1.Bone graft fusion fixation for single-segment thoracic/lumbar spinal tuberculosis:effective reconstruction of spinal stabilization and deformity correction

BACKGROUND:On the basis of thorough debridement, homochronous anterior or staging posterior fixation has been a standard scheme for spinal tuberculosis. Numerous studies confirmed that above approach has obtained good effects, but the anterior approach has some disadvantages, such as complex anatomic structure, great trauma, relatively more complications, and difficult operation and fixator implantation. OBJECTIVE:To observe spinal stabilization and deformity correction in patients with single-segment thoracic/lumbar spinal tuberculosis after posterior debridement and interbody fusion. METHODS:Clinical data of 36 patients with single-segment thoracic/lumbar spinal tuberculosis undergoing one-stage posterior debridement and interbody fusion in the Guangxi Yulin Orthopedics Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from January 2008 to January 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 2 cases in single T11/12 segment, 4 in T12/L1 segments, 6 in L3/4 segments, 22 in L4/5segments and 2 in L5/S1 segments. Of them, 24 patients suffered from different degrees of spinal nerve injury. At 6, 12 and 24 months after surgery, al patients were folowed up. Bone graft fusion, kyphosis correction, functional recovery of the spinal cord and complications were observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Al patients were folowed up for 24-38 months. Cobb angle of kyphosis and spinal stenosis rate were significantly improved at 2 years after treatment (P < 0.05). The lumbar back pain symptoms were significantly improved in final folow-up (P < 0.05), with an intervertebral fusion rate of 100%. No lesion residue and recurrence, correction loss, fixation loosening or displacement was found. These results demonstrated that in patients with single-segment thoracic/lumbar spinal tuberculosis, posterior debridement and interbody fusion can effectively reconstruct spinal stabilization, correct deformity, and promote the functional recovery of spinal nerves.
2.Study on interventional ultrasonic thrombus ablation technique.

Ultrasonic thrombus ablation is a newly-developed technology for percutaneous arterial recanalization. An ultrasound angioplasty device is described here in detail. The device has an adjustable power output range and distal tip longitudinal displacement range. Experimental data suggest that this ultrasound device is significantly effective in ablating fresh thrombi.

3.Clinical effect of staged repair and reconstruction of multiple ligament injuries in knee joints.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction under arthroscopy combined with limited open repair of medial collateral ligament (MCL) for the treatment of multiple ligament injuries of knee joints.
METHODSFrom March 2006 and June 2012,the data of 14 patients (14 knees) with multiple injuries of ACL, PCL, and MCL were collected. There were 8 males and 6 females with an average age of (31.8 +/- 8.1) years old (ranged, 20 to 49 years old). All the patients were performed with X-ray and MRI examination, and the results showed that 10 patients had combined with injuries of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL); 4 patients had ALC,PCL and posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries. Four patients had medial meniscus injuries and 2 patients had lateral meniscus injuries. The MCL,PLC and meniscus injuries were treated with operation on the first stage, and functional exercises were performed 3 weeks after fixation. The reconstruction operation of ACL and (or) PCL was performed at the second stage under arthroscopy 3 to 6 months later when the movement range of knee joint recovered to the normal level with obvious relaxation.
RESULTSAll incisions healed by primary intention. All the patients were followed up with a mean duration of 48.9 months (ranged, 24 to 80 months). The Lysholm score was improved from preoperative 19.6 +/- 0.9 to the latest follow-up 87.1 +/- 2.8 (t=12.3, P<0.01). The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) rating: 9 cases nearly recovered to normal, 5 cases were abnormal.
CONCLUSIONFor multiple ligament injuries in the knee, staged repair and reconstruction can effectively restore knee joint stability and function.

4.Effects of sin-1 on growth and cytoskeleton of endothelial cells in vitro

Objective To investigate the mechanism affecting on permeability of vascular endothelial cell by nitric oxide (NO). Methods Series concentration of sin-1(a donor of NO) were added to ECV 304, a cell line of human umbilical vein endothelium. Cell growth and expression of f-actin, a cytoskeleton protein were observed. Results Cell growth was inhibited with a dose from 6.25 to 100 μmol/L and was caused to death at the concentration of 50 to 100 μmol/L by sin-1. The expression of f-actin was suppressed obviously after cultured with 100 μmol/L sin-1 for 4 hours. Conclusion It suggests that anomaly increased NO can increase permeability of blood vessels by suppressing the expression of f-actin, inhibiting cell growth or even resulting in cell death.
5.Type 2 Iodothyronine Deiodinase Activity and Expressions of MBP and Synapsin I in Brain of Young Rats with Iodine Deficiency and Excess

Objective To study the activity of type 2 Iodothyronine deiodinase(D2)and the expressions of myelin basic protein(MBP)and synapsinⅠin the brain tissue of young rats fed on a diet with different levels of iodine.Methods Wistar rats were fed on a diet with different doses of KIO_3 for 3 months and then mated randomly.The serum TH and the brain D2 activity were measured in 28 days old pups.The protein expressions of MBP and SynapsinⅠin their brains were determined by immunohistochemistry staining.Results Compared with normal iodine group(NI),the serum TH levels of low iodine group(LI) were lower,while those of iodine excess groups were gradually decreased with their increase of iodine intake,especially in 100-fold high iodine group(100 HI),TT_4 and FT_4 were significantly decreased(P0.05).The immunohistochemistry staining showed weakly positive reactivity of MBP in corpus callosum and stronger of synapsin I in hippocampus CA3 in LI group compared with NI. The similar alterations were also found in all iodine excess groups with their increase of iodine intake.But MBP reactivity was stronger in 100 HI rats than the LI ones.Conclusion Iodine deficiency and iodine excess can cause hypothyroidism in degrees in the young rats,more severe hypothyroid and retarded myelin sheath and synapses can be caused in iodine deficiency compared with iodine excess.

Objective To explore the correlation of city school-aged children′s intelligence quotients(IQ) with family factors.Methods Picking up 180 healthy children which aged 10-14 and their parents.Children′s IQ were tested with Wechsler intelligence Scale for Children- Revised(WISC-R).Their parents were investigated by using the questionnaire designed by ourselves about some factors of family which includes Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ), Home Education Index Measuring Scale (HEIMS),and so on. The provenances of Rongshui miniature pigs ( RMPs) were purchased from Rongshui, Guangxi, in 2012.130 RMPs were transported to Sanshui, Guangdong,China, which were breed according to the laboratory animal standards.83 RMPs were selected randomly from the first filial generations ( F1 ).The basic data were collected including breed characteristics, reproductive performance, grow curve, hematology, biochemical markers of serum and urine, organ coefficient, Chromosome analysis.According to the national and local standards, the quality control standards of RMP were set up including microbiological, parasitic, environment and facilities, fodder, pathology, genetic.The results showed that RMPs adapt to the climate of Guangdong.The natural mating and conceive rate was 88.3% with the pregnancy of 112 days.The average number of firstborn and still-born was 6.1 and 7.9 respectively.RMP was small body size with the adult body weight of 17.21 ±5.20 kg and 16.35 ±5.23 kg in female and male respectively.RMP was very tame.The mitochondrial genome analysis suggested RMP belonged a typical miniature pig breed in China, which is ancient than Lanyu pig.RMP could be breed as a new kind of laboratory animal.
8.SNaPshot technique for detection of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in HBV polymerase gene region of HBV gene.

OBJECTIVETo establish a rapid specific method to identify the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of HBV polymerase gene region which are the methionine residue of the conserved YMDD motif.
METHODSTwo specific primers were designed to amplify interested gene region involved in SNPs which were also used as HBV DNA identification. Specific primers of SNaPshot were designed to detect 741A-G (YVDD), 743G-T (YIDD). The different fluorescent dye labeled ddNTP was used to further extend the strand of PCR product and was detected by ABI PRISM 310 Genetic Analyzer. Sera from 13 patients with chronic hepatitis B after lamivudine treatment were analyzed.
RESULTSAside from mutation of YMDD, there were mutations of 514C-A, 523C-A, 562T-A, 667C-A. The 13 samples were simultaneously tested with SNaPshot and DNA sequencing, the same results were obtained. The method of SNaPshot showed high specificity.
CONCLUSIONMutation of YMDD results in the changes of ATG codon, and there are new ATG codon in the upper strand of YMDD. SNaPshot technique is rapid, specific and accurate for the SNPs monitoring of HBV DNA mutation during lamivudine therapy. Two samples were determined by SnaPshot technique, identifying the co-existence of the mixed wild type and mutant type HBV infection.

9.The application of partial 3D reconstruction for the maxillofacial tumor resection with one-stage reconstruction.

OBJECTIVETo introduce a novel digital surgery technique based on partial reconstruction of skull and its application in tumor resection and on-sport reconstruction surgery.
METHODSThe partial 3d reconstruction according to CT scanning data was obtained to get 3d model of both tumor and normal skull, then to define the resection area on tumor data through people-computer interaction process, do reconstruction the simulation on the remained model, pre-fabricate the cutting template and custom the implant. The resection template to confirm the message in surgery simulation can be transferred to real surgery accurately.
RESULTSAll the four cases by using this method showed great consistency of the real and simulated surgery and got a good appearance of reconstruction.
CONCLUSIONSThe surgery simulation technique based on partial 3d reconstruction has great assistance to tumor resection and one-stage reconstruction surgery.

10.Comparative analysis of the relationship between of chronic periodontitis patients' compliance and clinical efficacy

Objective To evaluate the effect of patients' compliance on clinical parameters in patients with chronic periodontitis during periodontal maintenance therapy period.Methods Chronic periodontitis patients who had completed non-surgical periodontal basic treatment were incorporated into the periodontal maintenance therapy(PMT).Clinical examination was performed in the baseline and each quarterly recall,over 3-year period.Clinical parameters including number of teeth,probing depth (PD),attachment loss(AL) level and bleeding on probing(BOP),were recorded.According to the number of PMT visit,the patients were classified into three groups:regular complier (RC) ; erratic complier (EC) ;non-complier(NC).The final parameters (three years later) were obtained by outpatient follow-up and telephone interviews.The data were calculated for the pecentage of sites with PD 4-5 mm,PD ≥ 6 mm,AL 4-5 mm,AL≥ 6 mm,BOP,and the number of tooth loss per patient and the rates of progression of periodontitis.Statistical analyses including ANOVA test and Chi-square test were performed by SPSS 16.0 software package.Results The percentage of clinical parameters in RC [AL 4-5 mm:(14.8 ± 5.0) %,AL≥6 mm:(9.3 ± 3.1)%,BOP:(22.8 ± 4.2)%] were significantly decreased compared with that at baseline[AL4-5 mm:(19.0 ±6.0)%,AL≥6 mm:(10.6±3.1)%,BOP:(30.3 ±5.6)%] (P< 0.01).There was significant difference between RC and NC [AL 4-5mm:(43.3 ± 1.3) %,AL ≥ 6 mm:(31.3±1.7)%,BOP(91.5±5.4)%](P<0.01),and between RC and EC[AL4-5 mm:(18.9± 6.7)%,AL≥6 mm:(12.6±5.4)%,BOP:(38.4± 5.2)%] (P<0.05).The progression rate of periodontitis [19.1% (4/21) at subject level,0.7% (434/61 362) at site level] and tooth loss(1.0) was significantly lower in RC compared with EC and NC patients.Conclusions Regular periodontal maintenance enables the patients with chronic periodontitis to maintain long-term efficacy.
