1,20 : 1 up to 10 : 1. For other types of NM image, CR should be increased or decreased according to their characteristics, especially the level of intrinsic statistical noise of NM image.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2007;24(5):1027-1044
To objectively and quantitatively study the effect of JPEG2000 lossy compression of nuclear medicine image, line source images of various noise levels, actual quadrant-bar phantom images and simulated quadrant-bar phantom images of various noise levels were compressed using a JPEG2000 plug-in at 10 : 1 to 50 : 1 with a 10 : 1 step. Modulation transfer function (MTF), full width at half-maximum (FWHM) and the peak to total count ratio (PTCR) of line spread function of the simulated line source images were analyzed quantitatively. Image quality of the quadrant-bar phantom images was visually evaluated according to quality control procedures and the result was used to verify the quantitative analysis. It was observed that PTCR decreased as compression ratio increased and the higher the noise level, the faster PTCR decreased, which was in accordance with the increase of the width of the smallest bars that can be visually resolved in the actual quadrant-bar phantom images and simulated quadrant-bar phantom images. On the other hand, no significant change of MTF and FWHM was observed as compression ratio increased. It was concluded that PTCR may serve as an objectively quantitative metrics of image quality assessment.
