Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2010;26(2):307-309
Objective To evaluate the methods for improving diagnostic ratio of unruptured ectopic pregnancy with ultrasonography. Methods A total of 139 patients of small adnexal cysts with thick wall were predicted respectively with sonographic indexes. All patients (61 with unruptured ectopic pregnancy and 78 with small corpusluteum) were confirmed postoperatively or with long-term follow up, and the results were compared. Results The diagnostic sensitivity of with hyperecho or isoecho compared with endometrium, hyperecho compared with ovarian tissue, adnexal cyst without small follicle around was 86.89%, 93.44% and 96.72%, and the specificity of three predictors was 93.59%, 85.90% and 70.51%, respectively. Two sonographic indexes together had a sensitivity of 98.36% and a specificity of 94.87% for diagnosing ectopic pregnancy. Conclusion Observing the relation of adnexal cyst and ovarian and the echogenic of cyst wall are specific and sensitive for the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical results of initial periodontal therapy on chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease.
METHODSThirty-two chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease were included in this prospective study. All subjects received oral hygiene instruction, scaling and root planing and clinically monitored for 3 months. The clinical parameters, including plaque index (PLI), probing depth (PD), attachment loss (AL) and bleeding index (BI), were recorded at baseline and 3 months after treatment. Serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), cholesterol (CHO), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and glucose (GLU) were also measured.
RESULTSAt 3 months after initial periodontal therapy, the mean PD of patients reduced from (3.95 +/- 0.15) mm to (2.93 +/- 0.21) mm (P < 0.01), the mean AL from (3.08 +/- 0.43) mm to (2.43 +/- 0.37) mm (P < 0.01), the percentage of sites with PD > or =5 mm from (22.37 +/- 6.88)% to (3.00 +/- 1.80)% (P < 0.01). hs-CRP significantly decreased at 3 months after treatment compared with baseline [(2.71 +/- 2.69) mg/L vs. (1.99 +/- 2.14) mg/L, P < 0.05]. CHO,TG, HDL, LDL and GLU decreased slightly (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSInitial periodontal therapy is effective for chronic periodontitis patients with stable coronary heart disease. After initial periodontal therapy, periodontal parameters improved significantly and serum levels of hs-CRP decreased.

AIM: The study was designed to explore the autoimmune mechanism of myocardial injury and ventricular remodeling after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: An experimental animal model of AMI was adopted in Wistar rats. After 6 weeks, splenocytes were freshly transferred to syngeneic inbred rats. Four weeks later, these recipient rats were anesthetized for hemodynamics analysis by catheter technique. Serum antibody against cardiac myosin heavy chanin (MHC) was screened by ELISA. Histopathological studies were performed on all hearts. The phenotypes of T lymphocytes in myocardium were analyzed by histocytochemistry stain. RESULTS: Histopathological studies showed the lymphocytes infiltration in non-infarction myocardium in AMI rats and the organ specific inflammation of myocardium in all succedent recipient (AMI-T) rats. Histocytochemistry stain revealed the predominant CD4+T cells infiltration in myocardium. The antibody against MHC was examined in 8/22 cases of AMI rats and AMI-T rats, but none in sham-T rats. The left ventricular dysfunction was found in AMI-T rats, which was characterized by slight decline of ~+dp/dt_~max. CONCLUSIONS: The study showed inflammatory response of non-infarction myocardium in AMI rats and demonstrated the lymphocytes-mediated myocardial injury and cardiac dysfunction by adoptive transfer of splenocytes of AMI rats. The autoimmune-mediated myocardial injury might be a novel mechanism of ventricular remodeling after AMI. [

Background Researchers are paying increasing attention to the effect of cellular senescence in vascular dysfunctional diseases, and it is hypothesized that cellular senescence may also be involved in the development of diabetes related vascular complications. The outstanding feature of cellular senescence is the upregulation of beta-galactosidase.Objective This study was to investigate the effects of high glucose on cell senescent in vitro and in vivo on bovine retinal endothelial cells (BRVECs) and mouse retina. Methods BRVECs were cultured and passaged, and the seventh generation of cells were employed in this study. The cells were divided into the control group and the high glucose culture group and cultivated using M199 medium containing 5.5 mmol/L or 25.0 mmol/L glucose,respectively.5-bromine-chlorine-4-3-indole-beta D galactose glucoside (X-Gal) staining was used to examine the expression of beta-galactosidase in the cells.Diabetic models were established in the SPF male C57BL/6J mice aged 8-10 weeks by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ),and the age-and gendermatched normal mice served as controls. The mouse retinas were collected and starched in the 48-well plates 3 months later.X-Gal staining was employed to calculate the positive cells. Results BRVECs grew well 24 hours after culture but showed irregular arrangement.Forty-eight hours later, the cells reached confluence with a tight connect. The ratios of positive BRVECs and total cells were (51.4±5.4) % and (36.6-±3.8) % in the high glucose culture group and the control group, with a significant difference between the two groups (t =-3.204,P =0.033).The number of positive cells for X-Gal in mouse retinas was (94.0± 15.1) /field in the diabetic group, which was higher than that in the control group ([60.0 ± 5.7]/field) (t =-2.974,P =0.041).Conclusions High glucose environment accelerates senescence of retinal cells, and high glucose induces premature cell senescence, which likely plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.

Objective To investigate the effect of solute cartier organic anion transporter family, member 1B1 (SLCOIBI) gene variants on the response to therapy with repaglinide in type 2 diabetes. Methods 100 newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients were treated with repaglinide during a course of 48 weeks. Anthropometrie parameters and indices related to glucose metabolism were measured periodically. Genotypes of SLCO1B1 D130N and V174A were detected by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and sequencing respectively. Results Eighty-nine patients accomplished the 48-week follow-up visits. D130N variant in SLCO1B1 gene was associated with repaglinide treatment, DD genotype had better HbA1C lowering effect than N allele carrier [△HbA1C: (-2.29±0.23) % vs (-1.49±0.21)%, P<0.05]. No association was detected between D130N and the other effects of repaglinide on glucose metabolism related phenotypes. Conclusion D130N variant in SLCO1B1 gene is associated with the response to repaglinide treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes. DD homozygotes had a better effect than N allele carriers.
