This study was aimed to evaluate effects of traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) five elements music therapy on the quality of life for both senior and non-senior advanced cancer patients , and improve TCM com-prehensive treatment mode . A total of 170 patients were stratified according to 70-year-old in a randomized controlled trial ( RCT ) with a parallel single-blind design . The ratio of patients among three groups was 2:2:1 . In the experimental group , TCM five elements music was given in the treatment . In the positive control group , western music was used in the treatment . And in the negative control group , no music was given in the treat-ment . The treatment was given for 30 min , 5 times per week . And the observation duration was 3 weeks . The Hospice Quality of Life Index-Revised ( HQOLI-R ) , Karnofsky Performance Scale ( KPS ) and Symptom Diary Score recorded by patients were used in the evaluation . The results showed that when comparing HQOLI-R , KPS and Symptom Diary Score before and after treatment among all advanced cancer patients in each group , there was a significant difference before and after treatment in the TCM five elements music therapy group ( P< 0 . 05 ) . But there was no significant difference before and after treatment in the western music therapy group or the negative control group ( P > 0 . 05 ) . It was concluded that TCM five elements music therapy is effective in improving quality of life and subjective symptoms for both senior and non-senior advanced cancer patients . However , the sensitivity of using the Symptom Diary Score as an evaluation index among senior patients still needs to be further proved .

Objective To evaluate the long-term clinical efficacy and security of levetiracetam (Lev) as add-on therapy in patients with different types of epilepsies from an observational study. Methods Fifty-one patients were evaluated (14 female,37male,age range from 7months to 16 years, mean age 8.7 years) with different types of epilepsies ( 20 complex partial seizure,10 tonic-clonic seizure,1 tonic seizure,6 myoclonic epilepsy,2 Lennox-Gastaut syndrome,4 infantile spasms and 2 unspecified epileptic syndromes). The basis for comparison was defined as the seizure frequency in the 3 months prior to the commencement of treatment.Patients received Lev as add-on therapy. The initial dosage was 20 mg/(kg?d),and it was increased 10 mg/(kg?d) every 2 weeks. The maintenance dosage was 30-40 mg/(kg?d).Seizure frequency changes and adverse events were observed.Follow-up was conducted for a period of 6.8 months after treatment.SPSS 14.0 software was used to compare the difference between the seizure frequency before the Lev treatment and that after the Lev treatment. Results Thirteen (25.5%) out of the 51 patients reduced seizure frequency,16 (31.4%) patients had no reoccurrence; While another 9 (17.6%) patients seizure frequencied were reduced,8 patients' remained the same, and 5 patients' condition was got wor-sened.Six cases ceased treatment because of the worsening of the disease and the intolerance of Lev.The difference and after seizure frequency before in Lev treatment is statistically significant(P

This article provides the possible mechanism of acupuncture-moxibustion repair of gastric mucosal injury from central regulation and puts it forward that the nucleus of solitary tract is the primary regulation center for the injury repair and has the effect of collecting and integrating information. In addition, it is put forward that neural regulation is a main regulatory mechanism for the injury repair and besides, endocrine, immune and humoral regulations participates in the modulation and gastric mucosal repair involves a composite regulatory mechanism in which the central nervous system, neuroendocrine-immune network and neurohumoral regulation take part.

Aim To observe the infarct size, apoptosis of the neurocytes, the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax pro-teins after focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) in the brain tissue of rats and the protective effects of rofecoxib. Methods The model of local CIRI was induced by reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) with inserting a thread through internal carotid artery,2 h occlusion followed by 24 h reperfusion.Rofecoxib was administrated (ig) at the reperfusion initiation. Using TTC staining technique to measure the infarct size of brain,TUNEL technique to examine apoptosis of the neurocytes, immunohistochemical method to examine the expression level of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins in brain tissue. Results After focal CIRI,the infarct focus of brain was showed, both apoptosis rate of the neurocytes and Bax protein expression were significantly increased and the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax was significantly reduced. With the use of both 1.12 and 2.24 mg?kg -1 doses of rofecoxib, the brain infarct size was dramatically reduced. With the use of 2.24 mg?kg -1 dose of rofecoxib, both apoptosis rate of the neurocytes and Bax protein expression were significantly decreased, both Bcl-2 protein expression and the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax were significantly higher than that in the group Model. Conclusion The highly selective COX-2 inhibitor rofecoxib may increase Bcl-2 protein expression and decrease Bax protein expression then increase the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax and so reduce the neurocytes apoptosis in brain tissue thus significantly improve the brain injury after CIRI.

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical effect of acupoint application on lipid metabolism in elderly diabetics with hyperlipidemia.Methods60 elder diabetics were divided into two groups. In the drugs group, patients were purely treated with simvastatin or lipanthyl. In the acupoint group, patients received acupoint application. The serum total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), high-density lipeprotein (HDL-C), aPoprotein A(ApoA) and apoprotein B(ApoB) ere measured respectively.Adverse events were observed.ResultsThe levels of TC、TG、LDL-C、ApoB were significantly dechned(all P <0.01 ~0.05).However,the rates of reduce lipid had no significant difference in two groups(P >0.05).The levels of HDL-C and ApoA were increased in the drugs group, but the homologous levels in the acupoint group showed no significantly change(all p > 0.05).The adverse reaction in the acupoint group was significantly lower than that in the drugs group(P <0.05).ConclusionAcupoint application could decrease the blood lipid spectrum in the senile diabetics with hyperlipidemia. This therapeutics could reduce adverse drug reactions.

ObjectiveTo detect the association between schizophrenia and polymorphism of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 ( PSAT1 ) gene.MethodsThe study group included 158 patients with schizophrenia from Xi' an Mental Health Center and the control group included 316 parents. The polymorphism of rs69287125,rs137824326 of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 gene was detected with PCR methods and SNP typing in all nucleus families by correlation analysis and haplotype relative risk analysis.ResultsThe rs69287125 allele was associated with schizophrenia (P=0.011 ),the G allele was protective factor (Z =-2.31 ) and the A allele was hazarding factor (Z =2.31 ).The rs137824326 allele was associated with schizophrenia (P=0.007 ),the G allele was protective factor ( Z =- 2.54) and the A allele was the hazarding factor( Z =2.54).The haplotypes of A/A and G/G in the rs69287125-rs137824326 were associated with schizophrenia (P =0.021,0.015,Z =2.16,- 1.85).ConclusionThe polymorphism of phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 gene is associated with schizophrenia in Chinese.
