Aim To investigate the anti-apoptotic effect of NGF on H9 c2 cardiac myocytes in a hypoxia / reox-ygenation injury model and its mechanism. Methods The H9 c2 cardiac myocytes were randomly divided into five groups:control group ( C group) , hypoxia/reoxy-genation group ( H/R group) , NGF group ( N group) , NGF+LY294002 group ( N+L group) and LY294002 group( L group) . Each group received the correspond-ing treatment. Cell survival rate was tested by cell counter kit-8 methods. Apoptotic rate was evaluated by propidium iodide ( PI ) staining and flow cytometry (FCM). The levels of Caspase-12, p-Akt/Akt were e-valuated by Western blot. Results The NGF group could significantly protect the H9 c2 cardiac myocytes under the hypoxia / reoxygenation injury with increased cell survival rate. It also decreased the apoptotic per-centage, upregulated the level of p-Akt/Akt and inhib-ited the expression of Caspase-12 . As the specific in-hibitor of PI3k receptor, LY294002 decreased the level of p-Akt. Conclusion NGF has the effect of anti-ap-optosis on H9 c2 cardiac myocytes exposed to hypoxia /reoxygenation injury via PI3k-Akt signal pathway.

Objective To study the clinical, histopathological, immunohistochemical features and the diagnosis and treatment of paraganglioma of urinary bladder. Methods Two cases of paraganglioma of urinary bladder were treated. The first case was a male with painless haematuria. The abdominal ultrasonography and CT scan showed a 2.5 cm× 2.0 cm mass in the right anterior wall of the bladder, and urine vanillylmandelic acid elevated to 17. 9- 31. 3 μmol/24 h (normal range 10- 35 μmol/24 h). The second case was a female who presented with 8 years history of headache and palpitation after voiding. Abdominal ultrasonography and CT scan showed a 2. 6 cm× 1.5 cm mass in the left wall of the bladder, and her urine vanillylmandelic acid was 35.3-43.3 μmol/24 h. Results One patient underwent transurethral resection (TURBT) and the other underwent partial cystectomy. The two cases were diagnosed as bladder paraganglioma by pathological examination. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for CgA, Syn, NSE and S-100. No evidence of recurrence was detected during follow-up at 3 months and 3 years. Conclusions Paraganglioma of urinary bladder should be considered as a low grade malignancy. Partial cystectomy should be recommended. The diagnosis depends on clinical symptoms, pathological and immunohistochemical results.

5. Macrophages can regulate bone homeostasis and erythropoiesis: Problems and prospects
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2020;24(18):2926-2931
BACKGROUND: Regulation of erythropoiesis in the bone marrow microenvironment is a carefully orchestrated process dependent upon systemic and local cues. Systemic erythropoietin production by renal interstitial cells plays a critical role in maintaining erythropoietic homeostasis. Increasing evidences have shown that erythropoietin and erythropoiesis can alter skeletal homeostasis, suggesting a functional relationship between the regulation of erythropoiesis and bone homeostasis. In recent years, macrophages play a regulatory role in erythropoietin, bone homeostasis and erythropoiesis. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the research advance concerning the role of macrophages in erythropoiesis and bone homeostasis. METHODS: PubMed, Medline, Web of Science, Wanfang and CNKI databases were retrieved with the keywords of “erythropoiesis, macrophage, erythropoietin, bone formation, bone homeostasis” in English and Chinese, respectively for relevant articles published from January 1999 to October 2019. Finally 48 articles eligible for inclusion and exclusion criteria were included for further analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: As key local components of the bone marrow microenvironment and erythropoietic niche, macrophage subsets play important roles in both processes. Peritoneum macrophages, glial macrophages and liver resident macrophages promote the production of erythropoietin in renal interstitium. Bone marrow macrophages or osteoma, osteoclasts and central macrophages regulate bone homeostasis, and further promote erythropoiesis.

Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2020;33(5):487-492
ObjectiveIt is very important to monitor the disease activity and complications of patients in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this paper, we evaluated the level of platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) of peripheral blood in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and discussed the relationship between PLR and the system involvement, laboratory indexes, and disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.MethodsFrom September 2013 to May 2017, 123 patients with rheumatoid arthritis who were first diagnosed in the General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command were analyzed retrospectively. 123 healthy persons(healthy control group) and 123 patients with other autoimmune diseases(disease control group) were matched according to the sex and age in a ratio of 1:1. According to the disease activity score 28 joints C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP), RA patients were divided into the high activity group and the low activity group, and the PLR levels of high-activity and low-activity patients, healthy control group and disease control group were compared, respectively. To evaluate the relationship between system involvement and PLR level in RA patients; to analyze the correlation between PLR and DAS28-CRP and traditional inflammatory indexes by Spearman; to evaluate the application effect of receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC) in the diagnosis of RA and the differentiation of disease activity of RA patients.ResultsThe PLR level of RA patients was significantly higher than that of healthy people [133.63 (103.17, 140.99)] and disease control group [159.83(104.22, 203.55)], and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01); the PLR level of RA patients in the high activity group was significantly higher than that in the low activity group [200.00 (150.00, 264.50) vs 137.00 (116.50, 183.25),P<0.01]; the level of PLR in RA group with circulatory system involvement and infectious diseases were significantly higher than that in the none group [198.91 (139.99, 261.18) vs 146.26 (117.61, 185.71),P<0.01; 219.28 (176.54, 468.17) vs 171.90 (127.39, 247.21), P<0.05]. The PLR level of RA patients with rheumatoid factor (RF) positive group was significantly higher than that of RF negative group [189.77 (147.18, 252.20) vs 142.35 (115.17, 231.96), P<0.05]. However, there was no statistically significant difference in PLR levels between the positive and negative groups of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (A-CCP) [181.92 (139.03, 250.13) vs 149.16 (114.94, 248.66), P>0.05]. There was a significant positive correlation between PLR and DAS28 CRP, C-reactive protein (CRP), ESR (r=0.433, 0.501, 0.592, P all <0.01). The AUC of PLR in diagnosing RA and evaluating RA was 0.68 and 0.73 respectively. When cut off value was 134.47 and 147.61 respectively, sensitivity was 74.8% and 77.5%, specificity was 56.5% and 63.2%.ConclusionThe level of PLR of peripheral blood in patients with RA is increased, especially in patients with circulatory system involvement, infectious diseases or RF positive, and related to disease activity. PLR is expected to be an effective supplement for RA disease diagnosis and disease activity assessment and has potential application value.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2023;41(5):568-572
OBJECTIVES:
This study aimed to remove occlusal veneers of varied thicknesses and compositions by Er:Yag laser in vitro and analyze the interfacial microstructure between veneers and tooth that irradiated by laser, by which experimental evidence could be provided to support the non-invasive removal of occlusal veneerby laser.
METHODS:
Fresh mandibular premolars extracted for orthodontic requirements were collected for tooth preparation. Three kinds of ceramic materials (Vita Suprinity, Vita Mark Ⅱ, and Upcera Hyramic) were selected to fabricate occlusal veneer with different thicknesses (1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm). One week later, Er:Yag laser (2.5 W and 3.5 W) was used to irradiate and remove the occlusal veneer and recorded the timespan. After the removal operation, the micro-morphologies of samples were examined by scanning electron microscope.
RESULTS:
Upcera Hyramic veneer failed to be removed (>20 min); the operation span at 2.5 W, Vita Suprinity (96.0 s±16.0 s) was longer than Vita MarkⅡ(84.5 s±19.5 s) in the 1.0 mm group (P<0.05), and Vita Suprinity (246.5 s±13.5 s) was longer than Vita MarkⅡ(170.0 s±14.0 s) in the 1.5 mm group (P<0.05). At 3.5 W, Vita Suprinity (381.0 s±24.0 s) was longer than Vita MarkⅡ(341.5 s±26.5 s) in the 2.0 mm group.
CONCLUSIONS
Increasing laser power could shorten the operation span and facilitate the removal of occlusal veneers with the same thickness and composition. The occlusal veneer was sustained when insufficient laser power was applied. With the same laser power and ceramic thickness, laser penetration could interfere with the integral of the ceramic structure when the laser interacted with the bonding layer. With the same ceramic composition and laser power, the operation span and laser power increased with the thickness of the occlusal veneer. However, the laser was incapable of removing occlusal resin veneer directly.
