Objective To improve the diagnosis and treatment of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephri- tis(XGP).Methods The clinical data of 18 cases(5 males and 13 females;mean age,47 years)with XGP were analyzed.Of them,6 had the lesion on the left, and 12 on the right. Before operation,XGP was mis- diagnosed as renal calculus with hydronephrosis in 4 cases, ureteral calculus with severe hydronephrosis in 3 cases, renal tuberculosis in 3 cases and renal carcinoma in 8 cases. Results Of the 18 cases,7 were diag- nosed to have XGP by frozen section during operation and 11 cases had a definite diagnosis by pathological examination after nephrectomy. After a follow-up of 6-124 months,no recurrence was observed in all these 18 cases. Conclusions Preoperative diagnosis of XGP is difficult. This disease is clinically characterized by foam cells in urine smear,low-density value of kidney CT and ineffective antibiotic therapy.Combined a- nalysis of clinical data and improvement of clinical recognition of XGP is the key to avoiding delayed diagno- sis or misdiagnosis of XGP.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical results of initial periodontal therapy on chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease.
METHODSThirty-two chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease were included in this prospective study. All subjects received oral hygiene instruction, scaling and root planing and clinically monitored for 3 months. The clinical parameters, including plaque index (PLI), probing depth (PD), attachment loss (AL) and bleeding index (BI), were recorded at baseline and 3 months after treatment. Serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), cholesterol (CHO), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and glucose (GLU) were also measured.
RESULTSAt 3 months after initial periodontal therapy, the mean PD of patients reduced from (3.95 +/- 0.15) mm to (2.93 +/- 0.21) mm (P < 0.01), the mean AL from (3.08 +/- 0.43) mm to (2.43 +/- 0.37) mm (P < 0.01), the percentage of sites with PD > or =5 mm from (22.37 +/- 6.88)% to (3.00 +/- 1.80)% (P < 0.01). hs-CRP significantly decreased at 3 months after treatment compared with baseline [(2.71 +/- 2.69) mg/L vs. (1.99 +/- 2.14) mg/L, P < 0.05]. CHO,TG, HDL, LDL and GLU decreased slightly (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSInitial periodontal therapy is effective for chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease. After initial periodontal therapy, periodontal parameters improved significantly and serum levels of hs-CRP decreased.

Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) offer a non-selective and receptor-independent mode to promote cellular uptake. Although the non-specificity of CPP-mediated internalization allows this approach applicable to a wide range of tumor types potentially, their universality is a significant obstacle to their clinical utility for targeted delivery of cancer therapeutics and imaging agents. Accordingly, many reports have focused on selective switching of systemically delivered inert CPPs into their active form in lesions (tumor). In this review, our attention is mainly confined to such an enzyme-sensitive domain incorporated delivery system with activatable CPPs (ACPPs), which have displayed the exciting strength in balancing the CPPs' pros and cons, and potential in the treatment and diagnosis of some diseases.

Using two-kidney one-clip renal hypertensive (2K1C group), stress-induced hypertensive (neural group), DOCA-salt treated hypertensive (DOCA group) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR group), to investigate the change in AT(1A)-receptor autoantibodies (AT(1A)-AAs) during the development of the four types of hypertension. The biological activities of AT(1A)-AAs were examined. It was shown that the frequency of occurrence and titres of AT(1A)-AAs increased significantly during the development of hypertension. In the four hypertensive groups studied, the occurrence of AT(1A)-AAs was most prominent in SHR, 2K1C and neural groups. The biological effects of AT(1A)-AAs were shown to increase the beating frequency of cultured neonatal myocardial and vascular contractile tension. It is suggested that autoimmune mechanisms are involved the pathogenesis of different types of hypertension and the AT(1A)-AAs may be one of the mechanisms leading to cardiac hypertrophy.

The fermentative H2-producing strain Clostridium sp. H-61 was isolated from anaerobic sludge, was used as an original strain which was induced by NTG and UV for increasing and the hydrogen production ability. One of the highest efficient H2-producing mutants was named as HCM-23 with its stable hydrogen production ability. which was measured in the batch culture experiments. With the condition of 10 g/L glucose, its cumulative hydrogen yield and hydrogen production rate was 3024 mL/L and 33.19 mmol H2/g DW?h,69.89% and 68.14% higher than that of the original strain, respectively. The terminal liquid product compositions showed that the mutant HCM-23 fermentation was ethanol type, while the original strain H-61 fermentation was butyric acid type. Varieties of parameters of hydrogen production fermentation studied, including time, carbon source, nitrogen source, glucose concentration, glucose utilization, initial pH and incubation temperature had been studied, indicated the optimum condition of hydrogen production for the mutantHCM-23 as initial pH 6.5,temperature 36 ℃,and the favorite substrate was sucrose. The hydrogen production characters of the mutant and the original strain were different, such as,the growth lag phase and the utilization of inorganic nitrogen source, etc. This work shows a good application potential of NTG-UV combined mutation in the biohydrogen production. And the hydrogen production mechanism and metabolic pathway should be explored furthermore.

Journal of Forensic Medicine 2015;31(2):81-84
OBJECTIVE:
In order to understand which kind of function genes play an important role for estimating wound age, the variation of difference genes' mRNA expression were compared after injury.
METHODS:
The mRNA expression levels of seven candidate genes (ICAM-1, NF-κB, MX2, MT1, MT2, sTnI, and Cox6c) were analyzed in contused rat skeletal muscle at different time points using real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). The raw Ct values were normalized relative to that of RPL32 mRNA, and converted to standard Ct values. At each time point after injury, the standard deviations (SD) of the standard Ct values were calculated by SPSS.
RESULTS:
The expression trends of the seven genes were all found to be related to wound age, but there were lower variation coefficients and greater reliability of s TnI and Cox6c when compared with other genes.
CONCLUSION
The genes encoding structural proteins or proteins that perform basic functions can be suitable for wound age estimation.
