BACKGROUND: Poly (lactic-co-glycolic-acid) (PLGA)/nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) composite microspheres may continuously release drug in phosphate buffer solution in vitro.OBJECTIVE: To prepare 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu)-loaded PLGA/nHA microspheres, and research the effect of nHA on drug loading, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro release.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: An in vitro materials observation was performed at Laboratory of College of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology between February and July 2009.MATERIALS: PLGA was provided by Jinan Daigang Biomaterial Co., Ltd.; nHA by Key Lab for Special Functional Materials,Ministry of Education; 5-Fu by Shanghai Kaiyang Biomaterial Co., Ltd.METHODS: 5-Fu, a water-soluble anti-cancer drug, was used as model drug, and was firstly adsorbed by nHA and coated with biodegradable and blocompatible materials of PLGA so as to prepare PLGA/nHA-5-Fu composite microspheres by a single-emulsion solvent evaporation method (S/O/W). nHA and drug-loaded nHA were analyzed by transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Drug loading and encapsulation efficiency as well as in vitro release of microspheres were studied with SEM, laser particle size analyzer, and UV-spectrophotometer.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Interaction between nHA and 5-Fu; drug loading, encapsulation efficiency, and in vitro release of Microspheres RESULTS: FTIR showed that nHA had a strong adsorption with 5-Fu. Drug loading and encapsulation efficiency of PLGA/nHA-5-Fu composite microspheres were 3.83% and 86.78%, respectively, which were significantly greater than PLGA-5-Fu microspheres. After initial burst, composite microspheres released more slowly than PLGA microspheres alone. At day 27, the cumulative release rate of composite microspheres and PLGA microspheres alone were 84.87% and 99.87%,respectively.CONCLUSION: Because nHA has a strong adsorption with 5-Fu, PLGA/nHA-5-Fu composite microspheres compared to PLGA-5-Fu microspheres alone enhances drug loading and encapsulation efficiency, and has a better drug delivery effect.

Objective:To explore the relationship of negative life events,parent-child relationship,teacher-child relationship with the altruistic prosocial behaviors in migrant and unattended primary school children. Methods:Totally 1198 migrant children and 1631 unattended children were recruited. The dimension ofaltruistic prosocial behaviorof Child and Adolescent Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire (CAPBQ-A)was used to evaluate altruistic prosocial behaviors,Life Event Questionnaire (LEQ)was used to evaluate negative life events, parent trust and support dimensionof Social Psychological Relationship Questionnaire(SPRQ-P)to evaluate par-ent-child relationship, and teacher trust and support dimension (SPRQ-T ) to evaluate teacher-child relationship. Results:The CAPBQ-A scores were higher in migrant children than in the unattended children (P<0. 001). Being migrant or unattended children (β=-0. 07),LEQ score (β=-0. 04),SPRQ-P score (β=0. 13) and SPRQ-T score (β=0. 31 )predicted the CAPBQ-A score significantly. The SPRQ-P score had significantly stronger predictive effect on the migrant children compared to the unattended children (β=-0. 06 ). Yet the SPRQ-T score predicted the unattended children stronger (β=0. 06 ,Ps<0. 0 1 ). Conclusion:The unattended children's al-truistic prosocial behaviors are much worse than the migrant children. Personal relationships seem to play a more important role than negative life events in shaping children's altruistic prosocial behaviors. Moreover, the parent-child relationship seems to be more important to the migrant children, whereas the teacher-child relationship is more important to the unattended children.

Chinese Journal of Traumatology 2005;8(2):91-95
OBJECTIVETo investigate a new method to construct tissue-engineering bone that will be applicable clinically.
METHODSThe cultured 5th generation rabbit bone marrow stroma osteoblasts (MSO) was dissolved in 3% sodium alginate solution (the final concentration of sodium alginate in the solution being 1%, and MSO, 5x10(6)/L), and then inoculated into prepared true bone ceramic (TBC) and gelatinized the bone by dribbling with calcium gluconate. The standard bone defect models were made in 48 adult New Zealand rabbit's both radius. Among the 48 rabbits, 24 were in Groups A and B, in which the left radius was implanted with gelatinized MSO-TBC (Group A) and right radius implanted with autograft-bone (Group B); and the other 24 were in control group whose left radius was implanted with non-gelatinized MSO-TBC (Group C) and right radius implanted with gelatinized TBC (Group D). Outcomes of the implanted bones were assessed by radiology, pathological histology, osteogenetic quantitative analysis, and biomechanics at 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks postoperatively.
RESULTSIn Groups A and B, a satisfactory bone reparation and bony union was noted within 12 weeks. In Groups C and D, bone reparation was not satisfied compared with Group A in terms of ostogenetic quantity and biomechanics.
CONCLUSIONSGelatinized MSO-TBC is an ideal artificial active bone that overcomes TBC shortcomings of fragileness and smooth surface that is not eligible for seed cell's adhesion. It is promising to put into clinical use extensively.
