AIM: To study the role of NOS2 in the devel op ment of cardiac dysfunction after rat myocardial infarction by observing effects of S-methylisothiourea (SMT) on left ventricular morphology and haemodynamics. METHODS: An selective NOS2 inhibitor, was used. Administration o f SMT by gavage began 30 min before coronary ligation. Six weeks later, left ventricular morphologic and haemodynamic parameters were o bserved, and NOS2 expression, plasma NO 2-/NO 3- level and myocardial fibr osis were studied. RESULTS: Six weeks after myocardial infarction, NOS2 level in ra t non-infarct cardiac muscle, plasma NO 2-/NO 3- level, CVP and LVEDP were higher than that in controls. Long term administration of SMT decreased plasma NO 2-/NO 3- level [(26.6?6.1) ?mol/L vs (50.1?10.4) ?mol/L, P

In order to investigate the genetic basis of morphological variation of tetraploid plantlets of Atractylodes macrocephala, diploid plantlets were taken as experimental material, sterile filtration colchicine was used to soak 0.5-1.0 cm long buds. The difference between morphology and stomatal of diploid and tetraploid of A. macrocephala was compared, and genome polymorphism was explored by AFLP. The results showed that the buds dipped in 0.1% colchicine solution for 36 h was optimal conditions to induce tetraploid of A. macrocephala with induction rate of 32.0%. Morphological indexes such as leaf area index, leaf length and width, the density of stomas and the number of chloroplast of tetraploid were distinctly different from diploid. Four hundred and fifty-one bands ranging with 80-500 bp were amplified with 24 pairs of primers, the rate of polymorphism was 32.59%. These amplification sites of diploid were different from tetraploid of A. macrocephala, and the differences in morphology of them were reflected in the DNA polymorphism.

10. Research advances of Gal-3 in renal fibrosis
Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2019;44(8):706-711
Chronic kidney disease(CKD) has become a global public health problem, deterioration of the disease to end-stage renal disease(ESRD) will bring heavy burdens to individuals, families and society. The essence of CKD is occurrence and development of renal fibrosis led by continuous stimulation of chronic inflammation. Galectin-3(Gal-3) is a multifunctional protein, which can not only regulate the activation of macrophages in inflammatory response, produce cytokines such as transforming growth factor(TGF)-β, promote the occurrence of renal fibrosis, but also regulate the expression of collagen in the process of tissue remodeling, promote renal fibrosis, and play an irreplaceable role in inflammation and fibrosis. Both modified citrus fructose(MCP) and GCS-100 are Gal-3 inhibitors, which can alleviate renal injury to a certain extent and are potential targets for anti-renal fibrosis therapy. However, Gal-3 has been shown to have a protective effect on the kidney. In the early stage of chronic renal injury, the anti-apoptosis effect of Gal-3 can protect glomeruli and tubules from chronic injury. The present paper mainly reviews the role of Gal 3 in renal fibrosis.
