Eight rabbits were used in this study.The position of the phrenic nucleus in thespinal cord,the morphology of the phrenic motoneurones and position of the cellbodies of the sensory neurons of the phrenic nerve were determined by using themethod of HRP labelling through the centralcutting end of the left phrenic nerve atthe root of the neck.The results were as follows:1.The phrenic nucleus in the rabbit was located in C_3,C_4,and C_5 segments.Itis a longitudinal cell column lying between the ventromedial and the ventrolateralcolumns of the ventral horn of the spinal cord.2.Phrenic motoneurones differed in shape and size.Most of the cell bodies ofthe rabbit's phrenic motoneurones were round or oval in shape,ranging from 5 to45 ?m(mean 25 ?m)in diameter.3.The rabbit phrenic nerve arises from the ventral rami of the 3 rd,4 th and5 th cervical nerves,and the nucleus of this nerve does not extend beyond the 3 rd-5 th segments——the location of the nucleus corresponds with the segmental rootsfrom which the phrenic nerve arises.4.The cell bodies of the sensory neurones of the rabbit's phrenic nerve werelocated in the dorsal root ganglia of the third and fourth cervical nerves.Besides,50 rabbits were dissected,and the origin of their phrenic nerves werestudied.

Sixty-eight patients with pneumoconiosis combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease underwent large volume lavage in one lung under double cavity tracheal intubation and intravenousinhalant anesthesia. The vital signs of patients were recorded before, 10, 30min after and at the end of lavage. Results showed that the vital signs were stable during the lavage; and after the lavage all patients had relief significantly from the symptoms of dyspnea, polypnea and cough. Our results indicate that general anesthesia with bilateral lung ventilation are a safe and effective method in large volume whole lung lavage for treatment of pneumoconiosis patients combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The trigemino-cerebellar projections of rats were studied by introducing HRP microelectrophoretically into various areas of the cerebellar cortex. The results indicate that the following parts of the cerebellum receive bilateral (mostly ipsilateral) trigeminal projections, namely, the simple lobule, the crusa Ⅰ and Ⅱ, the paramedian lobuIe, the dorsal paraflocculus, the lateral part of the lobule Ⅷ and the vermal cortex of the lobules Ⅵ～Ⅸ.Fibers from the interpolar subnucleus and the principal sensory nucleus of the trigeminal nerve project to all of the above mentioned areas.The caudal subnucleus projects to the crus Ⅰ, the paramedian lobule, the dorsal paraflocculus, the lateral part of the lobule Ⅷ and the vermal cortex of the lobules Ⅵ～Ⅸ.The oral subnucleus gives its projections to the crus Ⅱ, the paramedian lobule, the lateral part of the lobule Ⅷ and the vermal cortex of the lobules Ⅶ～Ⅸ.The mesencephalic nucleus of the trigeminal nerve sends fibers to the crura Ⅰ and Ⅱ, the paramedian lobule, the lateral part of the lobule Ⅷ and the vermal cortex of lobules Ⅶ～Ⅸ.A few labeled neurons were found in the motor nucleus of the trigeminal nerve; while in the region ventro-lateral to the motor nucleus, in the root of the trigeminal nerve and in areas adjacent to it large amount of labeled cells were seen in all the cases studied.Unexpectedly, several labeled neurons were seen in a semilunar ganglion of the trigeminal nerve.

Objective To explore the risk factors of severe pneumonia caused by multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia,and antimicrobial drug resistance among these isolates.It may help to prevent and control the disease and promote to rational use of antibiotics.Methods We conducted the case-control study in our PICU.It included 89 patients with severe pneumonia caused by multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia as case group and 68 patients with severe pneumonia caused by Klebsiella pneumonia as control group during the same period.To compare the two groups on irrationality use of antibiotics (especial for third generation cephalosporin),length of stay,tracheal cannula,time of mechanical ventilation and underlying conditions (malnutrition,congenital heart disease,heredity and metabolic disease).Antimicrobial susceptibilities among 89 multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia isolates were analyzed.Results There were 63 cases (70.79％) for irrationality use antibiotics in case group,while there were 27 cases (39.70％) in control group (P ＜ 0.01).The cases for length of stay over 7 days in case group (48 cases,53.93％) were more than those cases with the same situation in control group (12 cases,17.65 ％) (P ＜ 0.01).Thirty-eight cases (42.69 ％) needed mechanical ventilation therapy in case group,while 16 cases (23.53％) needed mechanical ventilation therapy in control group (P ＜ 0.01).The cases for duration of mechanical ventilation over 5 days in case group (18 cases,20.22％) were more than those cases in control group (5 cases,7.35％) (P ＜0.05).The cases with underlying disease in case group (13 cases,14.61％) were more than those cases in control group (2 cases,2.94％) (P ＜ 0.05).Multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia isolates demonstrated that high-level resistance for penicillins,cephalosporins,aminoglycosides and quinolones,but still susceptible to carbapenems.Conclusion Several risk factors are associated with severe pneumonia caused by multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia,including irrational use of antibiotics (especial for third generation cephalosporin),long term of length of stay,endotracheal intubation,long term of mechanical ventilation,and having underlying disease (malnutrition,congenital heart disease,heredity and metabolic disease).Multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia isolates demonstrated that high-level resistance for penicillins,cephalosporins,aminoglycosides and quinolones,but still susceptible to Carbapenems.Carbapenems should be used as first-line drugs for severe pneumonia caused by multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumonia.

Objective To explore the relationship between extraintestinal rotavirus infections and serum MBP levels. Methods Serum MBP levels were measured by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) in children including extraintestinal rotavirus infections (n = 76) and common rotavirus enteritis ( n = 63 ) during the acute and convalescence phases. A group of healthy children ( n =50) were recruited as control. Results MBP levels were significantly lower in patients with extraintestinal rotavirus infections( 176.35 ± 113.12 ) μg/L in acute phases than those in patients with common rotavirus enteritis (392. 27 ± 128.96) μg/L and healthy control group(676. 25 ± 248. 63) μg/L, and the difference was significant (P ＜0. 001 ). The serum MBP levels in convalescence phases in the group of extraintestinal rotavirus infections( 358.63 ± 106. 54 ) μg/L was lower than those in the group of common rotavirus enteritis (558. 49 ± 173. 24 ) μg/L and the healthy controls, and their difference was significant ( P ＜ 0. 001 ). The MBP levels in the acute phases among pneumonia group, hepatic lesion group, cardiac damage group and central nervous system damage group caused by rotavirus infection were ( 198.24 ± 126.47) μg/L, ( 169.34 ±124. 38) μg/L,( 184. 62 ± 123.64) μg/L, ( 180. 74 ± 126. 86) μg/L, respectively. The difference among those groups was not significant ( P ＞ 0. 05 ). Conclusion Patients with extraintestinal rotavirus infections showed significantly lower MBP levels during acute and convalescence phases than patients with common rotavirus enteritis. But MBP levels showed no significant differences among those groups of patients with different extraintestinal organ damage caused by rotavirus infection. Lower MBP levels may be associated with the increased susceptibility to extraintestinal rotavirus infections.

Objective Ketogenic diet (KD) is one of the most important treatments of intractable childhood epilepsy.Its antiepileptic mechanism has been confirmed.With its wide application and dietary requirements,more selectable types have emerged.During the diet treatment,the combined use of antiepileptic drugs and vagus nerve stimulation,dietary adjustment and reduction of adverse reactions have gained certain clinical experience.In addition,the economic burden and quality of life for the treatment of ketogenic diet still need to be considered.Therefore,this article reviews the recent literature about ketogenic diet in the treatment of intractable childhood epilepsy and summarizes its clinical progress.

Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacies of fire-needle acupuncture and Halometasone cream in treating sub-acute and chronic eczema. Method Totally 114 patients were divided into a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group was intervened by using fire-needle acupuncture, and the control group was by Halometasone cream. Itchy score and Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) were used for comparison before and after intervention. Result There were significant differences in comparing the markedly-effective rate and total effective rate between the fire-needle acupuncture group and the Halometasone control group according to the itchy score (P＜0.01). There were no significant differences in comparing the markedly-effective rate and total effective rate between the two groups according to EASI (P>0.05). Conclusion Fire-needle acupuncture is superior to Halometasone cream for acute and chronic eczema in relieving itch, action time and effect-sustaining duration.

Objective To explore the composition principles of prescriptions for simple obesity based on the analysis of medical literature issued in recently 30 years about Chinese medicine for simple obesity. Methods We collected literature of Chinese medicine in treating simple obesity from VIP, CNKI, Wanfang, CBM and CMCC/CMCI databases, and screened out the formulas for simple obesity to establish a formula database. And then the medication rules were figured out with the Traditional Chinese medicine Inheritance Support System version 2.5 (TCMISS 2.5) software. Results A total of 57 formulas were screened out. And the top 10 herbs with highest occurrence frequency in the prescriptions were Poria, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Rhizoma Alismatis, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Fructus Crataegi, Radix Astragali, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Folium Nelumbinis, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and Semen Cassiae. After data mining, we got 13 high-frequency herb-pair combinations and 31 core combinations, and 8 new prescriptions were extracted. Conclusion The research has achieved the quantitative description of the relationship between the Chinese medicines, the extraction of the core combinations and the discovery of new Chinese medicine prescriptions for simple obesity. The results will provide references for the development of new Chinese medicines for the treatment of simple obesity .

Objective To observe the Oncomelania hupensis snail control effects of molluscicides with different formula?tions in the ditch with unstable water level in field of marshland and lake areas,so as to provide the evidence for formulating the prevention strategies. Methods A drainage channel with O. hupensis snails in Jiangling County,Jingzhou City were selected as the study field,then it was divided into 6 segments,except 1 segment was treated as the blank control group for observing the natural mortality rate of the snails,the other 5 segments were treated as observation groups,where 4% niclosamide ethanol?amine salt powder,5%niclosamide ethanolamine salt granule,25%suspension concentrate of niclosamide ethanolamine salt, 26% suspension concentrate of metaldehyde and niclosamide ethanolamine salt,50% niclosamide ethanolamine salt wettable powder were applied respectively. Before and after the mollusciciding,the snail surveys were carried out through the systematic sampling method,and the short?and long?term effects of snail control were observed,and the mortality rates of the snails on the slope above the water level and those below the water level were compared. Results When 7 d and 15 d after mullusciciding, the mortality rates of snails on the slope above the water level in each observation group were 79.52%-97.87% and 90.43%-96.30%,respectively,when compared with those before mollusciciding,all the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.01). When 7 d after mullusciciding,the mortality rates of snails below the water level in each observation group were 17.11%-50.00%,which were all lower than those of the snails on the slope above the water level in the corresponding groups(all P<0.05);when 15 d after mullusciciding,the rates were 9.43%-95.24%,and those in 25%suspension concentrate of niclosamide ethanolamine salt,26%suspension concentrate of metaldehyde and niclosamide ethanolamine salt,50%niclosamide ethanol?amine salt wettable powder groups were all lower than those of the snails on the slope above the water level in the corresponding groups(all P<0.01). Compared with the densities of living snails before mollusciciding,those 6 months after mollusciciding in each observation group decreased by 70.21%-78.98%. Conclusions The molluscicides in the formulation of powders and granule are suitable for both the snail environment with or without water,while those in the formulation of suspension agents and wettable powders are suitable only for environments with water.

Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) are expressed in postmitotic neuronal cells of adult mammalian brain and are involved in the regulation of various cellular activities, including inducible gene expression. Recent data from this laboratory show that selective stimulation of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) activates a major subclass of MAPKs, extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase ( ERK), in striatal neurons. The activation of ERK was mediated partially through the mGluR5-associated signaling pathway, i. e., inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3 )-mediated Ca2+ release. More importantly, the member of Homer family, Homer1b/c, forms a central signaling pathway linking mGluR5 to ERK in a Ca2+ -independent manner. In addition, a major serine/threonine phosphatase, protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), is also involved in the mGluR5 regulation of ERK phosphorylation. As an information superhighway between the surface membrane and the nucleus, ERK when co-activated by both IP3/Ca2+- and Homer1 b/c-dependent pathways showed the ability to phosphorylate two transcription factors, Elk-1 and cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB),and thereby facilitated c-Fos expression. Together, available data obtained from this laboratory and others indicate that mGluR5 possesses the ability to activate the ERK pathway in striatal neurons. A sophisticated signaling apparatus involving coordinated interactions between protein kinases and protein phosphatases mediates the mGluR5-ERK coupling imperative for the transcriptional regulation.
