Breast tumors are the most common tumors of epithelial origin. Some tumors or tumor-like lesions of the breast may display a morphology similar to mesenchymal tumors predominated by spindle cells. However, such morphology is apt to be confused with others due to lack of the characteristic histopathology. This paper reviews some spindle cell lions in the breast, in an attempt to provide theoretical evidences for the differentiation diagnosis of breast tumors and tumor-like lions.

Magnetic resonance (MR) images can be used to detect lesions in the brains of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). An automatic method is presented for segmentation of MS lesions using multispectral MR images in this paper. Firstly, a Pd-w image is subtracted from its corresponding T1-w images to get an image in which the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) is enhanced. Secondly, based on kernel fuzzy c-means clustering (KFCM) algorithm, the enhanced image and the corresponding T2-w image are segmented respectively to extract the CSF region and the CSF-MS lesions combinatoin region. A raw MS lesions image is obtained by subtracting the CSF region from CSF-MS region. Thirdly, based on applying median filter and thresholding to the raw image, the MS lesions were detected finally. Results were tested on BrainWeb images and evaluated with Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), sensitivity (Sens), specificity (Spec) and accuracy (Acc). The testing results were satisfactory.

Objective To investigate the curative effect of Quadrant channel transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(TLIF) in the treatment of recurrent lumbar disc herniation(RLDH).Methods Seventy-six cases patients with RLDH were divided into traditional TLIF group(36 cases) and Quadrant group(40 cases) by the different operation modes.The operation,VAS scores and ODI scores were compared between the two groups.Results Operation time((98.2±18.1) min vs.(118.5±27.2) min,t=3.79,P<0.05),incision length((2.7±0.6) cm vs.(5.5±1.0) cm,t=14.97,P<0.05),intraoperative blood loss((90.7±20.1) ml vs.(170.3±33.5) ml,t=12.71,P<0.05) and intraoperative drainage((43.8±12.4) ml vs.(117.1±28.9) ml,t=14.62,P<0.05) in Quadrant group were less than that in traditional TLIF group.The ambulation time((2.8±0.6) d vs.(6.8±1.1) d,t=19.95.P<0.05) and hospitalization time((7.1±2.0) d vs.(14.2±2.7) d,t=13.11,P<0.05) of Quadrant group were shorter than those of TLIF group.VAS scores in both groups were significantly decreased.VAS in Quadrant group was significantly lower than that in traditional TLIF group from 3 d to 6 months after operation((4.4±1.0,3.9±1.2,3.4±0.8,1.9±0.6,1.3±0.4) points vs.(5.0±1.4,4.5±1.1,4.1±0.9,3.6±0.7,2.5±0.6) points,P<0.05).ODI scores in both groups were significantly decreased.ODI in Quadrant group was significantly lower than that in traditional TLIF group from 1 d to 6 months after operation((36.7±7.1,33.4±6.2,30.7±4.1,27.8±5.3,24.5±5.4,18.4±4.7) points vs.(39.8±6.0,36.8±5.8,33.5±6.6,31.3±5.1,28.9±6.6,22.3±5.2) points,P<0.05).Conclusion The treatment of RLDH by Quadrant channel TLIF has obvious curative effect,short operation time,less trauma,faster recovery and shorter hospital stay.

Objective To study the relationship between expression of G-protein-coupled bile acid receptor 1 (GPBAR1) in gallbladder mucosa and formation of lithogenic bile in patients with gallstones.Methods Gallbladder mucosa,gallbladder wall,bile and plasma were collected from 34 patients with gallstone (GS) and 15 individuals who were gallstone free (GSF).The gallbladder wall was stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and immunohistochemistry to detect pathologic changes and expressions of GPBAR1,mucin 1 (MUC1) and mucin 5AC (MUC5AC).Reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to test mRNA expressions of GPBAR1,MUC1 and MUC5AC in the gallbladder mucosa.The contents of total cholesterol (TC),total bile acid (TBA),triglyceride (TG),low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma and cholesterol,TBA,phospholipid (PL) and mucin in the bile of gallbladder were measured.Results The gallbladder mucosa in all GS patients showed chronic inflammation on hematoxylin-eosin staining.The expressions of GPBAR1 and MUC5AC were more markedly increased in the GS group than in the GSFgroup (61.34±8.06 vs.43.05±7.83,P＜0.01; 52.11±9.62 vs.45.05±9.27,P＜0.05).The mRNA expressions of GPBAR1 and MUC5AC in the GS group were also more markedly increased than in the GSR group (0.87±0.07 vs.0.80±0.09,P＜0.05; 1.04±0.22 vs.0.8±0.17,P＜0.01).Serum cholesterol,as well as biliary cholesterol,cholesterol mol percentage,cholesterol saturation index and mucin in the GS group were more significantly higher than in the GSF group (5.07±1.64 vs.3.62±1.42,P＜0.01; 17.23±3.67 vs.12.47±2.31,P＜0.01; 7.47±0.65 vs.5.05±0.24,P＜0.01; 1.03±0.58 vs.0.69±0.38,P＜0.01; 92.02±20.89 vs.76.36±19.71,P＜0.05).Biliary total bile acids and bile acids mol percentage were lower in the GS group than in the GSF group (162.68±20.19 vs.180.21±26.05,P＜0.05; 71.28±1.84 vs. 73.29±0.96,P＜0.01). In the GS group,there were negative correlations between the mRNA expression of GPBAR1 and biliary TBA (γ=-0.341,P＜0.05).There were negative correlations in the GS group between the GPBAR1 expression and the level of biliary TBA (γ=- 0.403,P＜0.05),and between the GPBAR1 expression and the level of biliary total lipid (γ=-0.365,P＜0.05).Conclusions This study shows an increase in expression of GPBAR1 in gallbladder mucosa in patients with GS.It is suggested that GPBAR1 may accelerate formation of lithogenic bile by inducing re-absorption of bile acid.

ObjectiveTo detect the association between schizophrenia and polymorphism of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 ( PSAT1 ) gene.MethodsThe study group included 158 patients with schizophrenia from Xi' an Mental Health Center and the control group included 316 parents.The polymorphism of rs69287125,rs137824326 of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 gene was detected with PCR methods and SNP typing in all nucleus families by correlation analysis and haplotype relative risk analysis.ResultsThe rs69287125 allele was associated with schizophrenia (P=0.011 ),the G allele was protective factor (Z =-2.31 ) and the A allele was hazarding factor (Z =2.31 ).The rs137824326 allele was associated with schizophrenia (P=0.007 ),the G allele was protective factor ( Z =- 2.54) and the A allele was the hazarding factor( Z =2.54).The haplotypes of A/A and G/G in the rs69287125-rs137824326 were associated with schizophrenia (P =0.021,0.015,Z =2.16,- 1.85).ConclusionThe polymorphism of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 gene is associated with schizophrenia in Chinese.
