Objective To investigate the effects of dynamic standing bed training on the functional recovery of hemiplegic patients. Methods Sixty hemiplegic patients with Barthel index score of 40 were randomized into a standing rehabilitation group and a control group. The patients in standing rehabilitation group were asked to take part in dynamic standing bed training in addition to drug treatment. Those in the control group were treated with medication only. After 1 to 2 weeks of treatment, the weight-bearing ability of the lower limbs, balance, muscle tone, trunk control and the cardiovascular response were evaluated and compared with those before the treatment. Results The scores of weight-bearing, balance, muscle tone and trunk control of the patients in the standing rehabilitation group were better improved than those in the control group. The changes of blood pressure and pulse of patients were reduced and within the range of safety after 2 weeks of training. Conclusion Dynamic standing bed training is beneficial for the functional recovery of hemiplegic patients. It is safe for the patients in terms of cardiovascular response.

Objective To investigate the effects of Thomas solution in combination with nitroglycerine of different concentrations on rat cardiac preservation for 8 h. Methods Thirty Wistar rats were selected, and Langendorff heart perfusion models were established.Rats were randomly divided into Thomas solution group,Thomas solution+4?10-6 mol/L nitroglycerine group and Thomas solution+4?10-5 mol/L nitroglycerine group(n=10).After hypothermic preservation(4 ℃)for 8 h,the cardiac function of each group was determined.Tissues of left ventricular wall were obtained, and changes of myocardial ultrastructure were observed by electron microscopy. Results Compared with Thomas solution group, the cardiac function was significantly improved and the myocardial ultrastructure injury was less severe in Thomas solution+4?10-5 mol/L nitroglycerine group after hypothermic preservation(4 ℃)for 8 h,while there was no significant difference in myocardial ultrastructure injury and cardiac function between Thomas solution group and Thomas solution+4?10-6 mol/L nitroglycerine group. Conclusion Thomas solution in combination with 4?10-5 mol/L nitroglycerine can significantly improve the preservation effects for isolated hearts in rats.

Objective To investigate the correlation between the formation of pigmented biliary calculus and biliary H.pylori infection. Methods Bile from 35 patients with pigmented biliary calculus and 10 healthy controls was cultured for aerobic, anaerobic and H.pylori.The expression of H.pylori- DNA in bile, bile duct mucosa and pigmented calculus were determined by PCR.The expression of H. pylori associated protein in bile duct mucosa was determined by Western-blot and Warthin-Starry staining. Results H.pylori culture was negative in all bile samples. In 35 patients with biliary pigmen- ted calculus,H.pylori was detected by PCR in the center of calculus, bile and bile duct mucosa of 14.29%,31.43% and 56.67% patients, respectively.Among H.pylori-DNA positive bile samples,7 contained anti-CagA antibodies, and 6 contained Vac A.in addition to Vacuolating cytotoxin(35000), glycoprotein(30000),Urase Band Urase A.Bacteria resembling H.pylori by Warthin-Starry stainning were found in 7 of 30(23.33%)bile duct mueosal samples from patients with biliary pigmented calculus. H.pylori-DNA and its associated protein were not detected in all bile and bile duct mucosae samples from the healthy controls. Conclusions The evidence of H.pylori-DNA and its associated protein in biliary system might indicate the role of H.pylori in the formation of biliary pigmented calculus.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of taurine on HK-2 cells exposed to oxalate (Ox) and calcium oxalate monohydrate crystal (COM) in vivo. Methods HK-2 cells,a proximal tubular epithelial cell line, were cultured.Five groups were divided in this study:control group (only HK-2 cells) ; Ox and COM group (HK-2 cells + Ox + COM) ; Taurine group (HK-2 cells + Ox + COM + Taurine) ; Apocynin group (HK-2 cells + Ox + COM + Apocynin) ; Catalase group (HK-2 cells + Ox + COM +Catalase). After 6 hrs,the cultures medias from each group were tested for LDH,H2O2,8-isoprostane,and MCP-1 protein.Cellular expression of MCP-1 mRNA and P47phox mRNA were determined by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. After 24 hrs, cells livability was investigated by MTT.Results Compared with the control, cells livability was reduced when exposed to Ox and COM (P < 0.05),Treatment with Taurine,Apocynin and Catalase significantly increased the cells livability (P < 0.05).Compared with the control, the expression of LDH,H2O2,8-isoprostane,and cellular expression of MCP-1 mRNA and P47phox mRNA were increased following exposure to Ox and COM (P<0.01,P<0.01,P<0.01,P<0.01,P <0.05).Treatment with Taurine,Apocynin and Catalase significantly reduced the expression of LDH,H2O2,8-isoprostane,as well as the cellular expression of MCP-1 mRNA.Expression of P47phox mRNA in Taurine group was not reduced significantly (P > 0.05).Conclusions This study showed that Taurine protected the HK-2 cells from oxidative injury exposed to Ox and COM by the pathway that may not be in relation to the inhibition of P47phox mRNA expression.
