Chinese Medical Journal 2017;(11):1269-1275
Background: Iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS) is an important cause of deep vein thrombosis, but the incidence of IVCS is still unclear. The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the incidence of IVCS in an asymptomatic patient population and to evaluate the risk factors in patients with and without IVCS. Methods: From October 2011 to November 2012, a total of 500 patients (228 women and 272 men; mean age of 55.4 ± 14.7 years) with no vascular?related symptoms were enrolled in this study. Computed tomography was performed to evaluate all patients. The degree of venous compression was calculated as the diameter of the common iliac vein at the site of maximal compression divided by the mean diameter of the uncompressed proximal and caudal left common iliac vein (LCIV). We compared the stenosis rate of the common iliac vein in women and men according to age and followed up patients to evaluate outcomes. Results: The mean compression degree of the LCIV was 16% (4%, 36%); 37.8% of patients had a compression degree ≥25% and 9.8% had a compression degree ≥50%. There was a significant difference between men and women in the LCIV compression degree (9% [3%, 30%] vs. 24% [8%, 42%]; U = 4.66, P < 0.01). In addition, the LCIV compression degree among younger women (≤40 years) was significantly different compared with that in older women (>40 years) (42% [31%, 50%] vs. 19% [5%, 39%]; U = 5.14, P < 0.001). Follow?up was completed in 367 patients with a mean follow?up of 39.5 months (range, 6–56 months). The incidence of IVCS in the follow?up period was 1.6%. Stenosis rate and the diameter of the site of maximal compression correlated with the incidence of IVCS. Multivariable Cox regression analysis showed that the stenosis rate was an independent risk factor of IVCS (Wald χ2 = 8.84, hazard ratio = 1.13, P < 0.001). Conclusions: The incidence of IVCS was low and correlated with the stenosis rate of iliac vein. Preventative therapy may be warranted for common iliac vein compression in patients at an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, especially patients with a higher iliac vein compression degree.

Objective To investigate the effect of transplantation of mouse marrow stromal cells (mMSCs) on Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) transgenic mice through cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) injection. Methods We delivered 5 × 105 mMSCs into SOD1 transgenic mice by single injection to CSF at the age of 8 weeks or by multiple injections at the age of 8,10 and 12 weeks.Neurologic phenotype observation, weight measurement, hanging wire test and motor neuron counts were used to assess disease progression of SOD1 mice. Results Single transplantation of mMSCs didn' t show beneficial effect on SOD1 mice.Compared with vehicle-treated mice,SOD1 transgenic mice with multiple transplantations of mMSCs demonstrated attenuated weight loss, improved motor performance, decreased motor neuron loss, and importantly, prolonged survival by 17 days ((157 ± 15) d vs (140 ± 11) d; x2 =7.56,P < 0.01).Conclusion Intrathecal injection could be an effective route of cell transplantation, and multiple transplantations of mMSCs are needed to achieve the therapeutic effect on SOD1 mice.

Objective To observe the effect of perioperative rehabilitation on anterior spinal cord syndrome caused by cervical hyper-flexion injury. Methods Sixty-nine inpatients with anterior spinal cord syndrome after cervical hyperflexion injury from January, 2012 to De-cember, 2014 were reviewed. 32 cases (group A) accepted systematic rehabilitations and other 37 cases (group B) did not. They were as-sessed with Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores preoperatively and 1-year follow-up. Results All the patients succeeded in the operation. The JOA score improved more 1 year follow-up in group A than group B (t=2.538, P=0.044). Conclusion Systematic rehabilita-tion may work in the management of anterior spinal cord syndrome after cervical hyperflexion injury.
9.A study on the association between preeclampsia and the related screening markers during the first and second trimester
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2015;(12):1213-1216
Objective To explore the association between preeclampsia and the level of related screening markers during the first and second trimester. Methods The concentration of PAPP - A,free β - hCG of the pregnant women in the first trimester(from 10th to 13 + 6 th weeks)were detected. The concentration of AFP,free β - hCG and uE3 were detected by the same method in the second trimester(from 14th to 19 + 6 th weeks). Protein in the urine and blood pressure of the pregnant women was closely monitored during pregnancy, and the late pregnancy outcomes were followed up. The difference of the concentration of PAPP - A,free β - hCG in the first trimester and free β - hCG,AFP,uE3 in the second trimester between women with pregnancy hypertension and those without were analyzed. Results A total of 7 476 women accepted prenatal screening. There were 668 women developed pregnancy hypertension and the incidence rate was 8. 70% . And 260 women developed preeclampsia and the incidence rate was 3. 4% . There were 50 cases of early - onset preeclampsia and 210 cases of late - onset preeclampsia. The concentration of PAPP - A and free β - hCG of preeclampsia women, especially the early - onset preeclampsia women, were lower than those of normal women in the first trimester. In the early pregnancy diagnosis, accuracy of the area of early - onset preeclampsia under the ROC curve was 0. 823. There was no difference of concentration of free β - hCG,AFP,uE3 in the second trimester between women with or without preeclampsia (P > 0. 05). Conclusion The level of PAPP - A has a certain value for diagnosis of early - onset preeclampsia. Serum screening markers in the second trimester showed little clinical value on preeclampsia.
